My wife and I stayed at the Oaks Victorian Inn for a weekend get-away and absolutely love it! Shannon and John have done an amazing job with this beautiful historic home - paying great attention to fine details to make staying here beyond a pleasant experience. We were fortunate to get a tour, and each room is amazing and perfectly decorated. The room in which we stayed, the Julia Room, has a large bathroom area with a jet tub and shower, with plenty of room to easily get ready to go out. The bed was incredibly comfortable - and having a light breakfast brought to the room each morning just added to the great experience. My wife was most impressed with Shannon's baking skills - the food was delicious. I especially enjoyed the crafted iced coffee drinks!
Shannon and John clearly have a passion for ensuring guests have a wonderful time. They were welcoming and eager to go the extra mile to make the stay as enjoyable as possible. Having stayed right after they opened, they asked if there was anything else they could do to help improve the guest experience. My wife and I tried to come up with something - but we were at a total loss as to what to recommend as everything was fantastic!
Also noteworthy is that the Inn is just blocks away from a new brewery and the downtown area, which includes several restaurants. A short drive will get you to the mall area, and just a bit further and you are in downtown Blacksburg and on the Virginia Tech campus. The brewery is quite nice with a good selection of beer and hard seltzers, and my wife and I especially enjoyed going into Blacksburg on a Saturday morning and waking through the town and spending time at the Farmer's Market - which is one of the nicer Farmers Markets we have visited. We also had a wonderful dinner at The Farmhouse Restaurant, about a 10 minute drive form the Inn.
If you are visiting the area, my wife and I highly recommend you check out the Oaks...
Read moreWe stayed here while visiting a friend nearby and were incredibly impressed. The owners have done a beautiful job of restoring the lovely historic home and filling it with period accurate furniture.
They were extremely friendly, brought us drinks and homemade snacks after check-in, and when we went to leave to visit our friend an hour after arriving, we discovered our car battery had gone completely dead. The owner Jason offered a jump start, which didn't work. After checking in quickly with a mechanic friend about the specifics, he diagnosed a rare problem that could only be fixed by replacing the battery. It was after 8:30 on a Saturday night.
The owner Jason was SO kind, and offered to take my husband up the road to buy a replacement battery before the store closed at 9, and even gave hubby the tool he needed to install it. Jason went way above and beyond, and we got to our friend's place only 45 minutes late.
In the morning, a delicious breakfast was left outside our door for breakfast in bed at the exact time we requested, and it was a tray packed with coffee, tea, (fresh squeezed?) Orange juice, ice water, a delicious yogurt parfait with about 10 kinds of fruit and the MOST DELICIOUS homemade granola, fresh made pastries stuffed with scrambled eggs, sausage, and apple, and a big load of the most perfectly crisped bacon. It made for a delicious feast for two people who don't usually eat breakfast in the morning. This was no continental breakfast, it was a full homemade with care meal.
Our room was lovely and large, everything was so comfortable, and our hosts were delightful. If you're going to be in the area, I highly recommend...
Read moreDue a two-night micro vacation, I looked for a unique experience in the New River Valley in Virginia and found it at The Oaks Victorian Inn. My experience was beyond expectations. It was one of enchantment, charm, grace, and history. Everywhere my eyes wandered inside and outside the inn they took in beauty. The innkeepers, whom I met for the first time, were personable and welcoming from the moment I arrived until we parted. Among the surprises were flameless battery-operated candles with remote control, freshly baked banana bread in the room one night, and cookies the next. The attention of the innkeepers to details was exceptional. Once they knew I preferred Pellegrino over water, Pellegrino was put in The Julia, my fabulous room. I rested deeply in the ornate Victorian bed after relaxing in the two-person jetted tub by candlelight. Heavenly! The breakfast tantalized my taste buds. Among the delicious items were homemade blueberry scones and granola, coffee mocha, and a yogurt with fresh fruit combination. I had a choice to break the fast in my room, the dining room, or the porch. Enjoying it on the porch had the benefit of being able to listen to the chirps, croaks, and trills of a variety of birds and taking in the lusciousness of in full-bloom summer flowers. Another treat for the senses was being able to watch a spectacular sunset from an upstairs deck and an almost rising full moon within the same timeframe. Gorgeous! The vision of the innkeepers is, "...to create a memorable stay with five-star service, high-end amenities, surrounded by history." I have experienced their vision and will return...
