We stopped here for one night driving from White Sands to stay in Carlsbad for the Caverns. We were texted by Jennifer prior to our stay to ensure that we had everything we needed to arrive comfortably (as we were getting there after 8pm). When we drove up, there wasn't any parking left out front (all spots were taken), which was a bit confusing, since there wasn't any signage signaling where to park. We drove around a bit, then parked on the other side of the street. The man living on that side of the street was outside booming his radio, and his car was covered with stray cats, which was a bit strange.
Once we got our things out of our car, and lugged our suitcases to the property, we were pleasantly surprised. We couldn't hear the man's radio out front, and it felt like we were transported somewhere out of town instantaneously. It is a quaint and cozy inn with lots of charm. It was quite dark when we arrived, so trying to find our specific room, was an adventure, but we managed it due to Jennifer's detailed instructions. Thank you, Jennifer!
Upon entering our room, we noticed how clean and organized it was. There was breakfast waiting for us on a bench at the foot of the bed, as well as mints, fresh flowers, and cookies in other places. It felt like going to a beloved Great Aunt's home to stay, so it was instantly comfortable and relaxing. I appreciated their inclusion of an extra comforter, as it was a chilly night. The small touches like the soaps, face towels, and mints in teacups, were especially sweet, and made our stay all the more special. The bed was also comfortable. We liked that the room included a microwave, toaster, coffee-maker with coffee and condiments, and fridge for convenience.
The only downside, and why I deducted one star is that you can hear everything from all of the other visitors. When we arrived to our room, a man began shouting that he was angry because he could hear us talking (we could easily hear him on the other side of the wall as well, and he kept telling whoever was with him that he was going to come over and scream at us--which was frightening, and I promptly locked the door), and then in the middle of the night, another person began playing the television so loud it was shaking the window nearest to the bed. It lasted until after 3 am, and we had to wake up at 7. Gladly, I brought ear plugs with me on the trip, and used those to try to get some sleep.
Otherwise, this was a nice place to spend the night. You can tell that attention to detail and thoughtfulness about your stay is carefully planned out by the owners and staff. I am not sure what could be done about the noise, as I realize that the inn is made of tiny homes or rooms. Perhaps, including ear plugs for guests would be a consideration for those staying in the future. Given those inconveniences, I would still stay here for the night, as it was by far the nicest place to stay in the area, and the service given by...
Read moreWe met one of the owners/managers, Jen, upon check-in. Jen was pleasant but seemed a bit harried and we never heard from her again. We stayed in the room named Whiskey Before Breakfast which is described on their web site as "This room is perfectly designed with luxurious comfort in mind. Whiskey Before Breakfast is one of our newest suites, featuring an electric fireplace, vintage ceiling tiles, large sitting area and a luxurious bathroom, complete with a whiskey barrel sink and over-sized, soaking bathtub with a rainfall shower head." Very misleading description to put it mildly.||The room is adjacent to the parking lot of a very busy dental practice. It has a door with translucent glass but other than that the room, NOT suite, has no windows so is dark and dingy. The whiskey barrel sink is old, leaky and beat up along will all of the other plumbing. The rainfall shower is caked with years of sediment from hard water. My second morning I was greeted by a 3" cockroach in the tub, probably came in through a crack in the tile. Overall, far from "luxurious comfort".||Housekeeping with incomplete. One of two trash can's empties, water bottles not replaces, toilet, which needed 2 flushes most of the time, not cleaned.||Great location and the breakfast place was excellent although the $18 voucher certainly didn't cover breakfast for my wife and I. Sadly can't come up with anything else good to say...
Read moreIf you have driven into Carlsbad from pretty much any direction then you probably know it as a small desert town in the middle of nowhere. Well, think of The Fiddlers Inn as an oasis in the midst of it all. Seriously! It was absolutely lovely. The garden courtyard was lush and green and the flowers all over it were colorful and fragrant. It was a super nice, safe place for my three kiddos to get fresh air. Most bed and breakfasts do not allow kids to stay so it was wonderful to find one that did! (Staying in a tiny hotel room is miserable with kiddos.) We stayed in the foggy mountain suite and it was so perfect for our 4 night vacation. A little kitchen and room for us all.
The breakfast was two doors down at a small bakery cafe. And I loved that. It was crowded sometimes, but it was very tasty (get the cinnamon rolls!) and perfect for introverts because we didn't have to make potentially awkward conversation at a big table with all the other B&B guests as can be common at other B&Bs.
It was a lovely stay! If you are anywhere near carlsbad, go to The Fiddlers Inn. Tonk and Julie are unbelievably nice and truly go above and beyond to make your stay a...
