It was a nice stay & the rooms are Magnificently Clean. I rented the studio vs the suite; both are the same square footage, but they're arranged differently. We rented 2 rooms, 1 4 my Mom&Dad & another 4 myself. When we checked in they said that my room wasn't ready yet& that they'd call me as soon as it was (I wasn't able to shower, use the restroom, or change bc they claim to have "forgotten" to call my parents room to let them know it was ready... That was from 3pm-6:15pm day 1 there. I didn't get to see my room until later that night when we returned. If I were the manager, I would've DEFINITELY given me that night free of charge (or discounted further rate). I wouldn't allow my customers to feel the way I did, be put out the way I was, & caused me to miss more than half of the function we attended that evening bc I was in the public restrooms cleaning myself up, changing, & using the bathroom. A horrible start to say the bars minimum. I rated it 4 stars, even though I wanted so very badly to give it a 2 star rating... Based solely off of my 1st 18 hrs out of 3 days 2 nights stay. I have calmed down a bit & again everything was good-great in the hotel (- the super small parking lot that was mostly filled each time we entered it). The Front desk staff were very nice, helpful, & willing to answer questions when asked. It's located 0.25miles from a beautiful section of town that you can walk to& spend an entire day there shopping & just walking around the beautiful atmosphere (cobble stone like roads with a circle in the middle & it was not over crowded (if I ever go back I'd love to spend a day there. The full Breakfast bar was good-great & times opened 4 breakfast are Great (6:30am -9:30am). It's non smoking, but they have outside patio's where u can relax, set a fire in the fireplace outside & actually enjoy yourself vs being put in a corner or asked to leave the property that I paid to stay in(idk how that's even allowed but it's happened b4). They have half a basketball court outside of the Terrace level(underneath floor 1) it's good 4 1v1 2v2, horse, around the world, etc. Also an indoor pool that's probably half the size I thought it'd be (â½ the size of normal sized lap pools & a Âź of Olympic sized pools).. The wright room is a complete joke though unless u want to walk on a treadmill or elliptical machine, they had some dumbbells, yet no bench, & no universal system 4 lifting weights. I was disappointed w/that. Overall I'd give it a 3.8 bc it was SO VERY CLEAN, and the other positives I've listed throughout this review. I'll remain upset& reluctant to stay there again bc of all the troubles caused by not having my room ready until late evening time. Again, if I were the manager/owner, I'd have never let someone pay a single cent 4 what I had to go through bc in essence it ruined 1/2 my stay there & caused multiple problems in the events of day #2 bc I couldn't sleep as I was so frustrated & upset about being told I'm late, & other's in my group claiming that I ruined their night & next day bc of it. My parents, their parents, & their parents being from a military background & timing equals everything to them (why the timing of my room being ready more than a few hours late didn't affect them idk, but I took the brunt of it the entire trip. If they don't mess up your entire vacation/stay then I'd recommend staying here, but 4 myself; I'll never stay there again given the compounding issues I ENDURED starting the very 1st day I was there.    Read moreI was thoroughly appalled by my recent stay at the Residence Inn SouthPark in Charlotte. My initial encounter with this property was nothing short of a nightmare. The moment I stepped into the hotel, an overpowering stench of mildew assaulted my senses, not only in the hallway but also within my own room. This was simply unacceptable. This is particularly given the fact that other guests have apparently been complaining about this in online reviews going back months. I wish I had read those reviews prior to entering this property.
Incredibly, the situation worsened. The following morning, I ventured to the gym, only to find that the air conditioning had decided to take a vacation of its own, leaving the room at 80 degrees according to the thermostat. My workout became an exercise in sheer discomfort.
Unfortunately, the horrors didnât end there. On the second day of my stay, the noxious stench of mildew had escalated to an insufferable degree, now mingling with an absolutely revolting sewage odor. This was not merely disappointing; it was unsanitary and wholly unacceptable. I was not the only guest to complain of this during my stay according to the front desk staff.
Despite my determination to have breakfast, the olfactory assault in the hallway intensified, forcing me to endure a nauseating combination of mildew and sewage. To make matters worse, the stench of mildew had infiltrated my clothing and belongings, leaving an indelible reminder of my stay.
To add to my discomfort, there was another unsettling incident involving the elevator. When I attempted to return to my room on the third floor after complaining about the smell to management, the elevator suddenly embarked on an erratic journey. It took me and another guest on an unexpected ride, ascending to the 8th floor, descending to the 7th, then ascending again to the 8th, only to finally return to the third. This unnerving experience, combined with everything else that happened during my stay, left me incredibly uncomfortable and concerned for my safety. Like the mildew smell, this is not the first time the malfunctioning elevator has been mentioned in online reviews.
Given the escalating noxious smells, I had to cut my stay at the Residence Inn SouthPark in Charlotte a day short. This is honestly the worst hotel I've ever visited. I implore you not to stay at this property and thereby avoid this appalling situation. As a devoted Marriott Bonvoy member, I hold the Marriott brand to the highest standards. This experience was an egregious betrayal of those...
Read moreOur stay was abysmal from start to finish. It was our daughter's wedding weekend. We had a reservation for a one bedroom unit for three nights. There were also 2 other reservations tied to ours for family members coming in for the wedding. Upon check in we were told the indoor pool was closed due to maintenance. We had to wait 25 minutes in the lobby for the one luggage cart they had on site to be returned. (It was my's daughter's wedding so I had a lot of stuff) The first room we had was around 85+ degrees with no functioning air unit. The second room they put us in had extensive water damage in the bathroom with black mold growing up one of the walls. They put us in a third room that initally seemed fine. It was clean enough, the air unit was working and no black mold (although there was water damage in the bathroom) We left for the wedding rehearsal and dinner. When we returned to our room that evening the enitre hall including our room was thick with cigarette smoke and the air unit in out third room had stopped working. So Christy (night auditor) moved us to a FOURTH room after she confirmed that the air unit was not working. That room smelled of cigarette smoke as well, but we were exhausted and needed to get our 9 year old child in bed. (It was midnight at that point) The next morning the air unit in the fourth room stopped working. After maintenance came and confirmed this, Jennifer moved us to a FIFTH room. Five rooms in 15 hours. After all these rooms we FINALLY landed in one that was clean and that had all functioning parts per se. AND there was no water damage in this last room. We stayed in this room our remaining two nights with no issues. One of our family members was in a two bedroom unit. He is also Marriott Platinum and of the 3 tvs in their room, only one worked. He put in two maintenance requests to have them fixed, but according to him maintenance never came and their issue was never resovled.
On the plus side, these issues were beyond the control of the staff. The many, many issues we encountered during our stay we due to building and maintenance issues. Most of the staff (Christy and Jennifer mainly) were accommodating and helpful.
It's been a week and a half since we checked out. After two phone calls and all this time they still have yet to credit my Marriot Bonvoy account for ths stay.
Do yourself a favor and stay elswhere. There are plenty of lovely hotels in the Southpark area. This is not...
