We were so impressed with everything about this hotel. First of all, our "room" was as big as a small house (about 1150 sq feet)! When we walked in, we couldn't believe how impressive it was in size and decor. You could literally LIVE there! Huge great room with a beautiful full kitchen, dinning area and living room. Lovely large bedroom and closet and a huge bathroom. It was built in an historic site and the back wall was original brick. The finishings in the kitchen and bath were high end. It was decorated in both rustic and modern furnishings. The second thing we were very impressed with were the people working there. They were all so warm and welcoming. We got to meet the manager, Nathan and his staff of Jackie, Natalie and Alisa. We originally booked the reservation for 5 nights, but then had a change of plans for the first two. We called the hotel to modify our booking but were told that we needed to go through Expedia since they were the agency we used. Dealing with Expedia was somewhat of a nightmare, and so we were never quite sure if the dates had been changed. After much going back and forth with them, they told us they had made contact with the Kress and that everything was good. I kept all the emails from Expedia just to show the hotel what our intensions were. When we arrived at the hotel, Miss Jackie was the first person we spoke to about the change of plans. She very nicely stated that they had never heard from Expedia and that they considered us as no-show for the first two days. They did, however, hold our reservation, thank God, and honored the modification, only charging us for the 3 days we were there. We cannot not say enough about the great care and customer service we received from the staff. Staying at the Kress was a wonderful experience and we highly recommend it if you are ever...
Read moreOn arrival at the hotel at approx 1830, we were advised that our room had flooded and we couldn’t stay. There was no other room free because a wedding party had booked them all. They said they had tried to contact our mobile - checked the number and it was correct. We had no missed calls but they seemed surprised it was an overseas number. The staff did help us find an alternative place to stay in Darien as the hotels beside them were full as there had also been a festival on that day. They did check we were happy with the increased price as it was approx $38 more. As guest house owners ourselves, we would have been legally obliged to book somewhere else at an equal or better standard for our guests if this situation had arisen. We would also have been liable to pay the difference in costs.||On contacting Hotels.com, they have confirmed that the hotel also get our contact email but again they failed to contact us. Very unprofessional and we are extremely dissatisfied with both Hotels.com and the hotel itself for not rectifying this situation.||The hotel have now replied to our review on the Hotels.com site advising they called and emailed. So the question is why were there no missed calls and where is the email??? Why were they also surprised that it was an overseas number? Do they not have overseas guests staying? More lies. As I run a business my junk email is checked just as regularly as usual email. I really would like to see a copy of...
Read moreThis hotel was the last overnight stay of a two week long trip. We look for two important experiences with accommodations; Cleanliness and Quiet for a restful night. Our first impressions of the hotel and room were excellent. In the bedroom, there was a noise machine and placard lightly addressing that "neighbors" can be a little noisy. The machine was provided to help ease any discomfort. After returning from dinner, the "neighbor", a bar/eatery, was gearing up for the night. The walls are exceptionally thin. We heard entire conversations, music and kitchen staff, all of which could not be subdued by watching television, using ear plugs or suffering with a noise machine that we are unaccustomed to. When checking out, the staff was aware of this issue and we were informed that no one is placed in the Gloucester suite on weekends because of this issue. We find it very frustrating to have paid full price for such an unacceptable experience, especially considering the hotel is aware of it. This was our first time visiting Brunswick. As seasoned travelers and previous owners of a luxury bed & breakfast, we truly wish this review held an opposite description. We also wish the staff had foresight to ask us if this would be a problem and given us a...
