Comfort in Colby Kansas ~ Nice hotel. Fabulous staff. But safety issue with Hotel window. 😬
I wasn't sure if I would make it driving that far so I didn't book ahead...7 hotels- No Vacancy. So I had to pay $207 to stay at the Comfort Inn for pet friendly hotel.
The man at the front desk was super nice. They have Bell carts to bring bags to your room. Pool is open 24/7 so even though we checked in super late we still got to go get in the hot tub which I really appreciated. The room was really clean- the floor was Immaculate! *Housekeeping did a great job on that.
*The reason for my 4 stars is it took me almost 30 minutes to be able to take a shower once I got in the room and I was EXHAUSTED. I could not figure out how to turn the shower on. *There was no one at the front desk so I had to wait that long. It's a weird doohickey on the faucet for the tub that you pull. Never seen that in my life.
The biggest problem I had was I paid $207 for this room and that was out of my budget (moving-6 hotels) and I never pay that much for a room. I have all sort of discount cards. I was told the rates were high that's normal price in the summer. The vacancy issue was pretty normal for Colby Kansas in summer,
The biggest issue: I went to close the curtains, outside of our room was a big field and then a truck stop. There was one of those cheap $ type locks (where you just put the little clamp on the window trim and then you twist it to lock it?) Yeah that was sitting about a foot to the left🤯
I pulled the window open to the lock. -to check it, basically it was enough space that an adult human could have opened the window and climbed through. but when I got the window over to where the lock was sitting on the trim- it wasn't even secured on the trim!
So you could pull the window ALL the way open! If I hadn't gone over to mess with the curtains I wouldn't have known that the window was unlocked and you could FULLY open it! Idk but for $207 I definitely expect a more safe and secure room than this.
Who thinks to check the windows at every Hotel they check into? I know I don't There's an expectation that you'll be safe and that the windows are secure- so that was pretty bad. 👎especially in Choice hotels.
Again not what you expect for $200. When I told the man at the front desk I wanted a refund for these issues he said I'm not authorized to do that. *They have since refunded me the full amount. I am very greatful to the manager for this.
1/2 hr wait for a shower windows that were not secure
But the hotel was nice otherwise, the staff was fabulous, friendly, attentive and accommodating....
Read moreThis hotel is very run down. They are building a new comfort inn nearby and are letting this one go downhill. We knew many people staying here and most had complaints. Some had issues with their ac. Others showers would not drain. The breakfast room was Hot! Seemed to have ac issues there too. If you stay here- try to get an upstairs room. Our upstairs “neighbors “ got walked and stomped non stop for 50 minutes starting at 6 am the first night we were there. Then shortly after the maid started banging carts and talking loudly just outside our room (we were unfortunately right next to their supply run) this went on and on both above us and on our floor. I did go talk to the front desk about the upstairs noise at about 6:30 am. I asked to be moved if that family was going to stay again. We were told they were not- but the next morning was bad too- but it started a little later at least and was not as bad. We could hear every creak and footstep upstairs. But the ones above us must have been exercising or something because it was non stop for nearly an hour. Front desk did not care. I heard another couple complaining about the noisy cleaning staff as they were checking out. Some of the cleaning staff started playing music in the halls around 7:45 am. We stay in Colby this time every year for an event. We normally stay in a different local hotel, but decided to try comfort inn this year. That was a mistake. We would absolutely not choose this hotel again. We actually reserved a suite. It was so tired and worn. The room smelled like old smoke and mold. The furniture is pretty beat up. The tv remote did not work. Breakfast was very basic. It consisted of eggs, sausage and waffles. I think there was bread maybe for toast and some cereal. There was no oatmeal or biscuits and gravy or any other warm items that are often served at hotels. No pastries. Our second morning we decided to go buy breakfast elsewhere instead. I rarely complain about my hotels. But this one...
Read moreThe whole experience was a nightmare. I booked through the comfort inn reservation center. It took 45 minutes for the reservationist to book the rooms I wanted. It was simple: I needed 1 double queen for 3 nights with a Roll-away, another double queen for 2 nights, and a king room for 2 nights. Each time he asked me with the wrong information, he put the info on the reservation site, so that by the time he finally got it right, I had 6 email reservations. I called closer to our stay to confirm, and the Colby Comfort Inn employee said we only had a one night reservation for each room, with 3 roll-aways. They said I should have booked through them (which I thought I was doing), and that even though it wasn't booked "the way she would have booked it", that nevertheless it included all the reservations. This discussion was repeated at check-in, then that evening again, and each subsequent day during our stay. The room we booked for 3 nights did not get cool enough, so our family moved to another room, and we promptly were billed again for that room at 6 am the next morning, according to our credit card statement (that looked like we were double-billed, but ended up getting straightened out in the end). When my husband went to the desk to report this they said they were not authorized to remove anything from our bill, that we would have to come back at 2 when the manager was present , even though this was during our Mother's 90th birthday party where there were old neighbors, family, and friends that we had not seen for 20-45 years. My Mother ended up paying for our rooms, which were exorbantly priced, and in her 90 year old brain, she wrote on the check memo "Bates Motel". This described our...
