Ā Ā Ā Read moreREAD IF YOU ONLY WANT TO RIDE THE LIFT TO THE TOP DURING SUMMER- Beware! I wanted to take my family to the top of Crested Butte to have lunch. Went to the desk to pay for the very expensive $39 per person fee to ride the lift one time. I specifically asked the seasoned adult staff member who was selling me the tickets about the restaurant at the top of the lift as we wanted to enjoy a nice meal at the top of the mountain. He said the restaurant closed at 4pm and provided instructions on which direction to walk and how long it should take us to find it once at the top. It was 1:30pm. I paid the $200 for the 5 of us to ride the lift as I thought it would be a special thing for my family to do. After arriving at the top, we began to head into the suggested direction. After wondering around for an hour in the blazing sun (as there are NO signs directing walkers to the restaurant) we learned the restaurant closed earlier in the day and was not even open! Frustrated, hot, and hungry, we all rode the lift back down. I went right back to the ticket office to confront the staff person who sold me the tickets. He reminded me that he used words like should, might, ought, and could and that he made no promises and would not stand behind the information he provided me which is why I bought the tickets in the first place. I asked for a manager who was ironically standing right next to him and who had already heard my disappointment about what happened. She rudely spouted back about some fine print located within their policy and that I was just buying a one time trip up the lift and not a guarantee to an open restaurant. She was not willing to accommodate me in any way. LESSON LEARNEDCrested Butte staff will tell you anything you want to hear to deceive and mislead you into buy a lift ticket. If they even take the time to respond to this review, Iām sure they will reply with some hollow apology and mention some pathetic policy as to why they responded the way they did. Crested Butte only cares about scamming you out of your money and not if you are happy as a patron. AND THEY CERTAINTY ARE NOT CONCERNED ABOUT DOING THE RIGHT THING! Staff is not equipped with accurate information to answer your questions. They act like they hate their jobs and donāt even want to be there. It is so sad that managment supports their staff by allowing them to treat their customers this way! Crested Butte staff has no clue what is happening at the top of the lift, do not trust them and purchase tickets based upon the details they provide. You have...
Our experience with the Crested Butte Ski & Ride School was nothing short of exceptional, thanks to two incredible individualsāJordan A. from the lessons office and our guide, Dan Loftus.
Jordan went above and beyond to make our trip a reality, demonstrating an empathy and kindness that we will never forget. When we were exploring options for a steeps lesson, we found that what we wanted to do wasnāt part of the standard group classes. A private lesson was suggested, but it was simply out of reach for us. Jordan understood our situation and, instead of turning us away, found a way to make the group lesson work, when otherwise it seemed out of reach. Her kindness and willingness to help made all the difference, and we couldnāt have been more grateful.
Once on the mountain, we were paired with Dan Loftus, and he turned what could have been a great lesson into an unforgettable experience. He didnāt just guide us through some of the toughest terraināhe gave us the confidence to push past our self-imposed limits. With Danās expert instruction, we gained the skills to safely navigate the areas we had set our sights on, and he made sure we walked away not just with knowledge but with memories. He even took the time to capture photos of us together, something that rarely happens when one of us is always behind the camera.
But the most unexpected part? Dan made us better skiers. Through a series of small but powerful adjustments, he helped refine our technique in ways we hadnāt realized we needed. Those improvements made all the difference. So much so that the very next day, my daughter, Isabella, took on Ramboāthe steepest lift-served tree-cut run in North Americaāsuccessfully executing controlled jump turns with the confidence and skill she had honed with Dan.
Between Jordanās kindness and Danās outstanding instruction, this was hands down one of the best ski experiences we have ever had. If you're considering tackling the extremes at Crested Butte, do yourself a favor and book the Steeps Guided Tour with Dan Loftus. You...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst of all, I have been to Crested Butte many times in the past. I love the town and it is a really fun place to ski. The ski hill has a wide variety of terrain and the views are spectacular. However, I have never experienced the crowds we saw this past weekend! Thursday and Friday were fine. The lift lines were reasonable, our lunch reservations at Paradise Warming House worked well for our party of 9 and the food was good. But on Saturday, the lift lines at East River were 35+ minutes long with the singles line going way up the hill and the Paradise line was worse! There is no cell service on that part of the mountain, not even in the lodge, so there is no way to let others in your party know that you are stuck in a long lift line. I think that Vail Properties needs to install a cell tower or some way that communication is possible. This is a safety issue. Also, according to the most recent map, there is no run back down to the base from either Paradise or Teocalli lifts. Teocalli lift was closed, and if the Paradise lift went down, there is no way to get hundreds of people off that side of the mountain. There needs to at least be a way to get back to the Base without having to stand in impossibly long lines. Also, a status board at the bottom and top of the lifts stating whether certain lifts or runs are closed or crowded would help guide skiers as to where to go or what to avoid. I have seen these at other ski hills and it can be really helpful. There was just a small sign stating that East River was closed on Friday and Teocalli was closed on Saturday that many people did not see. I'm sure I will return to Crested Butte to ski as my family has taken annual trips there, but I will be avoiding the weekends...
