I would First off that the lobby and the room you are getting are two different things.Once you get to your room you will notice that the rooms are outdated. Not just outdated, but also quite dirty. We arrived to the room and noticed the floors needed cleaning. Now the location is great since it is near the malls and shopping centers. Yet the service here is quite a gamble. Some of the staff is great but some are quite rude. For example, I needed some shampoos for me and my family. I asked for four shampoos four and four conditioner since the bottles were the size of my index finger. I was only given two bottles of each. Now the problem is that I was traveling with a family of four and two bottles just wasn't enough. The next day I asked for more and was given the same amount of shampoos and was said "that's all we have" and that "if I wanted service you should not have put the 'do not disturb' sign" are you serious? First of all, I go to other hotels and they give you the amount of shampoos you ask for with out any excuses and second the price for this hotel room was very expensive for me not to put up a 'DND', some people just don't want to be disturbed and prefer not to get service at that time. What later on happened was quite a surprise because when we came back to the hotel room we could not open the door. They changed the lock keys on us while we were away. The reason was technically that we didn't pay for the valet parking when in reality we did pay for it. To make this short when we arrived we paid for valet parking and we decided we wanted to stay an extra day in this hotel since everything was booked. We paid to stay an extra night and that was that. What they didn't tell us is that we also had to pay an extra day for valet parking even though we did pay when we arrived. Instead of adding it onto your bill automatically they disconnect your hotel key to make you do the walk of shame back to the lobby. That is insulting for the costumer and just not right. I felt terrible when I could not open my hotel room. They said they called us from the room but no one answered. That is a weak excuse since they ask you for your phone number information as well. They still want to bribe you onto thinking it was ok by giving you a "free" coffee. Well forget the coffee what about treating the hotel guest with respect. I give it one star for location but that is it. I bet you can find a friendlier...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel in November for an event in Chicago. We arrived almost two hours before our event. When we got to the hotel, the staff gave us our room keys and we went up to the room. Our room key did not work. We tried multiple times before finally walking back downstairs and politely asking for new room keys. The woman at the front desk informed us that the keys were correct and that we should try the room again. After about 10 more minutes, she gave us new keys for the room. We went back upstairs and the keys worked. However, upon entering the room, it was very clear that it had not been cleaned. Trash covered the bedroom floor, there were dirty coffee cups everywhere, the trash bin was upside down, and the sheets were ripped off the bed and strewn on the floor. Once we walked further in, we saw the bathroom was a mess as well. There was hair all over the sink and toilet, more coffee cups all over the floor, and dirty towels everywhere as well. By this point we were in danger of running late to our event. We called down to the front desk and asked if someone could please come clean the room. However, the front desk staff informed us we needed to come back downstairs. We went back down and waited for about 10 minutes before being given new room keys. We made it back upstairs to a different room that smelled of smoke, but was clean at least. No where in this did we receive even the slightest apology. The front desk staff was rude when we called down to mention that the first room was a disaster. By the time we made it to the second room and dropped our bags off, we were late to our event. We missed the entire first hour of the event despite arriving two hours early to the hotel. I have tried to contact the Inn of Chicago THREE times, however, I have not received any response. I will not stay in this hotel ever again and have actively gone out of my way to mention the situation to friends, family, and coworkers. I understand that mistakes happen and sometimes a room may be missed by the cleaning crew. However, what I am upset about is the lack of apology and blatant ignoring of my attempts to contact the hotel...
Read moreI am being generous with 3 stars, as I had originally wanted to only give 2. I don't feel 2 is fair for an overall review, but certainly for some aspects.
I will start by saying that the room was clean, bathroom was clean, bedding was clean and in good repair. And I say this as a minimum, meaning we were comfortable staying there from a cleanliness standpoint. But beyond that, the room was largely disappointing. The description was "in recent years the property has been completely renovated, rebuilt, revamped and reincarnated. The Inn of Chicago Magnificent Mile is now a contemporary, modern destination hotel for leisure and business travelers alike". Yes, the lobby is nicely renovated, modern, and relatively contemporary. But, once you get on the shabby elevators (I understand you cant build larger elevators in an old building, but there could certainly be a lot more done to rehab the interior), and come to your floor, you realize that you are not in the same contemporary space. We were on the 11th floor. The carpet in the hallway was in significant disrepair, stained, and wrinkled off the floor. Once in the room, you are in a hotel room like any holiday inn or local motel. Decor is 90's, carpet is also in generally poor condition, furniture is cheap and very dated, and there is really no hint of contemporary decor. To put this in perspective, we stayed at the Kinzie 2 years ago (I have no connection in any way to them), and my wife and I were wowed by how very nice it was there. Truly modern and contemporary (and, we payed well less than 50% of what we paid at the Inn of Chicago). Oh, and the literature states that the beds are all pillowtop beds, however ours was definitely not.
Now, the location is very central, especially if you are interested in the Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier, or generally any downtown attraction, as it is located nearly in the center of it all. Everyone we dealt with was also very courteous, professional, and kind. This was definitely an adequate place to stay, but do not expect recently renovated and contemporary, as it...
