I had the unfortunate opportunity to stay at the InterContinental Hotel in Cleveland, and I must say that my experience left me severely disappointed. Despite paying a premium for what was supposed to be a four-star hotel, the overall quality I encountered was far from it. In fact, it felt more like a one-star establishment. Allow me to share the numerous issues I encountered during my stay.
First and foremost, the initial room I was assigned was simply unacceptable. Upon entering, I was greeted by stains, mold, and to my utter disgust, a random sock left behind by a previous guest. This lack of cleanliness and attention to detail was deeply off-putting and set the tone for the rest of my stay. I promptly requested a room change, hoping that this was just an isolated incident.
Unfortunately, the second room didn't fare much better. The sheets were visibly dirty, leaving me questioning the hotel's commitment to basic cleanliness. To add insult to injury, the overall state of the rooms was outdated, lacking any semblance of modernity or comfort. It was evident that the hotel had neglected investing in necessary upgrades and maintenance.
Beyond the physical condition of the rooms, the hotel as a whole lacked a pleasant ambiance or vibe. I had hoped to celebrate my son's birthday in a memorable setting, but the InterContinental Hotel failed to deliver on this front. The experience fell far short of what I had envisioned, leaving me with a sense of regret and disappointment.
While it is possible that other rooms in the hotel may be in better condition, I can only provide feedback based on my personal experience on the 5th floor. Given the numerous issues encountered, I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a pleasant and comfortable stay in Cleveland.
However, I must express my gratitude to the front desk staff for providing us with extra sheets to change our bedding. Their assistance was one of the few redeeming aspects of an otherwise lackluster experience.
To further emphasize the hotel's lack of attention to cleanliness, I found a towel with a noticeable stain. This further highlighted the disregard for quality control and guest satisfaction.
In conclusion, my stay at the InterContinental Hotel in Cleveland was a disappointing and regrettable experience. From the initial room filled with stains, mold, and a random sock to the subsequent room with dirty sheets, the overall quality and upkeep of the hotel fell far below the standards expected of a four-star establishment. With outdated rooms and a lack of positive ambiance, it failed to provide the experience we had hoped for, especially on such a special occasion. Unless significant improvements are made, I strongly advise against choosing this hotel...
Read moreIt pains me to write less than a 5-star review, but my recent experience fell short of prior stays.
The first room I was given had a broken window latch which prevented the window from closing fully. This created noise and temperature issue as traffic and sirens were audible and the outside temperature was 32 degrees. The latch handle was completely broken off and merely set on the sill over the latch. When I went down to alert the front desk and ask for another room, the front desk clerk told me the property was fully booked, but they’d send someone from maintenance to close the window. I went to my room to await maintenance and jumped online to see if they were still selling my room. Sure enough, the website showed 2 comparable rooms available. I knew the issue wouldn’t be a quick fix as the assembly on the window latch was completely broken. Maintenance confirmed this and I went back to the front desk to, again, ask for a different room. (Robert in maintenance was very helpful and called down to the manager, as well). After much to-do another room was provided.
The next room was comparable in layout and appointments, but the sink faucet handles were mis-aligned and it took some tweaking to get the water turned off. The commode handle frequently stuck creating running water in the commode.
The next morning I attempted to brew coffee in the in-room coffee maker. Both coffee cups were dirty with one having oatmeal residue. I alerted housekeeping in the hallway and was given new cups, but frankly, if the coffee cups weren’t cleaned, I had to wonder what else was overlooked?
The in-room blow dryer shut down frequently, necessitating a replacement from housekeeping.
Don’t know if the hotel runs at full-capacity so much that routine maintenance is back-burnered, but my stay there was certainly sub-par to...

There seemed to be quite a few hiccups with us, though. (1) I had requested extra pillows (and for foam pillows rather than down pillows) at the time of booking. (2) I had texted the automated system to ask for two extra pillows since we didn't get extra pillows as requested. (3) all of our pillows were down pillows which we just went ahead and used, but would have preferred foam pillows since they don't squish down to flat and the first knock at the door was with a gentleman trying to give us a rollaway bed. I explained we were waiting on pillows, so he gave us the one pillow that he had with him, then took away the rolling bed and returned to the room later with the other pillow. (4) then we got a phonecall from the desk saying that maintenance needed to come to our room. He showed up looking for a "light that was out of order" and we were confused since we didn't report anything like that so we sent him away. He was confused too! and (5) the mattress - which appeared to be super clean, and maybe even NEW was surprisingly super uncomfortable. Hubby and I both felt like we slept on the floor. (6) the next morning at checkout when we went to request our truck from the valet, they couldn't find our keys. Our valet tag didn't match up with their system....so eventually my husband had to walk back behind the valet counter - look through all of the keys hanging up - and show them which set of keys belonged to our truck.
None of the above were horrific events - but the sheer amount of hiccups was almost comical at some point of our stay.
We were just happy to get our vehicle...
