The Last WaveThe Last Wave
I was traveling through Chicago and had experience some misfortune where a local on a greyhound stole some important documents from my luggage while I was away from it for merely 4 min and had decided to spend the night in Chicago so I can file a police complaint. I booked this hotel at 1030p and paid way more then I should had being it not lived up or owned up to what it is advertised to be. Upon check in the gentleman was pretty rude African American mid 50s and was just looking like he wanted to get rid of me and off to my room. He comment saying I got you the good room you going love it and first thing I checked in the room had some obvious problems the rug was slit open into a 6inch square like someone cut it out and to not be blame for this as they would be slick and say I did that ℹ instantly reported to front desk. The gentlemen didn’t even apologize and sent a mechanic up to my room as I requested one. The bathroom had a stain also like a rust circle about 3inch sphere. Then I came down to the bar and I bought my second cocktail as I was already fed up with the nonsense. As I order my cocktail the gentle bald head was serving me and then I ask the time he open til and told me actually is last CALL so since I wanted to have a booze for later I added a modelo beer which he long story short never gave me but charged me for it. I remember telling him to keep it in the fridge and give me it when he finally is about to close it but he never did and me having lots of things on my mind kind of forgot to remind him and I left without it. Next day Weds May 15th I go and ask him as he started his shift after 4p about the night before that he not given me the beer and he instantly gave me attitude and crazy thing is I tipped him well along with his bar back Spanish guy who was there that initial night. No manger on duty that day call out sick and no one there to make it right as all hotels core value and goal is to make the guest experience as pleasant but this was far from one. I say this not to tarnish the property but avoid staying here the low price and all being said is beyond not worth it. So many other options in the downtown area of Chicago I personally wouldn’t stay for free.

Important as a preface --- I've stayed at a Warwick hotel before (Dallas, TX, USA). There: the location, staff+service, and cleanliness+aesthetics were a 5/5. Because of this experience, I decided to select another Warwick hotel for my visit to Chicago during Lollapalooza 2025; Warwick - Allerton.

This hotel's location (Warwick - Allerton) is superb; 5/5. It intersects with the main street Michigan, being a few feet to bus stops for easy commuting via CTA bus lines, and within the range of retail businesses for shopping and fun attractions (i.e., H&M, Harry Potter, 360 Chicago).

The hotel staff at Warwick - Allerton, however, is first and foremost unprofessional: (A). They unprovokingly use foul language and raise their voice directly and indirectly at visitors when we (e.g., myself and others) inquire about information regarding hotel services. The hotel staff swear and drop F-bombs in front of visitors/guests, to name one of a few unprofessional behavior I've encountered. I can understand how overwhelming tasks can become when there are so many things to address, but I cannot understand why that should permit someone to berate another person who did nothing to provoke a situation to begin with. Especially a guest who is simply seeking clarity regarding the hotel's breakfast or bellman storage services, for example.

(B). At the start of my stay, I was also missing a basic toiletry essential that is universally complimentary in every hotel I've been at --- a bar of soap. I called the line for Housekeeping several times, including the line for Reception, but I was always put on hold by someone on the other end with no reason and follow-up (the response was always "please hold"). After being put on hold multiple times, I came down later to physically request a bar of soap, but no one was at the front reception and no one returned after 10 minutes of waiting. I tried the same steps the following day, but ended up with the same outcome. I eventually just used the complimentary body wash as hand soap.

(C). When the Reception desk is staffed, the staff at the front is able to fulfill our needs (i.e., providing water bottles when requested), but asking simple questions regarding our $180 deposit (for instance), was met with a curt and unprofessional tone in voice.

Together with (A), (B), and (C), the staff+service here is a 1/5.

The hotel itself, in respect to cleanliness, is far from superb, relative to the Warwick location I've stayed at (Dallas, TX, USA). The hotel hallways here at Warwick - Allerton, including my assigned room, has a "dank" odor that smells foul. Fortunately (I suppose), this odor was not as strong inside my room, but it was still present. The odor didn't make me sick, but it wasn't pleasant to smell. My room itself was reasonably clean, however the bedsheets felt very starchy and the carpeting was visibly dirty. The decor and amenities were also poor, as other reviewers pointed out (e.g., the room looks nothing like the photos presented on their website, and the TV doesn't work well). Together, the cleanliness+aesthetics of this hotel is therefore a 2/5.

As a whole, unless you only care about the location of your stay, I don't recommend this hotel. Also, if you are to book this hotel, especially for an event like Lollapalooza, do so early so you're not charged significantly more than they usually charge (i.e., approximately $250/night during Lollapalooza, versus $80/night not during...

Very poor service. Never stay here! This is not a 4 star hotel. In the USA, we stayed in 8 hotels during this trip, Warwick was the worst.

We arrived at the hotel at night. We received the keys, went to the room. In our room there was a door (apparently to the next room). We pushed the door - it turned out to be not closed. In the other room there was another person!! And there were no locks on the door on our side! This is terrible and very unsafe! How could we sleep with an open door to the neighbouring room?

We went to the reception. At the reception receptionist (African American man) offered to call an engineer. I said that it is already 1.30 am and we want to sleep, so we asked for a new and isolated room. An unfriendly (even rude!) man at the reception claimed that there were no rooms. After arguing, the room was magically found.

We went up to the room. The door card didn’t work. We went to the reception. At the reception, the same unfriendly man said that "he does not know what we did with the card, the card worked." So I suggested him going up with us and check that. He refused, and again after arguing he gave us a card.

The overall impression is that the receptionist is rude and unfriendly, in the end he even said that we are being annoying. But my God, we just wanted to sleep late at night, and it took over an hour to check into this hotel!!

For some reason the entire staff is unfriendly (it's striking in contrast to other hotels). Guys, simple friendliness works wonders. We don't want to come back to your hotel anymore.

Every day two complimentary bottles of water should be provided per room. But for some reason, they don't put them in the room. You have to ask for them at the reception, but how could your guests know that if you don’t tell? found out that there is water completely by accident. Again, this is not very good service - the hotel should have water. If you don't want to put bottles, then put a cooler in the lobby! Also, the hotel doesn't even have tea. Are you sure it's a four-star hotel?

The hotel is old, so everything in the rooms is quite old. The carpet is soo dirty😥

For sure we will not return to this hotel and will not recommend it to anyone. The customer service...
