Ecola Creek Lodge — Hotel in Cannon Beach

This was a decently priced, available Cannon Beach option, but I would spend more elsewhere if I was back in the area. Location is great to be outside of the main strip, but close enough to easily walk in. The building looks cute and charming upon first glance at the front, but it needs serious attention. Issues with the room itself: black mold on the windows, all things metal in bathroom are rusted, porches need work, bathroom fan is incredibly loud and not wired separately from light, bathroom fan was also coated with a thick layer of dust, rotting exterior door trim, large mattress stain (urine maybe???). My wife always checks for bugs and there was NO evidence of them whatsoever, but I really wish I hadn’t seen the gross mattress stain. I would assume they charged the person who severely soiled it, but then opted not to use that money to replace it? To continue: poorly installed (loose) and dirty looking carpet, the room is incredibly tiny to begin with, so no real places to open and access suitcases, but then there are also these dirty, old chairs taking up space that neither of us wanted to even touch, limited surfaces to put anything down when you come in the door, zero storage space in the bathroom for toothbrushes and necessities, and the lock to the sliding door was non-functional (security bar in place instead, but why not just fix it?). Room 20 for reference. We stayed in 8 different places on our 2-week PNW trip and this was by far the worst. This was between airbnbs, hotels, lodges, inns, and motels. This was not the least expensive of them either. We actually dreaded having to return here at night because of how dirty, neglected, tiny, and claustrophobic it felt. The positive: staff was friendly, and the location was convenient. ||I’d recommend avoiding this place until they can put in the effort to clean it up and get on top of some much-needed, basic...

This place is located at the north end of Cannon Beach. It’s right at the first intersection coming into town and is close to all the shops and has close beach access. It’s a 2 story beach house style with the rooms facing different directions, so a view of the beach is limited. The grounds are nice with a Koi pond in the middle. The assorted rooms are all close to each other and the office so there’s not a lot of walking involved. This is an older location, so there are no meeting rooms or continental breakfast arrangements. The building and rooms are showing their age. There’s some peeling paint on the doors, sagging molding with dry rot etc…. The rooms themselves are pleasant and not overdone. The furniture in our room was quite beat-up. The bathroom lights were in serious need of a dusting, the coat hook was dangling sideways not secured, and had many screw anchors openly exposed in the walls. The bed was quite squeaky on the ends but was comfy. If you’re on the first floor you will hear the people upstairs as a sign in the room indicates. There was a couch, microwave, fridge and coffeemaker. The TV runs on Roku so bring your account information to access Netflix and Disney +. There are free board games and 2.00 DVD… yet there was no DVD player in the room!? One issue that bugged us was the Wi-Fi. It was free (nice), but was impossibly slow. We tried to watch movies on the built in channels, but kept having to wait for the TV to stop buffering. If you’re a business traveler, you’ll be frustrated with Internet access. Staff was nice and there won’t be any slamming doors or shouting in the hallways in a standard hotel. A nice basic no frills lived in motel, kind of like staying at a friends house. ...

This hotel is a great location for hiking and visiting Cannon Beach. The layout of the hotel is nice and makes for a fairly quiet stay. The front desk employee was very professional and friendly. We do wish our stay was a bit better, especially regarding our room and bed.

The room was mostly clean. We did find some long stray hairs in the bedding and the extra blanket was very dusty. The bed was difficult to sleep in. It is not the worst I've slept in, but my spouse was barely able to sleep due to the mattress being uncomfortable. I was unable to sleep very much because the bed moved every time he adjusted or got up. The noise from the mini fridge was loud and difficult to sleep through. The blinds in the room let through way too much light from the koi pond area. There were too many obstacles to a decent nights sleep, which left us feeling very tired during our stay.

Additionally, due to major streaming networks clamping down logging in away from home, the streaming tv setup is lacking, especially on a rainy day. More apps or local tv would be nice. I was a bit upset there was no PBS app or PBS station to watch, Amazon app, Freevee app, or Pluto tv app.

We wouldn't mind staying again, because of the location, if we knew the mattress would be better and the fridge was quieter. Everything else was either very enjoyable to...
