I haven't lived in the area for almost 30 years and every time I visit, I always stay with family but wanted a place to be able to decompress from, well life, and took a suggestion from my parents to stay here. Was a little apprehensive about it, but have had nothing but a good experience.
I have a standard King room, there is a microwave, mini fridge, desk, iron and Ironing board, phone, alarm clock, hair dryer, coffee maker and ice bucket in-room. The TV has 2 hdmi and 1 usb port if you wanted to connect anything. They also make it very easy to log into your personal Netflix account and it will eventually log you out so you know it won't be continuously used later if you forget. Each bedside lamp has a power outlet. There are no USB connects on them, so you'll still need a box, but charging is quite accessible. There are no signs of bedbugs or any other pest issues and I'm always weird about temps because I like a room at around 68F and.... that's actually what it was set to before I even showed up.
There is an indoor pool, gym, outdoor grill, laundry room and computer station with printer available on premises. You're within walking distance of fast food, Hooligan burger, walmart, and just across the main road, you've got a dollar tree (for anything you may have forgotten, like my toothbrush), a steak house, and medical clinic, (lord forbid you need it).
I've read other reviews and saw complaints about cleanliness and although that wasn't my immediate experience, there are some spots on the carpet in front of the fridge. I honestly didn't even notice them until I went to take pics of the room and they showed up on the camera, though.
There is shampoo, conditioner and lotions available in the bathroom in squeezable containers which, as someone with very thick hair, was a good thing as the tiny little bottles you normally find are never enough. There are no bath robes, but I brought my own anyway so wasn't a big deal.
Breakfast. Y'all, seriously. I have rarely ever been awake and moving enough for breakfast because I am used to a 2nd shift schedule and waking up early for some cereal isn't worth it. But this place advertises and delivers on some breakfast. I'm only sad that they offer so much that 3-4 days stay isn't enough for me to get through it all. It has some standard items, but every day varies a small amount and I've been setting an alarm to go down every day even if I have to bring it back to my room and finish it later. Every day, you have biscuits and gravy, bagels, danishes, pancakes, waffles, fruits and cereal and the rest changes up. One day it's fried eggs, the next scrambled. One day it's sausages, the next bacon, but there's always plenty and you should absolutely go down and get you some.
I grew up a 1/2 mile away from here and I want to dislike it so badly because the growth of this area is cutting into the beautiful area I grew up with, but I just can't because it's been a great stay. For rates, I can see folks thinking it's too expensive but as someone who has traveled extensively, even internationally, the rates are pretty standard.
If I was forced to come up with a complaint, it would be a stretch, but I'd have to say that the amount of business doesn't warrant having multiple employees on the front desk 24/7. I wanted to extend my stay by an extra day and I showed up right as the employee had walked away to the bathroom. So I had to wait a couple of minutes for her rerurn. The other employees were so apologetic and even followed the employee into the bathroom to tell her to hurry up which I felt bad about. The extension was no problem and they were clear about the rate and processed it very quickly. Cheryl and Tody were wonderful although I didn't catch the names of the other employees I interacted with and I'm only sorry about that because I can't call them out by name. If you're looking for 5 star, no issues, middle of a big city type accommodations, maybe you won't like it. But coming from a mid sized city, 10/10, would recommend and will stay...
Read moreI have previously given this hotel 5* ratings. Unfortunately, while the front desk is excellent, the rooms are clean and the breakfast is pretty good, the hotel is now under new management. ||The new manager is not familiar with or chooses to ignore the benefits earned by elite members. He will accommodate requests for an additional charge. ||It’s still probably a decent place if you’re a family but if you are a business person who might need a room upgrade or late checkout, expect it to be available - for an additional charge. ||Also, don’t count on the manager to address anything in person. He’s apparently very busy. He walked right past me even though I had asked to speak to with him prior to my departure. ||It is a shame for this to be the new face to a mid priced hotel that in previously been one of the most welcoming places along my business journeys. ||We may still stay there at times due to the other factors. The staff is still top notch. But our company will be looking for other options where repeat elite level customers are more appreciated by the management and the Choice hotels loyalty program is both understood and honored. ||The only reason this wasn’t a one star review is that the front desk staff did everything possible to be flexible and accommodating but were disabled by management. ||A big shout out and thank you to the front desk (Sadie), I understand you hadn’t worked there long and you went above and beyond. Most of the front desk staff is equally accommodating. ||Sadly, with this type of management we believe it will be difficult to keep quality of employee and May see this faculty take a dramatic turn for the worse. ||As a company, we will always patronize facilities that do everything they can to accommodate their customers rather than those who merely do the minimum that is necessary. ||Finally, buyer beware. A call to Choice hotels with a concern by their “Elite” customers is simply met with “Sorry you had a problem. We will let the manager know.” Well, obviously - that was the problem and is a poor reflection...
Read moreI slept well there. The people at the front desk were welcoming. I was pleased with the accommodations of my room. I would have given a higher rating, however there are a few things that I would like to give feedback on.
I think that it is not fair that the price quoted at the front desk is almost twice as much as the price listed online. I think the prices at the front desk should be comparable to the online booking prices.
The shower door did not latch shut in my suite. Room number 201. This caused the door to stay open slightly and water from the shower leaked onto the floor. I had to use about 3 towels to soak up the water. This put a damper on my stay there.
I was disappointed with the overall quality of the breakfast. Overall all the prepared/cooked foods were too salty. The eggs seemed to be a mix and not freshly beaten. The potatoes were over-seasoned. I recommend having unseasoned potatoes. The country ham was too salty. There is a way of boiling country ham to remove salt before cooking it. I recommend this. The biscuits were too salty.
This overly salty breakfast led to me drinking more water and then I had to pee frequently throughout the day. My suggestion is to use minimal salt in the prepared foods.
Also, it would be nice to have more fresh...
