{First of all, I would like to point out that I find it odd that all the people that left 5 Star reviews did not post ANY photos to support their reviews}
I'm giving this motel two stars because I'm trying to be completely fair. I really don't know how the city of Carlsbad gets down. I left a poor review of the Days Inn at Wyndham hotel which was nearby because they canceled my reservation without notice and forced me to search for a different motel. The different motel that I located, ended up being the Rodeway Inn.
My fiancee and I had come all the way from Las Vegas which was a 12-hour trip and as I previously mentioned, we were forced to find someplace to stay in the dead of night. We were advised to go online and try our luck at finding another available hotel room for an affordable price. The Rodeway Inn popped up in the search. Past experience has taught me that whenever you get the last of what's left over, there's a reason why it was left over. The room was located right under the stairs and there was an adjoining suite door which made me concerned about noise issues. However, it was 12:00 midnight and the only thing I was really concerned about was just going to bed at that point.
I noticed that there were two lamps and a clock. The lamps came with an extra electrical outlet as though to make it more convenient for people that wanted to plug in the charger for their cell phones without having to bend down and plug the charger into a wall outlet. The clock appeared to be unplugged. I turned on the lamp that was closest to the door. My fiancee tried to turn on the lamp that was closest to the wall, but noticed that the plug seem to be plugged into the lamp. She looked around and discovered that there was no wall outlet close to her vicinity. I told her we might as well use the outlet near me because I'm not going to plug in the clock. As we were trying to move the wire around to my vicinity, she came upon a cut in the wire. we immediately abandoned ship on that idea because that appeared to be a potential electrical hazard.
After reading some reviews, she felt that the room might not be as clean as possible because others have reported sightings of bed bugs and other insects. I myself, felt that the room looked clean. They had working AC, fluffy pillows, the sheets looked clean, there was a high desk with a non-matching office chair (also clean), there were very nice pictures on the wall (although they were not evenly hung), there was also a 40in flat screen television with access to DirecTV on the opposite wall across from the bed. So, upon initial entry, everything appeared to be order minus the lamp. We passed out and went to sleep...
Or we tried... 4AM people started getting up and making noise and starting cars and doing the wake up thing. Unbeknownst to me until later, our window had been open the entire time (which accounted for the fact that the air conditioner appeared to continue running all night long). At that point, we noticed that the walls were paper thin. We tried to acquire the last few crumbs of sleep after the general "parade" only to awoken by a loud cellphone conversation in Spanish. Time to Wake Up.
My fiancee has a morning routine of getting up, making her coffee, and then getting into the shower. After she gets out of the shower, she reports that the shower water has no pressure. She would have taken a bath but there was no drain plug. The bathroom has two lights, a heat lamp and a regular light. The regular light would not come on using any of the light switches. My fiancee is a smoker and I noticed that none of the smoke detectors went off. After inspection, I noticed that none of the smoke detectors was even plugged in or operating. It was at that point that I decided that we need to not stay there another day. We just felt unsafe.
Planning on staying in Carlsbad for a few days? Shell out a few more bucks and find a better property. If you're trying to just lay down for a night before you continue your journey, try this place and make sure you close all...
Read moreThis was the worst experience I have ever had using Choice Hotels. 1. When we went to check in we were informed that our reservation had been for the previous weekend, and because we did not cancel, they had charged our card anyway.||2. While my family was made to sit in the car in 100F heat, the staff would not allow my us into even use the restroom in thier airconditioned lobby.||3. I was placed on hold for over one hour as reservations and customer service tried to sort it out. ||4. I was finally told that although I claimed to have made the reservation on the telephone line, that their records claim that i made it on-line, and that i could speak directly to the hotel manager, who they had just spoke to and who was there to help me.||5. When I again approached the night check in window, the lady said the manager had stepped out and could not be contacted, I gave her my cell an asked that he call me, knowing that he surely has a cell phone, but she refused to book us into a room unless we paid again. So, we left the hotel and went to the Marriott. ||6. A Choice Rewards reservations person graciously called my wife and offered to get us reservation for the night at that same hotel. ||7. I refuse to pay this crook twice, and demand my money be refunded as it is clear what happened, when I called on the 20th to make my reservation for the 25th, the reservations person accidently made the reservation for the 20th.||8. Unfortunatly, my call log does not allow me to go back that far,||9. Due to the gracious attitude of the caring person who called my wife back, we booked two nights at the EconoLodge down the street, but will submit a formal complaint to Rodeway Inn for the...
Read moreWorst "owners" I've ever encountered. Besides the cost and to pay was my choice, the front desk, also the owners of the franchise, the most rude "customer service" I've ever experienced. I was told check out was 12. There was a miscommunication, which I took responsibility for because I thought the room was booked for two nights, talk to the front desk and was told I need to hurry up and GET OUT. I asked the front desk if she wanted me to pay more. She said no she just wanted for me to hurry and GET OUT so housekeeping could clean the room and I should probably tip the maid. Calling every 10 minutes reminding me to hurry up so housekeeping could clean is something I've never experienced. I was out by 1245 and once working in the hospitality business even took the sheets, pillowcases, gathered the trash and towels and put them where the one hotel I used to work for did things so that way it would be easier on housekeeping. As I walk to my vehicle the way the front desk Personnel made it seem like my room was the last room of the day to be cleaned when in fact I counted 3 more housekeepers cleaning still. Just the overall fact that the front desk, whom I was told by housekeeping were the franchise owners, were rushing me out so rudely I would not recommend to anyone to stay at this site. I'd rather sleep in my car. For $160 total for a Rodeway Inn, one night, not even FRESH HOT coffee. Too bad there isn't a negative star I could rate...
