If you're looking for a slightly less expensive place to stay that is close to the Ohio Expo Center and you're not picky about the quality of your accommodations, you'll likely be satisfied with Comfort Suites on Clara St. in Columbus. My friends stayed last year and said there have been several updates and everything from the lobby to the hallways and rooms have been updated in some way, which they were happy about. From a first timer's perspective there is a lot of room for improvement. ||I arrived shortly after 9 p.m. and my friends had already been there for one night. I pulled out the sofa sleeper to find 1/3 of a waffle, crumbs, and three wrappers from various food packages on the floor under the pull out portion of the sofa sleeper. That was bad enough, but when I unfolded the bed, the mattress pad was freshly stained with something orange making it look like kids used the mattress pad as a napkin after eating Cheetos as well as a purple stain that still had texture to it because the mattress pad hadn't been washed. I was further grossed out when I noticed that there were crumbs all over the mattress pad. I stripped it off and was going to take it to the front desk to get another when I saw that the entire mattress was covered in crumbs. It was, for lack of a better work, disgusting. We brushed off the mattress with the dirty mattress pad and off I went to the front desk. ||To make a long story short, it took 15 minutes for the friendly, polite (meant sincerely) man at the front desk to ask me three times if my friends had used the sofa sleeper last night (which they hadn't because there were two of them and they had two beds, as I explained three times), to offer me a Gatorade or two waters, and to go and get a new mattress pad and comforter from a room perhaps 30 paces from the front desk. He came walking up with his arms overfull and put the large bundle into my hands and then asked if I could also carry the waters up. You'll see in the picture attached that I could not carry the waters at that time. ||While making the bed, we noticed holes in the comforter he gave me and that the sheets had been sewn where there were tears and there were spots where the dryer had burnt the sheets because they're made of cheap material and the dryer was set too high. I went back down for those 35 minutes later because he forgot to bring them up like he said he would. He gave me a Vitamin Water for my extra trouble of having to go back down for the water. The pull out couch was not, as expected, very comfortable and it's difficult to sleep on something that you know is dirty underneath you, but I lived. The toilet seat was cockeyed and peeling in spots and the tub was very slippery and a hazard for anyone who is unsteady on their feet. ||Breakfast in the morning was basic and appreciated. Dry cereal and microwave oatmeal, fresh mini-waffles (the best thing on the breakfast bar in my opinion, prepackaged pastries (likely the culprits of the garbage under the sofa sleeper), clementines, overripe bananas, sausage patties, eggs over hard, and assorted juices and tea and coffee were available and included with the price of the room. I admit that I won't stay in a place that has less than four stars on TripAdvisor, and this place could be a three or even four if they start cleaning properly and update some of the older components in the rooms/bathrooms and train their staff to go above and beyond with their guests. As is I give it a 2.5 but rounded up...
Read moreThe gentleman at the front desk was less than helpful. We wanted to swim in the pool and asked for towels, we were informed by him that there were no towels in the pool area just to use the ones from our room so we did. Later when the 6 of us wanted to take a shower there were no towels to dry off with because we had used the 4 we had in the room to go to the pool. So I went down and asked him for a few towels to take a shower with. He told me no new towels until housekeeping gets there in the morning! I asked if I could even have one towel, as the ones we used to dry after swimming smelled like chlorine. He said when housekeeping gets here. Okay no go so we used the spare t shirts we packed to dry off after a shower, so we could be clean after using the overly chlorinated pool, to go to my daughters graduation ceremony the next day. |Next dilemma came at bedtime when we realized that there were no sheets or blankets for the pull out couch in the drawer even though we had put it in the notes for our stay that we would be using it. So back to the desk we go, praying shift change had occurred, nope no shift change, same man. I asked him if we could please have a sheet and blankets for the pull out couch and a pillow if he had a spare. He told me I already gave them to you. I told him no you didn't, I need sheets and blankets at the bare minimum so my kids can go to bed. He sighed and stormed into the back room and came back 10 minutes later with sheets, blankets, and a pillow. He told us to have a nice night in the most condescending tone. Then at 3 am they slid my receipt under the door being loud enough to wake up my two kids sleeping on the pull out couch.| While getting doing a once over to get ready for checkout we realized that there was moldy food tucked between the night stand and the bed. So obviously the room wasn't cleaned very well. At check out it was once again the same man, I think he is the only one that runs the desk. Needless to say I don't think we will return. The beds were comfy and soft but not worth the hassle of a mediocre breakfast, and a man with a crappy attitude...
Read moreThis has been by far the worst hotel experience we've ever had.
This king suite was booked over 10 days in advance for my wife's birthday.
We walk in our room and it is absolutely freezing. The AC was set to 60 on full blast (we went in February, its 14 degrees outside). Trying to turn the TV on, remote wasn't working, had to go get a new one. My 2 year old daughter found an old French fry under the couch. Our bathtub was dirty. The soap dispensers were leaking.
We wanted to go swimming, walk in the pool area and that is even colder. It's like we were swimming outside in the 14 degree weather. The bathroom was out of order. The condition of the pool was unsettling to say the least. The photos show that there are names etched into the side of pool. It's not etched into the tile, it's etched into the film covering the tiles. That was disgusting. The ladder at the deep end was broken. The photos show the bottom two steps are broken on one side. That is not only unsafe, but it is against code, and subject to fines.
The soap dispenser in the men's lobby restroom was completely out of soap.
We wanted a late night snack. The display showed many candies and chips. The attendant told us he only had 3 or 4 items to pick from.
Wake up in the morning for breakfast which, at that point, was better than we expected. But the high chair for our daughter was disgusting. I picked it up from the corner and placed it by the service door. She picked it up and put it back in the corner, completely ignoring the fact that it was gross.
Then there's the issue with the doors. Some doors with card readers were not working, so it was not convenient to go in and out the door by the stairs. When I say they didnt work, they seemed to not have any power because it was not turning green or red. What I noticed later is that the doors don't even fully lock. So if you slightly pushed on the door it would just pop open. Completely unsafe.
We are absolutely never coming back to this hotel. The overall conditions and safety of this hotel are not only unsanitary, but they are unsafe...
