I first want to start my review by saying that the front desk staff, housekeeping, and amenities were very nice during our week's stay. The room we had had a comfortable bed, microwave, good-sized fridge, desk area, and decent toiletries. They kept the grounds clean, although you have a hard time parking in the lot during the Bar next door “Karaoke night.” They did a good job if you needed anything and housekeeping made sure you had supplies, and, Thurs-Sun, you can go across the street to the Southwest Diner where they set you up for a mini-breakfast. Mon-Wed you’ll get a Snack bag you can pick up at the Desk instead. Some days the Diner charged us for Coffee and a few days no charge, so not sure if the mini Breakfast comes with a drink or Coffee.
Now, for the not-so-good review of our stay. We stayed for a week but planned for two weeks because of the remodeling and lots of construction dust at our house. I still work, so I had to set myself up to WFH in the room so we were there most of the day. Little did we know they were going to be building some kind of Garden area right across from our room (we were in the front part of the hotel.) I think they should have said something about that too before we settled in as there was a lot of banging and sawing going on. When we first arrived there wasn’t much foot traffic upstairs yet, and we knew that staying on the first floor; there would be a little more noise with the parking lot and foot traffic, maid carts, however, we did not realize how thin the walls were and with the non-carpeted floors in all the rooms how our evenings would go. Let me tell you, not so hot. Because we had settled in for many days prior, we didn't want to move rooms with everything we brought in for two weeks as it would have been a huge hassle for us, BUT it may have been worth our sleep if we had done that. This hotel (more like a motel) needs to do something about the super thin walls between rooms. Jeez, when the people next to us were having an intimate moment, well, you can only guess what we heard. Seriously, it was like they were in the next bed over. Just someone coughing all night was not good. Yeah, and that happened too. As mentioned, there is no carpeting on the floors above. They put some laminated wood-look flooring in the rooms with no sound barrier padding so when people walk on these floors and their suitcases being rolled in, it's not good. One night people were checking in after 9:30 pm, and they must have rolled in a dozen suitcases and it was non-stop walking around for two hours. Seriously, when they remodeled, didn't they even think about the people below? The last night before we decided it was the last straw, we were woken up at 5:42 am to pipes making banging sounds when the people upstairs took a shower. We decided to leave that morning and cancel our additional week's stay. We would rather deal with the remodeling dust at our house than deal with this.
Upon leaving, I told them the issues, pipes sounds, etc., and I did ask for one free night for just the pipe issue, but that didn't happen. However, I did get the charge on my credit card for $944. for the week. Definitely not worth the price tag for the room. I am sure the entire staff knows all too well the issues and people complain about the thin walls, floors, etc. It truly is a shame to call this a Best Western because it does not meet the standards and brand they promote with their usual quality. Again, the Front Desk Managers, Staff and Housekeepers deserve a 5-Star, it’s just the hotel needs another overhaul. So, in conclusion if you’re going to put people in these rooms (especially in the front part of this hotel), please give them a set of complimentary earplugs or if you’re a heavy sleeper, no worries. At this point, (now a year later since I’ve written this review) I do hope they worked on the sound barriers between rooms and possibly better flooring. They never did reply to me and I never saw a credit or even an apology from the hotel and do wish the...
Read moreCustomer service either needs to be retrained or replaced, especially general management. Before even being able to check-in, at about noon, I went into the office to ask if early check-in was provided as advised to do so by the customer service number provided on my itinerary and was answered with a mere shake of the head no. The lady didn't even have the courtesy to actually speak the word no or give a brief explanation as to why considering we traveled by car from Albuquerque New Mexico. I figured she had an off morning and hoped that I would not have to check-in with her later in the afternoon. Luckily we did not check-in with her but did not have a much better experience at this time but fortunately the customer service was better. Our issue was hearing that a couple that had just checked in was sent to an occupied room where they walked in on another couple. Over the radio the customer service lady told housekeeping that the couple was checked in to an occupied room and walked in on the couple naked. We had our reservations after this but being so far from home did not have much of an option but to check in. Upon arrival into the room it looked just as expected with no complaints to be mentioned. The issue I did have is after the stay when I was accused of having my room smell of cigarette smoke and getting charged $200 just because I smoked cigarettes outside away from the room door to ensure smoke was not entering the building. I do this well as I have not smoked in my home for ten years, and have had to be especially cautious with second hand smoke after my second daughter was born prematurely weighing only 2 pounds and three ounces just two years ago. Further, I went sky diving the morning before we checked out and upon returning to the room for our belongings it still smelled like the perfume I sprayed while getting ready; however the general manager had the audacity to say he verified the smell himself and it must have gotten there from the vents. If that was the case and the smoke travels so easily then the smell that he claimed to be getting could have very well been coming from someone smoking at that time in the area, but I was the one profiled and charged which caused an overdraft charge on my account. I wonder if every smoker is profiled in the way that I was or if the company tries to target young couples they feel will take no corrective action? To make matters worse, when I called the actual motel I spoke with a Jeff about my issue who said I had to be transferred to customer service but they then stated that my concerns need to be handled by the hotel and transferred me back to Jeff. Being extremely frustrated with not only my situation but now being passed back and forth like a ball, I demanded to speak with management which was when Jeff decided to finally enlighten me that he was the general manager. I then had to explain that I knew exactly what a prominent company that I was dealing with and knew that there was someone acting as his boss. I was then provided what I believe to be a personal number of someone higher in management which I find to be extremely unprofessional, especially since I called this poor man furious while he was in the middle of a meeting. Now Jeff has not only made himself look bad twice but I felt horrible for feeling like I was interrupting. Never want to go through this again! Thankfully I did get my refund because $200 may not be a lot to this company but is a month worth of food...
Read moreI actually really liked his hotel. It was a bit of a throwback as it sported more of a motel style like places that I used to stay when I was a kid traveling with my parents. All of the room entrances as far as I could tell were exterior. Some people don't like that, but if the area is safe, I actually find it rather convenient. Just pull up to your door, unload and you're set.
This hotel is located less than 30 mimutes from LAS, which is quite convenient, especially when you fly in late and there is a slow getaway from the airport (thanks to incredibly long lines for the rental car shuttle). Another key feature is that it is 20 minutes or less from Hoover Dam and about 10 minutes from the Lake Mead Visitor Center. This was the main reason for choosing this place as our lodging on this segment of our trip.
The building is massive and looked almost imposing on arrival. The website says it has 99 rooms but the impressive structure is three stories high stretching deeper than you'd expect. I would have guessed more rooms than that without looking it up. But it might only be one room deep and that might be why it creates an impression of more.
We arrived at night and the outside lighting they employ creates an attractive facade as you pull up. The area in which it was located was interesting and bordered on kitschy, as it had that remnant of the Old West touristy appeal that I remember as a kid. There were plenty of hotels/motels (many of them Mom and Pop types) and restaurants/pancake houses along the wide boulevard.
The front desk clerk was very pleasant, efficient and knowledgeable. She had us checked in quickly which was appreciated given the late hour. We were at the back end of the building, so finding parking right by our room even at that time was no issue.
The room was adequately spacious for our needs. They only had options for two beds at the time I made the reservation, even though I booked several weeks in advance. We usually prefer King or Queen options, but this was OK. The room was decently equipped and everything, including WiFi, worked well. Some might say the rooms need updating, but I thought they were perfectly fine. The furniture was in good shape and there was nothing about it that was off-putting. The pool was in a separate building. We did not use it, but it looked quite nice. There was also a small, somewhat inconspicuous exercise room on the first floor near the office.
The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet, allowing us to get good sleep. The bathroom allowed us enough room to maneuver so that we could get cleaned up in the morning. The breakfast room was located on the second floor and had almost the feel of a church camp dining hall with an open, plainly decorated layout. But there were also some outside tables in the shade on the walkway and, if you could stand the 90-degree temperature even at that time of the morning, it allowed for a pleasant quieter meal.
The checkout process was smooth and easy. I mentioned the proximity both to the airport and to Hoover Dam/Lake Mead as reasons for choosing this establishment. But the other half of the equation was the $108 price tag. With tax, it was around $120, which was a better deal than most places. Add to that the ability to get BW points, and it was an ideal option for us. I would definitely stay here again if we make a return visit to the local attractions. It was a perfect base for a Hoover Dam or...
