Worst Hampton Inn we've ever stayed at.....and we've been to a LOT of them all over the US & Canada. Find another hotel....this one is not anywhere near normal Hilton standards. There are others nearby and couldn't be worse.|| Room tiny, about 10 feet wide, 2 Queen beds hardly any room to maneuver about the room, single chair rammed up against the bed, no room to get by or even use the chair/desk.| No towel rails in bathroom, only 1 measly hook| Beds hard as rocks...probably the cheapest beds they could find. Not too long ago, Hampton Inns prided themselves on their wonderful pillow-top mattresses, like sleeping on a cloud. One could look forward to a comfortable sleep. Alas, no more.| | Elevator between outer door and lobby door....anyone off the street would have access to the rooms. No visibility from the front desk. Safety concern for sure| Ridiculous sliding barn door to bathroom. Of course: the room was so small that's the only place they could put the bathroom. No privacy| No closet or place to hang your clothes. 2 hangers and a hook on the wall was all there was!| Even the guest computer was out of order so if you had to do any business, you were out of luck| No housekeeping until 4 days of stay| Overall a poorly designed hotel from top to bottom. (and somebody actually got paid to design this?????)| The handicapped parking places are in back of the hotel, forcing a person to traipse all through a hallway just to get to the front desk.| Yapping dogs everywhere| No guest cookies in the lobby but there were dog treats. I guess they value pets over paying customers.||So if this is the new direction Hampton Inns are going in, we will find other hotels. We are Hilton Honors members and don't feel valued. They did, however, give us 2 bottles of water. Breakfast was ok, the usual, desk clerks...
Read moreI've generally preferred to stay at Hampton Inns since I noticed their beds are consistently comfortable, they offer a decent hot breakfast, and I learned back in business school about their 100% Satisfaction Guarantee, but after staying at this location, I have been converted to a full blown loyal customer.
My wife and I were taking a road trip this past Spring from Atlanta to DC and we had made plans to stop in Charlottesville for a night so that we could see Monticello and the University. We got in pretty late and were disappointed when we got to our room and it reeked of smoke, even though we had requested a non-smoking room. For some reason, the odor seemed to be coming from the bathroom, so we shut the door and I gave my pregnant wife the side of the bed farthest from it and we went to sleep. In the morning, we could still smell the smoke and getting ready in the bathroom was unpleasant to say the least. However, when we went to check out and the man behind the counter asked the usual "How was your stay?", I was delightfully surprised to find out that they actually valued my answer. When I responded that the stay was "not as nice as I had hoped" and explained what had happened, he calmly said "Well sir, we apologize for your experience and here at Hampton Inn we have a 100% satisfaction guarantee, so your stay is on us." I was a bit shocked. Like I said, I had learned about their guarantee back in a college marketing class, but I had never seen how effective it could be first hand. I wasn't trying to make stink or even seek compensation, but they responded to my feedback with real class and with no argument.
Things happen and we could have had a smokey room anywhere, but the way Hampton Inn recovered has made me "drink the kool-aid". I look forward to...
Read moreStayed here for UVA graduation with family, we had 3 rooms. It's a reasonably modern (probably refurbished not too long ago) Hampton Inn, however, it fell short of our standards in several ways. We've stayed at many Hampton Inns and this one was a bit lacking. To start, one of our rooms (out of 3) had a dank/musty smell. I'm not sure where the smell was coming from, if I had to guess it would be the carpeting.....maybe it got wet at some point, not sure. In any case, it was very noticeable when you entered the room, our family who stayed in other rooms noticed it. Housekeeping would have definitely noticed it unless they had no sense of smell, so there is no excuse, it should have been corrected. Second, the rooms were VERY small. I've never seen rooms at a Hamton Inn this small before, except maybe in a large/condensed city. There was barely enough rooms for both beds and it was pretty tight walking around the room. Third, we tried to use the pool but it was extremely cold and also had a "film" on top of it, as if the filter was not properly working. Finally, the showers were consistenly low on hot water.....the water was only lukewarnm (our other family members experienced this also). Our stay was not horrible, but this Hampton could definitely use some improvements. I would definitely look for another hotel to stay at in this area.
Positives: clean and modern decor close to campus (but not walking distance)
Negatives: very small rooms (basically just enough room for the two queen beds) room had a "dank/musty smell" pool was not clean (had a film on the top of it) and was very cold showers were short on hot water....only...
