Holiday Inn Express & Suites Charlottesville by IHG — Hotel in Charlottesville

It is new and conveniently located near the hospital and beside a Wawa. It also has a great exercise room with 2 Pelotons, a rower, a recumbent bike, ellipticals, treadmills, a cable weight machine, free weights, a bench, and some med & stability balls. I was impressed. The breakfast is excellent and fresh. The Dove amenities in the bathroom are genius, and the room was very comfortable. There is also a nice fire pit relaxation area out back and a hot tub/pool area that I did not use.

BUT, that isn't what made this a great stay. We were in town to be with my dying father in the hospital and then hospice. We didn't even stay the night one of the nights, as we slept in chairs and on the floor surrounding him, so it was a hub and a place to get cleaned up. When we did spend the night, it was very comfortable. The staff was very helpful in helping us extend our stay and ensure we had the things we needed. Everyone was kind, from the GM to the front desk staff to the housekeeping staff. The GM and team went above and beyond to write us a condolence card (which included the entire team's names). Allie, you are running a good show and have a big heart. One of your team members even shed a little tear with me when I read the card and began to cry a little. Check in was a breeze. It helps to have an option to check-in online so that when you get there, they just verify your ID and then the keys are in your hands. No need to spend more than a couple minutes at the front desk. A few minutes after getting situated in our room, I received a text from a staff member asking how our room looks and to let them know if there is anything we need. I appreciated this very much and I thought it's great customer service. The overall hotel is clean including our room and bathroom. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, and hand wash are provided. I did use the guest laundry room and if you plan to do the same you can buy laundry soap and dryer sheets at the front desk for less than $5, good for 2 loads. Prepare to bring quarters because the machines run on those. If you do not have any, front desk will save you! We also got to use the fitness room which is open either 24 hours or open late at night, I don't exactly remember. We went after 11PM and were by ourselves there. Very clean too. The location of the hotel is also centrally located so there are many restaurants and stores nearby. I would stay here again and totally recommend this hotel. My stay here was absolutely phenomenal!!! Mary, at the front desk, went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed! She was incredibly kind and helpful! I would highly recommend this place based solely on the employees, they were all that amazing, but this location was also extremely clean, had a huge delicious breakfast, a well maintained pool and exercise room! Alonzo, the gentleman preparing breakfast, heard my daughter want bacon instead of the sausage that was prepared and he told her he’d make sure she’d have it the next morning! We went downstairs the next morning and saw Alonzo standing there with a huge smile, he said “I didn't forget your bacon!” Even down to the housekeeping staff I cannot speak highly enough, especially Sherina. My husband threw some towels in the housekeeping cart when they were cleaning rooms because we didn’t need ours cleaned. When we got back to the room my husband’s folded shirt was on our doorknob. A few hours later Sherina saw us in the hallway and made sure he got his shirt, it was accidentally mixed in with the towels he put in the cart!
