The Escape Game Chicago — Attraction in Chicago

EDIT - very shortly after I posted my original review I heard from the manager, Brandon. I missed his call but was able to connect about an hour later even though he was no longer on shift. He was very apologetic and interested in hearing about my experience to see where they may need to improve. He also went above and beyond to make the situation right, inviting us back to play a game on them. We took him up on the offer and had a great time in The Heist, with the staff being very personable and engaging. Though Brandon wasn't able to be there himself, he followed up with me after to ensure that we had a great experience. Overall we felt that he genuinely cares about the store, the customer experience, and is super passionate about the games! Thanks to Brandon and his team, we were very happy with our overall experience at The Escape Game and look forward to trying games at other locations.

3.5 stars - Our group of 4 booked Prison Break for a Sunday afternoon and had a blast. We escaped and had fun doing it; along with a little help from our amazing guide Julie. After we escaped, Julie was super sweet and offered to walk us through any puzzles and take photos of us. We liked it so much that we took advantage of the re-booking discount and booked Mission Mars for later that same day. the person at the front desk (I think Cody or Coby?) was so helpful with this and just generally nice to chat with!

However, when we came back just a few hours later to start mission mars, the experience was like night and day. We were about 4-5 mins behind so we were hurried into the room. We still got the full 60 minutes and got close but ultimately did not escape. The puzzles in Mars were just not as fun and the hints we were given were not very helpful :( At the end we were offered a photo but no explanations for any of the puzzles (we had questions about a few). In general the night crew staff vibe was super different, way less friendly/personable which was a huge let down after such a great experience just...

We had game master Michael for Mars and a woman (sorry I can’t remember her name!) for The Heist. Both game masters and games were INCREDIBLE. I won’t give away secrets but both rooms were full of surprises and unexpected events (totally different clever puzzles and clue types too!) Clues are unlimited and when we needed help from the game master, we liked that the hints we received weren’t just total giveaways. We still had to think which made us feel like we were at least still accomplishing things mostly on our own. ;) The rooms aren’t just tiny little spaces either like we have had at previous escape rooms. Really impressive! Just know that these are not private rooms (which you do know when booking online) and strangers are free to join your game right up until start time which happened to us on our 2nd reserved game. We had our 8 year old with us (both games were totally awesome and appropriate for a kid btw) and we preferably didn’t want to share the experience with another woman and two kids when they strolled in and decided that sharing a room with us was better than waiting a few minutes for their own private different game…. so we asked the nice gentleman working up front if he could switch us to another room that wasn’t in use and he was so kind to allow us the opportunity to make those memories as a family instead of with strangers. We appreciated that so much! The Heist was honestly one of my last choices in rooms but it ended up being my favorite of the 2 we tried (which is saying something because the Mars room was EXTREMELY cool)! An Unforgettable Escape Room Experience – Mars Mission

From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere set the tone for something extraordinary. The staff were warm, welcoming, and clearly passionate about what they do. Everything felt smooth, organized, and well-prepared, so all we had to do was bring our best energy and dive into the challenge.

We chose the Mars Mission room, and I can honestly say it was one of the most immersive and exhilarating experiences I’ve had in any escape room. The set design was spectacular — every detail made us feel like we had actually boarded a spacecraft bound for another planet. The puzzles struck a perfect balance of clever and challenging, pushing us to think critically, communicate, and collaborate as a team. Each solution flowed naturally into the next, and there was never a dull moment. It felt like a true adventure from start to finish.

Our gamemaster, Megan, deserves a special shoutout. She was phenomenal — enthusiastic, attentive, and incredibly supportive throughout the experience. Her energy added so much to the evening. It was clear she genuinely cared about making sure we had the best possible time, and she nailed it. Megan elevated the entire experience for us.

What stood out most was how seamless everything felt — the puzzles, the atmosphere, the guidance — all wrapped up into an experience that’s not just a game, but a memory we’ll be talking about for a long time.

If you’re even remotely considering booking an escape room, look no further. This place is a must. Mars Mission exceeded every expectation, and with staff like Megan leading the way, you know you’re in for an unforgettable adventure.
