My four day stay at The Ellwanger Estate with the fabulous Host, Rosemary Janofsky, Innkeeper/Owner was beyond my expectations. Every detail from the greetings online, at the door upon arrival, and the tour of the house made me feel welcome. The pristine bedding and bed were perfect for a restful night after a busy day! I can't forget to mention the home and room's fine antiques, and art reminded me to think about Rochester's history. The wall murals in the bedroom I stayed in made me feel like I was in Scotland. Each morning the breakfasts were unique and outstanding with fruit plate to start, a tasty prepared main course and baked good or a simpler breakfast could be presented. I also truly loved seeing the wildlife greeting me when I arrived or departed; rabbits, a doe and a buck and a groundhog. The garden was delightful to stroll in the morning before leaving for the day. I will be back!

We rented out the entire estate for our wedding weekend (four rooms) so that I could stay there with my mother and close friends while my future wife was with her friends. Then we spent our wedding night together in the Woodland Suite. This was the perfect location for first look photos. We really enjoyed our stay, along with Rosemary's attention to dietary restrictions, amazing meals and hospitality, and flexibility with our schedule when guests missed flights and got stuck. Honesty, this stay was much better for our purposes than any of the very expensive hotels in the area would have been. I have attached some photos to show how lovely the space is for first look or wedding photos. Also, to credit our wonderful photographer for these photos: Jacqueline Connor Photography in Buffalo.

I had never stayed at a bed and breakfast and wasn't sure what to expect, but every part was lovely. Rosemary was extremely accomodating to my early check-in time, and while working in my room I was able to get coffee and fresh cookies/fruit as a snack. Both breakfast meals were delicious and such a treat. I ended up picking out a book in the library and I spent each night in the great room downstairs reading (and finished the book right before heading to the airport). Rosemary and her staff were absolutely lovely. I can't recommend the place highly enough. Just a short walk to Mt. Hope Cemetary, the Genessee river trail, or College Town. I was also in town for the Lilac Festival which is extremely close by.

My now husband and I contacted Rosemary to book an elopement package. From the first time we walked in to discuss our plans and to the time we checked out, the whole process was flawless. Rosemary made our special day, which typically is always full of anxiety and last minute “did we do this” relaxing and carefree. My bridesmaids were surprised I wasn’t tightly wound. That was all thanks to Rosemary. She had the cake situated, bouquet and boutonnière ready, etc, she asked us a bunch of questions that just made everything go smoothly. We also got to spend two night there and it was nice to be able to just relax. In the morning she made us breakfast and the patience and precision she takes to prepare the food is astounding. Even if you are just looking for a historic place to spend a few nights, relax, and walk the gardens, I highly recommend. She also has a very handsome and friendly cat, maybe you’ll be lucky enough to spot him. I will definitely be looking to spend the majority of our...

I had the pleasure of staying in such a elegant home. I felt more like a house guest of a long time friend. So much more than a hotel stay. With beautiful gardens to roam and elegant bed rooms with sitting areas. We stayed here for a weekend to go to a Harley School reunion. I sat in the evening on a beautiful porch enjoying tea and it felt like being in a far off vacation place. But I was close to downtown Rochester and you would never know except the for the cars on the street going by like a far off river. I will always plan to stay here when visiting Rochester. Did I forget to mention the fresh morning coffee and three course breakfast with Rosemary’s own chicken eggs from chickens living on the estate. I will now look for bed and breakfasts stays for all my upcoming trips. A hotel is so sterile...
