Of all the public/private libraries in the country I have visited this one is the worst and it’s not even close. The first two associates my children and I interacted with could not be bothered to help us. We were never greeted or welcomed (I did eventually find a librarian who was willing to help and I very much appreciated her). They have archaic policies about who can access the library, which leads me to my next critique; there are no children who visit this library. Libraries are already becoming relics due to the internet and AI, so why not be more welcoming and encouraging to families to bring in their children throughout the week? I’ve not seen a library this sad before. It even smells sad…and of mildew. What percentage of the Collierville Shelby taxpayers actually patronize this place? I would say less than 1%. Most libraries have no resident restrictions and they are thriving and better for it. Collierville Fayette residents must pay $35 to access this library apparently for fairness sake and also pay for audiobooks. In what world am i shelling out money for a library card or audio books I can get for free or buy outright? Is it about encouraging readers and education or is it about who has access and who doesn’t (Jim Crow is over)? As long as they are getting their government funding nothing will change. When it’s time to cut the fat this library will be the first to go. People should be careful how they treat others. Unfortunately, many occupations can and will be replaced by AI so make sure what you bring to the table will actually be missed. Again, not all of my interactions were bad the day I went but I was unlucky to meet two very elderly ladies who were shockingly rude to my daughter and then myself at the circulation desk. The lady working the children’s desk was helpful and knowledgeable. I paid to be there, at this public library, so...
Read moreThe Collierville library is an exceptional resource, offering a diverse array of services from an ever-updated new book section to various educational programs. My children both use the library regularly and there is a good selection of books in that section. I like that they have the Economist and the FT Weekend edition in the periodical room. The library's ambiance is serene and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for unwinding and delving into a good read. The staff are consistently friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable. It's a staple of the community that I...
