This may be the one of the “cheapest” options for "ski in, ski out" in crested butte but spend the extra to stay at the Elevation lodge for a better, more updated, EXTREMELY more comfortable, more honest, actual ski in ski out, stay. Let me let you in on exactly what you’ll be getting for this price point. Parking lot is first open parking lot on the mountain for hotel guests I think I’ve ever seen. Bring your own shovel to dig yourself out as the front desk will not be lending you theirs or helping you. The bed is soft, too soft. Like sleeping on a lacking old pillow. Could not get comfortable. Murphy bed funny enough is the hardest bed I’ve ever felt. We didn’t sleep on this one, but checked it out. I wouldn’t even let my kids sleep on something so stiff. Would be better to bring an air mattress at that point. Bathroom heat lamp needs to be on for a full 10-15 minutes prior to use unless you want to freeze to the toilet or start shaking after exiting the shower. That was annoying to ski all day and find no relief in a shower because the bathroom was freezing and the water was lukewarm at best. No AC in the summer (we stayed in winter so not an issue for us) but that’s a serious consideration that needs to be made when you’re here. The hot plate was the main reason we decided to stay here vs staying at the Elevation lodge. We decided we wanted to “eat in” for most of our meals to economise. Being the idiots we are we ended up spending almost exactly as much as if we had to just eaten out. Honestly last thing I want to do on vacation is the dishes. Personal lesson learned and if you’re trying to consider what you should do, you can always bring your own drinks and only get an entree at restaurants. Go into town for meals, we had lunch and breakfast in town and it was very good! There is a full stocked kitchen. If you love gossip, this is the place for you as you can hear what every single person in the room across, on each side and above you are doing at every hour. Loved waking up to the persons above me alarm in the morning and their dogs barking. This was one of my biggest gripes… the phone in the room did not work. I want to be able to contact the desk without going into one of the coldest halls and lounge areas I’ve ever been in. Spa desk needs to be maintained as I found empty beer cans in the desk and cobwebs in the corner. TV is regular cable tv, we brought our fire stick which was compatible. The carpet was covered in dog hair so if you’re allergic to dogs this is 1000% not the place for you. Towels smell like dog and are tough. There is NO sauna. It is a steam room. There is a difference that apparently no one understands? The pool that goes from the inside to the outside is warm, not hot and there’s a singular hot tub outside that is always full. If I am paying what I paid which was ~300 a night, I expect it to met a 300 a night standard. Regardless of it being a "great location" and at a ski resort. Money is still money and your is better spent at the Elevation, Friends who were at the Elevation told us the relaxation never stopped. Felt stupid going for a 50 a night cheaper spot to be so uncomfortable. There are TWO ski valets, one on the mountain on your left(facing man) in front of the Red ruby and Silver Queen lift and one at the hotel in the lobby drive through area. This one just holds your skis, it’s not a ski valet, it’s a ski locker with two attendants monitoring it. It’s not a long walk though, will give it that. Front desk was great for us and I can tell they’re making changes to be kinder and more helpful...
Read moreI’d give zero stars if I could. I was verbally abused by one of the managers here. The manager, Lauren, at the Grand Lodge Crested Butte was the most unprofessional, rude, inappropriate and disrespectful person I’ve ever had to deal with in any hospitality environment.
I called to inquire about several erroneous charges on my credit card after my stay at the Grand Lodge last weekend, and when I was told they were for pet fees that I was never made aware of when I booked and paid in advance over the phone and during check-in, I asked to speak to a manager to learn more. For the record, I’m fine paying the pet fees for both of the nights I stayed there, I was just annoyed that it was never called to my attention throughout the entire process. I felt like it was a hidden charge and it upset me that it wasn’t more clear, and that I was charged several times for it by mistake. So not only do I feel like I’ve been slightly swindled, but it’s also an administrative burden to have to monitor my credit card statement to ensure it’s reversed and call the hotel to investigate further.
When I was connected with Lauren, the hotel manager, she immediately started the call off on the wrong foot with an aggressive attitude. She never apologized for the overcharges, never apologized for her staff not being more clear, and hung up on me while I was in mid-sentence trying to have a conversation with her. I really hope that a company like Vail Resorts doesn’t endorse their employees, especially at the management level, to treat any guest like this. I then proceeded to call back several times so that I could continue my conversation with her and try to understand why I was abruptly hung up on, and she deliberately ignored all four calls. The fifth time I called (because I knew I was purposely being ignored and I do not understand how a business can operate like this, especially when calling the front desk of a hotel), she answered the phone yelling at me (not even a professional hello in case that was any other customer calling) and said that she would not tolerate speaking to me anymore and would not issue any refund (wasn’t asking for one at this point) and I needed to stop calling. Since when is calling the front desk to ask for help with your stay against your policy? Since when is management not willing to help a customer resolve an issue they had with their stay?
If someone could please contact me to address this matter I would greatly appreciate it. Again, I’m not looking for any kind of refund. I just want to know that as an Epic Pass holder and long time customer of Vail Resorts, that my opinion and experience matters. I will not sit quietly on this and will continue to escalate however I need to in order to get a response. I cannot emphasize enough how upsetting this experience has been and how floored I am as a customer that someone like that would be in a management position in the hospitality industry. I worked in the service industry and hospitality industry for many years, and I would never have treated anyone with the level of disrespect that I received just now. I am absolutely appalled at this...
Read moreFamily ski trip over spring break. I was skeptical prior to arrival given the negative reviews but this place worked out perfectly. As long as you book with your eyes wide open there will be no surprises. The ‘Grand Lodge’ was likely grand in the 1980s and is now a tired shadow of its former self. Yes, it is dated and run down but it served a purpose. Previous guests complained about the worn rooms. They are, but they are also warm and spacious. We stayed in a pet friendly 1 king suite. Comfortable bed but that is likely due to the springs having the life beaten out of them over time. The living room had a Murphy queen (ideal for our two young boys). Each room had heat control. The kitchen is equipped with all the basics (utensils etc) and has a dishwasher, coffee maker, microwave and hot plate. The toaster was worthless. There are three bar stools yet there is a separate dining alcove for 4 people. Large fridge and freezer. Perfect for breakfast, some takeout meals and prepping lunch. There are two bathrooms in this unit and hot water wasn’t an issue. We stayed with a dog. I will tell you now that the carpets need ripping out and burning, they are disgusting. Wear slippers. Tiled floor was dirty. You can’t quite smell the shower curtain from the entrance, but pretty close. Think Super 8. As I say, though, it served our purpose. You are a block from the chair lift. There is a complimentary ski valet next to reception. The shuttle for town stops right outside. The location is great. Previous guests complained about the price. Get over it, this is a destination hotel, not a highway motel. The price is extremely reasonable. If you want fancy, go to Vail. But you are reading this because you are not going to Vail. Previous guests complained about rowdy kids in the pool. Yep, my kids had a blast. Be sure to get a tetanus shot prior to use. The crowded hot tub of stewing human flesh was welcomed after a hard day skiing. Steam room was great. There is no ‘spa’ anymore. People complained about the staff. I had one interaction at check in and it went delightfully smoothly. Parking was busy but always available. Yes, you should leave when you checkout. Deal with it. Yes, you can hear dogs barking. If that offends you, don’t stay. The cafe for a breakfast was fine. Little store selling overpriced crap was perfect for mementos. As I say, this hotel is riddled with issues but suited our...
