Bright, attractive, tasteful, comfortable, and conveniently located — that’s how I’d describe Hotel Northampton in Cape Charles, a very charming town on Chesapeake Bay. Five rooms are available, all on the second floor (elevator available), three on the front, two on the back. Our room was on the small side with only one chair, but we spent most of our time on the balcony which extends across the front of the building. It is is not private but is quite spacious, and each room is given two chairs, a table, and a swing. We greatly appreciated the community kitchen nearby, complete with ice maker, Nespresso, hot water pot, teabags, fridge, sink, microwave, and dishware.||Other amenities include pleasant sitting areas on the main floor, a cozy widow’s walk with great views and comfy seating, the option of a full breakfast in the cafe area (charged to the room) on days when the cafe is not open to the public, and parking in back of the hotel.||Right down Mason St. from the hotel are the downtown shops and restaurants, and walks around town to see the lovely Victorian homes, the ways whelks are used as decoration, and a very nice park are delightful. Water views and walking on the boardwalk and the beach are highlights, for sure.||We highly recommend the Barrier Islands Center about 20 minutes north off Route 13 for beautiful exhibits and a fascinating history of the people who once lived on some of the many islands off the Atlantic side of the peninsula. The center is located in what once was the almshouse for county residents, and visitors can learn about its history as well....
Read moreThis was our first time to Cape Charles and we're so lucky to have found The Northampton Hotel. Rooms were small but very clean and well appointed. The porch that is available to our room 2 was also accessible to two other rooms. Lots of space for everyone to sit and enjoy the view of the Bay and socialize. The widow's walk is a great view and an awesome place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine while gazing at the Bay.|| The only downside to this place is the concrete plant directly across the street. This in no way negatively impacted the hotel or our stay. Just the way it is. You can still see the Bay and enjoy the quiet town. It is a very short walk to the beach which has great white sand, no large waves and shallow water for the babies.||||We ate breakfast twice and lunch once at the hotel restaurant. They don't serve dinner. The chef does not disappoint. The Lox Board and Pan Bagnet are fresh and perfectly done. The Avocado Toast and Almond Toast for breakfast are beautifully presented and excellent. Our server was informative, efficient, and lovely. We did not go to Happy Hour, but it looked wonderful. ||||This is an all-around great find. Cape Charles is a small town with lots of good places to shop visit. Will definitely...
Read moreWe had the best stay at the Northampton Hotel!
We stayed in Room 1, which had access to a shared balcony overlooking the water. While the balcony is shared with two other rooms, each room has its own dedicated swing and seating area, so it still feels private. The swing was my favorite spot to relax—absolutely perfect!
The room itself was spotless, beautifully appointed, and the bed was super comfy. We also loved the shared kitchen area, which included a fridge, espresso maker, water dispenser, and more—everything you might need.
One of the unexpected highlights of our stay was the homemade desserts the manager made each night. On our first night, she baked red velvet cake, and on the second night, chocolate chip cookies. They were both incredible! Walking into the house in the evening and being greeted by the smell of fresh-baked treats was such a cozy and welcoming touch.
Also, we had breakfast at the restaurant on our last morning there, and it was absolutely delicious! We wished we had tried it both mornings.
We would highly recommend staying at the...
