Staff was great: polite, attentive and conscientious. This room was quite possibly the cleanest hotel room I have ever stayed in. I have life-threatening food allergies, and I felt totally safe using the table. Surfaces literally shined.
They don’t allow pets, which is why I chose this hotel, as I also have a life-threatening allergy to dogs and most hotels and motels in Carmel allow them.
The shutters on the windows unfortunately did not block light enough, so I had a very difficult time sleeping.
It was also very loud. I am unfortunately a very light sleeper. The street isn’t noisy at night, but the walls are poorly insulated and all of the doors and cupboards slam. I could hear every time a door or cabinet was closed in the nearby rooms as well as every step on the balcony /walkway outside. The bathroom door needed to be planed and wouldn’t latch if you didn’t pull it closed very firmly, which made a loud noise. (Room 204) The mini fridge was also very old and quite noisy when it ran. It was, however, incredibly clean, just like everything else in the room.
My second night I turned my white noise machine up almost as high as it would go and also put earplugs in at 6 AM when neighbors started walking around and closing doors. This made the noise level a little more tolerable, so I got a couple more hours of sleep than the night before. The location is amazing. It’s a very small Carmel-sized block away from Ocean, which is the main street in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Wonderful restaurants and shops are close at hand. Most of my favorite art galleries in the world are located in Carmel-by-the-Sea, with an easy walking distance of this little Inn.
I think it was overall a good value for the money. My husband sleeps more deeply than I do, and he wasn’t overly bothered...

Pros: comfortable bed, room was compact but had everything we needed (except no microwave). Bathroom looks newly renovated. The shower is huge and it had nice water pressure and temperature. Room had two luggage stands. The gas fireplace was very nice. Room had a nice amount of lights. Entry front desk is a very nice area. Had a vending machine, ice machine, and suite case wheel racks you could use. The person that checked us in was very nice. Great walking location in Carmel. Pool is heated. There is a very nice deli next door to the hotel so that helps for cheap dinners and breakfast. They also have a liquor store next door. Every worker we talked to was extremely nice and has helpful as they could be.
Cons: No microwave but we have a fridge? Maybe it's just for drinks. The iron is locked to the board so filling it with water is a pain. The parking was difficult if you come in late. The parking spots on the property are pretty small. Elevator is a bit sketchy. The bathroom sink area, even with the window ledge and small sink shelf is not enough room. The hot water at the sink is a very little stream. Loud bathroom door so it's hard to sneak in and out without waking your partner. The pillows are very stiff. At 9:30 am and breakfast area was close with small baggies of water, banana, and cinnamon pastry. The only microwave on the property has been locked in the breakfast area so what is the point? I was kicked out of the wifi, I thought no problem, I'll just reconnect. I retype my access code to the Wi-Fi portal and it says that it's no longer valid. I tried calling the 24-hour help desk and it says that phone number is no longer in service. Turns out they reset the password. Our final bill had 3 different types of taxes, about...
Read moreOn 9/4/17, we arrived at 1pm and the guy at the front desk said check in is at 3, come back then. We came back at 3, got to our room and were exhausted from the drive and the day. We had been in the room for about 15 minutes, my wife and I were trying to take a nap and all this sudden our room door opens forcefully and loudly. My wife screamed as she was half naked and the guy promptly left and shut the door. It was someone from the Best Western staff but not exactly sure who he was. It was extremely embarrassing and intrusive. We were shocked and very disappointed. The only reason why we didn't report it at the time was because we were so tired and we didn't want to half to deal with anything else. Continuing trying to take a nap it was extremely hot and unconformable as there was no AC and no Fans. I called in for a fan and they told me sorry we don't have any left and there's nothing we can do. So leaving the window open trying to get some air the staff was really loud outside, pulling the work truck in and out, making loud noises, someone was smoking and the smoke went inside our room. It was safe to say a nap wasn't happening. We left in disgust and came back later that evening and that's when the employee at the front desk salvaged our night with at least giving us his fan. I don't think we'll ever be staying at a Best...
