The Barclay at South Park, Charlotte, NC
I have moved to the Independent Resident Living section of The Barclay, which is a full service retirement type facility. I looked at several other facilities in Charlotte, and chose The Barclay for its location, and the many amenities it offered, and it did not require a purchase or a large non-refundable entrance fee, it is strictly a lease arrangement on a monthly basis with the amenities included. My experience with the sales and marketing director, and the move-in coordinator was excellent, always available to answer questions as I started my research and decision making process. My move went very good, and as I settled in to my new home, I realized how excellent the entire staff is concerning the operations of this facility. This includes the concierge, valet, dining, housekeeping, maintenance, etc. The Life Enrichment & Wellness program has to be the best in the country, there are plenty of activities planned each week that you can participate or not. We just had the Barclay Olympics, 5 days of fun activities, one of the best ways to get to know your neighbors, team comradery, competition, and socialization. I have to emphasize The Barclay is in the best location of Charlotte, very close to everything, including doctors, and hospitals which as we get older seem to need more and more. By the way, I just turned 80, and in very good health, and very active, but still need Dr appointments! As I look at my new friends, and now my neighbors, we have golfers, bridge players, pickle ball players, exercise classes, swimming, you name it, a good way to stay fit. Also, I have to emphasize the dining experience, the meals are fantastic, lunch or dinner will equal a 5 star restaurant, and the best wait staff I have ever seen, and they know who you are, you feel like you are somebody.
I was in the engineering and construction business for 45 years, this facility is one of the best built, high quality, modern facilities I have seen with high ceilings, beautiful floors wood, carpet, and tile, top of the line kitchen appliances, same with bathrooms, and a fire sprinkler system through out the facility. Plenty of elevators, beautiful lobby, and deck areas, a great layout with dining as part of the main building, so you don't ever have to go outside, and also parking in the lower level of the building with elevator to lobby.
I didn't want to leave my home on the coast but my daughter convinced me that I should be closer to family, and she had heard of The Barclay, I can now say, I am glad I listened to her, and I can call The Barclay...
Read moreI am a lucky daughter who has a lucky parent at The Barclay. The main reason I love it is because my Dad loves it so much!
From day one, our family has been impressed with the quality and friendliness of the staff-- a special shout-out to Lacy, who made touring and moving-in seamless, and Chris, who remembers all the things my Dad likes to eat or drink and always makes us smile! Alisha at the bar serves up the best cocktails and is so kind. The Barclay is fun, lively, and makes every effort to care for my Dad the way we do.
One day my Dad didn't feel well and hadn't eaten all day. I texted the office while I was on the phone with him that I was concerned, and within minutes, I heard someone knocking on the door. My dad said, "Hold on, someone's here," and then opened his door to see Sky bringing him a bowl of homemade chicken and rice! Again, thank you Sky! The personal service at The Barclay is more than we could have imagined.
And as for the decor--it's gorgeous! I am an interior designer and can say that the building, lobby, restaurants, common spaces, and apartments are top notch with high quality materials used throughout. There are tall ceilings, deep crown moldings, beautiful hardwood floors, and high-end fabrics, furniture and appliances around each new corner. I feel like I'm in a 5-star hotel when I visit. Thank you everyone who takes such great care of my Dad. He and our family couldn't be happier with...
Read moreMy husband and I have lived at The Barclay for 18 months and have loved every minute of it. The staff is so friendly and helpful; there are top of the line wellness classes; creative and fun events (a new movie every Saturday night); the meals by Marcelo are equal to any fine dining restaurant; the convenience of having all amenities under one roof are fabulous especially in bad weather; having Briar Creek, our health center, "down the hall" makes attending PT classes or visiting sick loved ones easy; having transportation to events, shopping and doctors' visits; concierge service 24/7; the seven day per week valet service (the valets even help with your purchases); and a feeling of total security all make living here the best. And not to forget, the location of The Barclay in the heart of SouthPark with premier shopping, banks, gas stations, some of the best restaurants in the area, pharmacies, separate health services, and an adjoining hotel for your guests and so much more cannot be beat. And most importantly, the wonderful people we have met, both residents and staff which complete our happiness at The Barclay at SouthPark. There is never a moment to be bored but you are free to have a busy or laid back happy...
