We drove over 12 hours to get here and this place completely drained us.
1st night we arrived my wife spotted a bed bug on the bed so we immediately called the front desk and 2 managers arrived within a few minutes(Dakota & Jake). They looked in back of one of the beds, looked at each other with a terrified look and said that we quickly needed to leave the room and gather our belongings.
They were super apologetic and promised us another room and that they would fully refund us what we paid for the trip. I honestly never would have asked for a full refund but it was offered to me and I expected them to honor it.
They moved us to another room that only had 1 king size bed(We originally had 2 Queen beds because we had our 2 kids with us) I had to sleep on a very uncomfortable curvy couch because although my child is much smaller, he absolutely would have fallen off. My other kid luckily still fits in a playpen. So my wife and oldest son on the bed and me on the couch.
You would think that would be the worst part right? Nope..After being exhausted from traveling there and finally getting the kids into bed, the fire alarm goes off a little after midnight. We have to wake up our exhausted kids, and run downstairs until the fire dept cleared everyone to go back in. No answer on what caused the alarm except "They are investigating it"
Go back upstairs, put the kids to bed and my wife and I spent about 2 hours going thru our luggage and bags to make sure there weren't any bugs that crept inside any of our bags.
We finally fall asleep and get about 3 hrs of sleep and are awaken by another fire alarm around 8:30am. After the night we had, we were hoping to sleep in a bit. Renaissance Charlotte had other plans.
At this point we felt we indeed deserved a full refund. My wife went downstairs and spoke with one of the managers that helped us the night before and he assured us that we would get the full refund discussed but that we needed to contact Expedia to then contact them to confirm the story
We contacted Expedia, told them what happened and one of the managers confirmed Expedia did contact them and she confirmed our story with them.
Later on that day, they give us a room we originally asked for. The managers checked the beds for us to make sure there were no bugs and all was good. They even signed me up for Marriott rewards for a future stay.
Since we had 3 different rooms, I eventually realized a pair or my sneakers were missing and it must have been left in one of the rooms. Let the manager know and of course, no sneakers found.
I contacted Expedia Wed since it had been several days and nobody had contacted me about the refund they originally offered. Expedia called the front desk and the story then changed to "Well we refunded the first night only" That is not what was offered to me and I explained that I originally never asked for a refund but they were clearly so embarrassed when it happened, my wife and I were told we would get a full refund.
It came to a point where I was so drained by this place that I didn't even want to discuss the refund anymore. I was asked to email the manager in charge and I didn't want to bother at that point.
I never had an experience where I was dying to leave a hotel to come home. This place completely ruined a trip my wife and I had planned for months. We originally chose it because at the time, the reviews were great and the pictures made it look glamarous. Our 1st family roadtrip with our 2 kids will be one to remember but not for good reasons.
This trip I lost my favorite sneakers, a whole night of my trip, and hours of going back and forth with Expedia & their front desk.
If anyone sees my past reviews, I very rarely review anything negatively. With the climate that we are in, I'd hate for people to lose business but this experience was beyond anything I could have ever imagined.
Perhaps since I wasn't rude and did my best to be understanding, they felt the could...
Read moreWhat a disappointing experience. This is NOT a 4 star hotel. I was in town for a conference and decided to stay here instead of the conference hotel, thinking this would be a treat. The decor is cheesy and cheap. Upon checking into my room, part of the cheap plastic chandelier fell onto my companion's head. The paint on the walls was haphazardly touched up and the bed linens were thin. The thermostat was difficult to use and a fan blew air loudly at all times with no option to turn it off. A cheap coffeemaker. A weird smell in the halls. The doors to the rooms are so incredibly thin that you can hear every passing footstep, crying child and boisterous drunk person as if they are right next do you. My companion and I were startled awake on multiple occasions by extreme noise in the halls. Not to mention you can hear sirens and car noise loudly through the windows which do not appear to be sealed well as they are filled with condensation between the panes. I approached a lobby coffee station in the morning but was immediately descended upon by a staff member who told me I needed to purchase the entire breakfast buffet to enjoy one 1 small to-go coffee.
BUT this wasn't even the most disappointing part. The fire alarm went off at 1am, forcing everyone to evacuate. Then it went off AGAIN at 9am when I was trying to sleep in after struggling to fall back asleep, forcing everyone out again. It was incredible jarring and disorienting. When I approached the front desk the next day looking for accommodations due to a disrupted night's sleep, as well as reassurance that the system would not malfunction again that night, I was basically interrupted and told the system was functioning perfectly and therefore no considerations would be offered, but as a special treat I could have (1) breakfast buffet the following morning. For what I paid for an upgraded 4-star hotel experience, this was not satisfactory for me. I checked out early and rebooked at a nicer hotel nearby.
Prior to approaching the front desk I tried to communicate with Marriott corporate via web and phone about my disappointing experience, but was instructed to talk to the front desk, so I had to leave my conference at lunch to hash it out. It was a bummer to not be assisted or treated like a valued guest.
My conference hotel is also a Marriott, and there is ALSO no complimentary coffee in the lobby and nowhere to fill up my water bottle. The paid coffee bar was not staffed for our 9am meeting on Friday.
This is one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had, and I've experienced bed bugs before! I will be avoiding Marriott brands...
Read moreMy seven year old and I were having a Mommy/Daughter weekend. Knowing how much she loves American Girl, I opted for the American Girl package. It was worth every penny. Our experience began once we arrived and a friendly staff member greated us, directed us to check in and offered to help us with our luggage. Check in was painless and there was a separate check in for my daughter and her dolls, which thrilled her. She was given a separate key to the room with her name on it. It made her feel important and special. Our room was wonderful in pink and white. I think I was just as excited as my daughter when we saw the room. The package included an American Girl doll bed, robe, and slippers. However, the hotel made a mistake as there were 2 doll beds in the room. Since I allowed my daughter to bring two dolls she was thrilled because she thought both beds were hers, but it was a mistake. I explained the situation to the front desk and we were allowed to purchase the second bed at a very reasonable rate. I later noticed that my daughter hid a third doll in her bag and the front desk did not miss a beat. While we were out exploring the town, they delivered a third bed to our room. Milk and cookies were delivered to our room and the cookies were wonderful. The staff was phenomenal and engaged my daughter and her interest in American Girl. They made my daughter feel important. We also had great encounters with very friendly guests with many asking her about the American Girl horse she brought along in case her dolls wanted a ride. Although many expect these services from hotels, to a seven year old it is special and makes for good memories. My daughter loved the fact that we could charge our meals to our room. She enjoyed the decor and especially the orange chairs that swiveled. The only thing she complained about was the choice in children's programming, but it was not a huge issue as we only watched television when we were resting from our long drive or serving as back ground noise when we dressing or playing games. We usually travel on a budget, but the experience at Renaissance Charlotte SouthPark Hotel was worth the splurge. The location of this hotel was great. It was just a mile from SouthPark Mall and about 15 minutes from all the places we wanted to go. Although the appearance was that this hotel serves a lot of business associates, it was a great place for a family as well. My daughter wants to stay again next Summer for a...
