Honestly I really do not know who would give them a 5 star unless they had a different owner or cook. Because the food doesn't taste like indian food at all. I had a chicken biryani and my son and husband had two different lamb curry. Biryani tasted like nothing biryani at all. No FLAVOR. And the worst part it was way too salty. I had to eat a chocolate bar afterwards. And I couldn't even eat the chicken. I was reading that someone said the sauce is watered down, that is actually true. My husband and my son their sauce of the lamb was watered down. My son said the food tasted bland. It's like they make a sauce and just throw it over some cooked meat that was grilled or something. The food was also cold.I don't know but this was a bad experience. We came from NC to visit Charlottesville and were very hungry. Came across this restaurant and gave it a try. I have eaten at so many indian restaurant and their food is always delicious and flavorful but this was not worth my money. I'm also indian ( from south america)so I know my spices. The restaurant was full with white people and I felt sorry for them that they don't know the real taste of Indian food. We didn't finish our food. We were driving to Roanoke after that and i had to drink so much water (4 bottles) because the food was way too salty. It was a waste of my time and money because I treated my husband for father's day. So sorry. Would not recommend...
Read moreI was very disappointed and not with the service. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The problem is the food, it has zero flavor. The rice isn't aromatic and contains no star anise or cardamon, stating this from the taste. The appetizer sampler was okay, i would give it 3 stars due to nothing being special. We (family of four) then ordered 2 chicken tikka masala entrees and garlic naan. We received a small bowl of the rice and had to promptly request more so that all members of our party could have some. The chicken masala was ordered at medium spice, it was bland. When i say bland i don't mean under spiced, i mean zero spice. We joked wondering what mild spiced would be... no sauce at all. The garlic nann, we received one piece of naan cut into quarters. Had to request 2 more orders immediately. This was my first time at Milan, but not my first time consuming Indian food. My family eats Indian food no less then 4 times a month.
If you choose to go here, my advice is order multiple orders of naan then proceed up route 29 to the Indian grocery and make your...
Read moreThe reason why I am not giving a higher rating is that the menu, while it has many items, does not have anything that is "distinctly Indian". The food is prepared for the American palate - mild with barely discernible Indian flavors and while this is not necessarily a bad thing in of itself, if you are a person looking to get the authentic experience, you are most likely going to be disappointed. The lasoon gobi was not crispy at all as it should be and was mostly smothered in tomato sauce. Here we would expect more crispy cauliflower and less sauce. The lamb tikka masala had lamb pieces (a bit too gamey and chewy) in a sauce that did not felt unique to the dish. These criticisms being stated, the service is excellent and we had no complaints with any other aspect of the restaurant. Yet the food is the most important part of the restaurant and that's where we felt disappointed. I hope they are able to prepare more authentic dishes - fewer items on the menu as long as they are the "real deal". I hope I don't put off any one who would want to visit the restaurant...
