We had a mixed experience during our stay, but I would like to start by highlighting the positive aspects. The room was quite spacious, always very clean, and the bed was extremely cozy. Additionally, the staff provided a helpful list of restaurant options in the area, which made our dining choices easier. However, there were some negative points that need to be mentioned. One of the main issues is that the hotel does not have an elevator, meaning you have to carry your own heavy luggage without any assistance. This can be inconvenient, especially for those traveling with bulky bags. Another point to note is that the shower didn’t get as hot as I would have liked on chilly days, and the shower door does not close completely, resulting in a wet bathroom by the end of the shower. Adding heated floors would be a fantastic improvement. The most notable issue, however, occurred during check-out. When we decided to extend our stay, there was a lack of clear communication from the staff regarding the new rate that would apply. This became problematic as we were informed of a different amount when it was time to settle our bill. I believe that communication in this regard could be much more transparent. In summary, while Candle Light Inn has its strengths, there are areas that need attention to enhance the...
Read moreI will start by saying the check in man (sorry I forgot his name) was very nice! Bed comfortable, spacious room, quite location. very good coffee, great location! Shower pressure was terrible, nice big shower so was disappointed in that. But all in all Candle Light Inn was nice.....sure wish I could have stayed my second night there.
Having said that, I was suppose to be at Svendsgaard's Inn. Booked on Booking July 27th. Got a call on August 19th (the day before I was to leave) that my reservation was messed up on their end, sorry no rooms! Was booked in 2 different hotels of theirs for 2 different nights. Didn't make for a relaxing get away. ESPECIALLY since night #2 was at their Wayside Inn DONT LET THEM GIVE YOU ROOM 14 Probably room 15 too. When I got to the room, ALL I could hear was the banging of the hotels washer machine ALL DAY and until 6pm. The TV couldn't even drown it out. If you like to chill any part of your day that's what you will hear. The walls are paper (paper) thin. Sounded like a family of elephants checked in above me. Cleaning staff loudly started early and ramped up the washer machine...
Read moreThis is a hidden gem. The inn really doesn't look like much from the outside, but when we opened the door to our room, my jaw dropped. It's easily the most beautiful hotel room we've ever seen in terms of the decor. Very elegant. The furnishings are a step above what you expect from a hotel room, which are usually pretty generic. The bed is like climbing into a cloud - very upscale bedding and just super-comfy. It has all the amenities you'd want - mini-fridge, Keurig, fluffy bathrobes, hair dryer, etc.
The location is perfect - easy walking distance to pretty much everything in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea and to the beach.
The staff is wonderful, and there are fresh baked complimentary cookies in the lobby every day, along with a nice firepit where we sat in the evenings with a glass of wine.
The only (minor) con was the shower in our room. The shower head comes out of the wall at a height where, at 5'8", I had to do a semi squat like I was sitting down in a chair in order to wash my hair. I can't imagine anyone taller being able to comfortably shower in there. Maybe other rooms have a different...
