My partner and I have been visiting this location for a little over a year. We visit frequently due to work, and had formed some nice connections with some of the staff there, or so we thought. We have never had an issue in the past year. On Friday March 21st we were due to check in for another work trip when we were notified at approximately 7:00pm that we were not welcome to come to the hotel. There were several days before our trip they could have notified us about any issue or even early that day well before the check in time, which is at 3:00pm. We traveled from LA to Carlsbad only to find out that we had nowhere to stay around 7pm. We tried asking why we were no longer welcome, especially since we have had no issues in the past. We weren’t given any information, other than the orders came straight from owners Serena and Sila not the site manager. This not only left us with having to find last minute accommodations, but extremely frustrating because we received no reason and are yet to receive any answers as to why this happened. Over the past year and a half of us visiting the Carlsbad location we encountered several issues including: discrimination from a house keeper who’s name is Lupe. She would follow us around the hotel and go in our room even if we had the “Do not Disturb” sign on the door. We only put the do not disturb sign on the door when Lupe was to service our room. We asked the front desk that she not service our room, but when she would Lupe would purposely mop with dirty water and a smelly rag, made it a point to never change our sheets, and would remove our towels without replacing them. The last time we stayed there (check out 3/17/25) we were late to checkout because We were staying on the second floor and the elevator broke down causing us to carry our belongings down the stairs, which was quite difficult due to my partners disability. Although one of the owners Sila was there, she never apologized for the inconvenience. We didn’t complain, we were never ones to really ever complain DESPITE some of the issues that would happen around the hotel. Couples would be doing drugs in the room next to ours, we never complained. The police were called on Several instances due to other domestic violence issues right next to our room and again we never complained. We would call down concerned for the people next door from time to time, but rarely a complaint. They allowed known prostitutes to conduct business there and yet, we remained quiet. There’s so many dogs that are unkept and untrained on the premises, still we didn’t complain. They allowed a few people that were hauled away by police in handcuffs to return a few weeks later. Yet somehow we were banned from the property and without explanation.
Now I’m not sure if we are unwelcome because we are a same sex partnership, because we are people of color, or due to my partner’s disability, but this whole experience has really hurt us. We loved visiting this hotel when Sila and Lupe weren’t around. We would visit often due to working in the area. We could have stayed at other hotels but some of the staff made us feel like family.
Lupe , Sila and Serena have completely ruined our experience with Wyndham. To be told we aren’t welcome 4 hours after the original check in time is completely unprofessional. I could literally go on and on about the issues at the hotel, but at the time we overlooked these things for the sake of keeping the peace. We don’t know what we could have done to be treated this way, not only is it hurtful but frustrating to feel that we (although remaining committed to spending our hard earned money) had no value and are not...
Read moreMy fiance and I have been staying here for almost a month as we are waiting for our apartment to be ready. We have 2 well-trained, well-behaved, friendly service animals. They are a Husky mix and under 2 years old. Some time after I paid this morning, I received a call in my room from the manager, Sal, saying that we would have to check out in the morning that they were not going to extend our stay anymore because it was brought to his attention that we had dogs in our room. I said "yes, they are service animals". He said , "well unfortunately we are not going to be able to extend your stay. You should have told us in the beginning."
Well, Sal, per the law I do NOT have to tell you ahead of time that I have service animals. Kicking us out because we have service animals is discrimination. What you are saying is that I have to tell you about my disability ahead of time in order to stay in your establishment. If my dogs were a wheelchair, would the same apply? If my dogs were a home health aide, would I have to tell you about him/her ahead of time? So why do I have to tell you that I have service animals ahead of time? According to the American Disabilities Act, no such notice is required and it is unlawful for you to kick me out because of my service animals and because I didn't give you advance notice I was checking in with them.
We are also Platinum Wyndham Rewards Members. You would think that being Platinum members (when Diamond is the only level left) of your loyalty program, your company would show a little more loyalty and not just discard us like yesterday's news. Obviously we have been spending money here to get to that level. I am extremely dismayed at being treated in such a manner. I expect such treatment from the dirt-bag motel down the street but I did not expect it from an establishment with the Wyndham name, especially since you boast "SERVICE ANIMALS ARE WELCOME" for all your hotels! That really should read "SERVICE ANIMALS ARE WELCOME ONLY IF YOU GET OUR PERMISSION IN ADVANCE TO HAVE ONE". Your company is too big, too well-known for you to be this ignorant of the laws and to actively participate in discrimination against anyone particularly of the disabled. I'm ashamed of you and will pursue this issue as far as I need to .
In addition, the front desk prior to this had informed us that it was coming up on 28 days that we had been staying here. Hotels try to do this to circumvent the law that would give one tenancy if staying in the hotel for 30 consecutive days because if you check out and then check back in the next day, you have to wait another 30 days to get tenant rights. If you move out every 28 days, you never achieve tenancy. This game that your hotel, along with several other hotels, is playing is illegal and could result in your hotel being fined $500 each time it does this. $500 does not sound like a lot once but if everyone who you did it to came forward, I imagine it would add up to some hefty fines.
So I will not remain silent. I will tell whoever will listen that Days Inn in Carlsbad on 3700 Pio Pico Dr. participates in the "musical rooms" game to try to circumvent the tenancy law, WHICH IS ILLEGAL and they are also discriminatory, kicking people out because of known service animals brought into their establishment WHICH IS ALSO ILLEGAL.
You guys have some...
Read moreWe liked this place a year ago thought it was clean came back a couple weeks ago. First room smelled like mold and the screen was missing on the window and we had a spider biting us so we switched to an upstairs room. Room was ok, but I went to go plug my laptop in and the only plug I could find was behind the nightstand. Slightly moved the nightstand and I got a whiff of a horrible smell of MOLD/mildew. Used my phone flash and seen the whole back of the nightstand had spots of mold. Hard to spot unless you have a flashlight bc it was white mold. Smelled horrible, definitely wasn’t dust. I moved the nightstand to the closet it smelled so bad and wiped down the wall. I think they have a humidity issue bc I noticed it was humid even with the window open. We accidentally turned the AC on and it also smelled like mold and upon investigating the whole AC unit had mold inside of it. I wouldn’t be surprised if all the furniture in the room had mold on the back side of it (facing the wall). Since the back side of the furniture is the porous cork material instead of wood or fake wood like the front of the furniture. I also seen mold in the bathroom on the wall on top and it wasn’t just in the shower. They need to replace all their furniture but #1 figure out why they have a mold issue. It seems like there might be mold and or leaks inside the walls which would need to be ripped out and replaced. The AC units are also old and not cleaned regularly. Which blowout more mold. The first room the AC unit is on the ground outside facing the road, so I can see how water would accumulate in that unit, since the outside of the units are unprotected from the elements/rain, etc. The windows face odd directions so the rooms don’t get direct sunlight, and the trees on the outside while pretty also block sunlight to the rooms. I think the biggest problem is figuring out why it’s damp and imo whenever I stay at a cheaper motel it’s usually a dampness that seems to come from within the walls. I have a feeling they just wiped the mold off the nightstand, didn’t check any others or have any plans to address the mold issue (which WOULD be a big expense, but the mold will RUIN your motel in...
