Everything was as expected for a Hyatt hotel, room was clean hotel was also in exceptional condition. Problems arose from services that were advertised available that were not. Hotel did not open the kitchen in the evening, so food was not available at the hotel. After a long day of traveling you count on being able to obtain some food at the hotel if advertised or stated from hotel staff.
As a retired airline captain I have stayed in more Hyatt House and Hyatt properties than I could count, walked down to the lobby in the early morning to obtain a cup of coffee. Found the young lady that was the night attendant fast asleep on the couch. She did not take kindly to me waking her up and was extremely rude and unprofessional. She said "no coffee until 7 AM". That's a first! I have never seen a Hyatt hotel where you couldn't get a early cup of coffee in the morning! I asked her also if she could add my Hyatt account number onto my room reservation and she said no. Then she laid back down on the couch and went back to sleep with me standing there, in other words Go Away.
Apparently, she was responsible to get the hotel's breakfast ready to some degree and managed to sleep through that also. That caused a delay of in excess of 40 minutes. As the morning staff arrived for work they had to rush to get things put together as the girl did not do any of her jobs. A 40 minute delay may not seem like much, but if you have a set departure time based on a stated time for breakfast, it's quite an inconvenience.
lots of us have had to work the night shift, staying awake can be tough. Coffee helps sometimes. At the end of the day if you're paid to do a job then do it. She gets paid in the hospitality industry. Being hospitable to guest might be high on the list.
The rest of the staff at the hotel was very professional and what you would expect. if they're going to advertise service they should provide it, your...
Read moreThis Hyatt hotel is really good, particularly in a small place like Carlsbad. We stayed one night on a Friday night, Feb. 2024. Pros: The rooms are a good size. The beds were very comfortable with good pillows. The linens, towels, and washcloths were clean and nice. Everything throughout the hotel looked and felt clean and seemed to be on the ‘new’ side. (Nothing, including the carpets, looked worn out or in need of replacement, unlike many other hotels these days.) Lighting is great with several lamps throughout the room. Typical big screen TV, fridge, & microwave in the room. Water pressure was good enough in the shower. Door to the bathroom was a pocket door that easily latched & unlatched. Hyatt hotels stock Kennett MD Shampoo, Conditioner, & Body Wash in their bathrooms. Good products. Heater worked well & was not so noisy as to prevent sleep. Good location to the Caverns National Park and Guadalupe National Park. No traffic noise heard overnight. Considerations: Parking on a Friday night required parking in the dirt lot as the paved parking lot is small & full of other cars. (Keep this in mind if it’s been raining, snowing, etc.). The bar was full of people on a Friday night. Maybe that is why the parking lot was so full? Cons: The only disappointment at this hotel was the breakfast. Stick to prepackaged cereal or oatmeal to keep from being disappointed and plan on a good meal somewhere else...
Read moreProbably the worst experience I've had with a Hyatt property due to their Management. i was greeted with a line of 25 others attempting to check in. Due to the property changing their payment processing system everyone was told to fill out a manual reservation form and present their credit card for authorization. My credit card was authorized for what I thought was the entire stay (no issue there), but in actuality was for 1 1/2 nights (?). On the second day I was called in my room and told to come down to the front desk to have my credit card authorized again (even though they had the number on file). At check out I was given a folio receipt for the correct amount and told the $1200.00 authorizations would drop off in 5 business days....or I could call my credit card and let them know I was no longer at the property. Then out of the blue I received an email for a mysterious charge of $230.00 for a nights stay BEFORE I even arrived at the property. I called and spoke to the "Manager" after 2 attempts and was basically told there was nothing they could do about the $1200.00 charges and that they had no idea why I received the folio for $230.00. No offer to do anything else, just told to wait it out. As of today (5 days later) the pending charges are still incorrect.
Unless you enjoy this type of treatment, avoid this property. There are other new Hilton and Marriott locations...
