This place is a dimond in the ruff. Yes, its next to a walmart and some see this as bad. But I'm seeing more and more hotels popping up next to Walmart's and even next to nothing. The hotels are building in spots that haven't been fully developed yet and that's no different here. Now as far as the hotel goes I was impressed. I called on thursday to get a room. I had mentioned I would need a rollaway. And would have a disabled person with me. The girl on the phone took time to answer all my questions. When I showed up friday night the guy at the desk was very quiet but he surprised me with his helpfulness. I told him I'll need a seat for the tub. He just blankly looked at me and said "ok I can get you one". I figured I would get one in a hour or so. But I hadn't even finished getting everyone in the room and all the bags in when here he comes down the hall with my rollaway I forgot to remind them at check in that I needed, extra towels I also forgot to ask for because their was 5 of us in the room and the bath tub seat. Then a hour later I was down at the desk again cause they have the shampoo and conditioner attached to the wall and it was empty. The guy very nonchalantly said he will get me some. He calls housekeeping and then told me she will be at my room in a minute. This guy never gave any expression of concern or anything but obviously he cares about the customer and your needs, he just doesn't show it :) House keeping was nice also. When I got back to my room she was already there. She was very nice and smiling and gave me some other extra stuff I asked for. Ok, now breakfast. First they are serving hot and cold foods. Sausages, scrambled eggs and omelets. Pancakes and biscuit and gravy. Then all the cold stuff like fruit, yogurt, cereal and more. It wasn't bad for a free hotel breakfast. But let me tell you about the lady who ran the breakfast aria! She gets 5 stars. I have never seen such a happy, engaging, tentative person taking care of the breakfast aria before. Actually, I haven't even had one like her at the higher end hotels I've stayed at where I payed $30 for breakfast and you would think they would be like her. This lady didn't let anything run out. She knew what you wanted before you asked her. She was SO happy to be helping you. And when she wasn't tending to the food she was walking around the tables cleaning them and making small talk. The hotel its self looks remodeled in some places and others are still needing to be done. The non remodeled arias where off putting to me, but I still would stay there again when passing through thanks...
Read moreI travel with my job and my hotel of choice is IHG hotels. I was very disappointed with my stay here. I was staying due to visiting family in the area. On arrival, the grounds were littered and the grass had not been mowed and was unkempt. My room appeared clean at first glance but the air conditioner did not seem to be working well. When trying to figure out how to adjust the air, I noticed mildew growing on the vents of the air conditioner and the filter was very dirty. The sheets had appeared clean but had holes in them and stains on the sheets. The beds were very uncomfortable and woke up each morning with back hurting. The bath towels were stained and had holes in them. The wall beside the bathtub/shower had water damage and appeared to have mildew and possibly mold growing. There was mildew growing on the caulk around the tub. The flush handle on the toilet would stick and the toilet would not flush properly and would constantly run. There was a leak in the ceiling in the hallway at my room entrance. There was a mop bucket in the hall to collect the leaking water and we had to tell the staff to come empty it several times before it overflowed. The carpet outside my room was wet for the duration of my stay. The staff got upset because my grandchildren got cookies in the lobby. My grandchildren got one cookie and went back to get cookies for me and their mother and staff told them they could not have anymore because the had to have some for other guest and they did not need to be coming back in the lobby area. The kids were also told that guest were complaining about the noise they were making but there were no guest around. We were on the first floor, with only 5 guest rooms in that section and we had 2 of the rooms. We knew at that time there were no other guests on that end of the hall.
I will continue to stay at IHG locations, however, when I visit family in the area, I will not stay at this location. Overall, it is run down and needs to have maintenance work and upgrades made. This location does not meet the quality standards of IHG which I am an elite member. Very...
Read moreBelow is an email that I wrote to the front desk on 4/13/21. I never received a reply.
Dear Hotel Management,
I’d like to point out some problems that we had with our recent stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Childress, TX. We checked in Sunday 4/11/21, and checked out 4/12/21. We stayed in Room 225.
While I understand that there are necessary constrictions with Covid and with your current remodeling, we found our room to be unsatisfactory. We have stayed at this particular property twice a year for several years, and have never before encountered these problems.
There was no alarm clock in the room.
There were no hangers in the room.
While there was sufficient toilet paper (barely), there was no back up roll of TP.
There was a spider on the bathroom floor.
There was dark hair on one hand towel (we both have grey hair).
Part of the tub caulking has come loose.
Instead of the normal swivel, adjustable desk chair, there was a straight back chair that was too low for the desk.
I find it interesting that all other IHG rooms we’ve had in the past have had large TV screens, the screen in this room was a mere 31”.
Upon check-in the desk clerk told us that there would be a $10 charge to our credit card, which would be removed upon finding our room in satisfactory condition upon our departure. There wasn’t a charge on our statement, but I find it insulting that he had to say that to us.
My husband and I are wondering if this property is now catering to people who have a propensity to steal items from the rooms. It certainly doesn’t give us the sense of comfort and security that we are accustomed to with Holiday Inn Express hotels.
I am writing this email because I wasn’t sent the usual “Review your Stay” questionnaire, and thought that you might like to be aware of our issues.
As you can see, we have now received the questionnaire, but our feelings about this property are...
