To anyone considering staying at the Nordic Inn: please, please read this review in its entirety.
If you have any medical issues or the possibility of an accident - DO NOT stay at this hotel. This is way more than a “there were cockroaches” or “noise” complaint. This is a genuine post warning future guests of the poor treatment you will receive if you happen to have a medical emergency while staying at The Nordic Inn. I will preface this by saying I have had a severe, life-threatening cardiac medical history all of my life. It does not effect my day-to-day life but the cardiac episodes are spontaneous and no telling when it will occur. On 02/19, I began experiencing the typical symptoms before the real emergency takes place. My husband and I tried to manage them on our own in the hotel room. In these previous situations, I have had to have medical intervention to “reboot” my heart - a VERY real reason to call 911. After 45 minutes of trying to manage on my own with failed attempts, we decide the best course of action was to call EMS. By the time they arrived I was stable and coherent. They stayed with me for about 30-45min to monitor and then left. During the time they were there, one of the owners/management peaked into the room and was quickly moved away by a police officer. On the morning of 02/20 my husband received a call from the woman who runs the front desk (possibly owner/management) as well. She stated that she “needed to have a chat” with us, and to stop by the main office when returned to the hotel. Okay, cool. No big deal. We figured she just needed to complete an incident report or something of that sort. We went to the office and the lady brought us to the couch and began with asking us “what happened last night”, to which we replied that it was a private medical matter and that I was okay, and that there was no injury/accident that occurred due to the room we were staying in. She then began accusing us of smoking (weed or cigarettes, I am not sure) in our hotel room. This did not occur at all. She then also accused us of smoking on the balcony of the hotel. Again, false accusation although we witnessed many guests smoking on the balcony so perhaps she was mistaken here and that’s okay. With this she then started telling us how smokers bring poor reviews to their hotel. Okay, irrelevant to us, so whatever. She than continued by saying that us calling 911 has also brought negative reviews and that is something they did not want as a hotel establishment. She stated that guests were calling in the middle of the night to inquire on the event. She said that the ambulance and police in the parking lot looked bad. I was floored by this - I have never known anyone to care so little about ones wellbeing. She then stated I was being “snarky” with a “cocky attitude”. Firstly - yes, I was upset by this interaction, rightfully so. I was accused of smoking in the room/premises and it was implied that my health was less important than hotel reviews. And secondly - why in the world is it okay for the hotel owner to call a guest names? This was the most childish, juvenile behavior I have ever witnessed in an adult. Due to this whole issue that we encountered, we decided we did not feel comfortable staying at their hotel. We were treated so horribly by the female that we made arrangements to go to another hotel for the remainder of our vacation. We went down to the front desk again before checking out to explain why we were leaving. The gentlemen (owner?) was very apologetic and said he did not want us to leave due to this “misunderstanding”. There was no misunderstanding. It was made very clear by his wife. So for the sake of any individual who may have any emergency on this property - move on to the next hotel. Do not waste your time here. It is not worth the shame she will make you feel and the names she will call you for having an emergency and being upset the...
Read moreOur 2nd time staying at Nordic Inn, since we had such a nice experience the first time in 2019. We stayed this time in the main 2-story motel/hotel building (we previously stayed in the loft king suite, at but detached from the main building), and I requested a room on the upper level to control for any possible noise coming from above our room. We had quiet neighbors and our room was very quiet. We stayed a whole week and were quite comfortable in the signature king room. Really comfortable bed - not too firm, not too soft; room and bathroom were very clean. The room had a small table and 2 chairs which were perfect to eat dinner leftovers 2 nights.||There is a common refrigerator and microwave in the ski/boot storage area on the upper level. Several people also used the refrigerator for restaurant leftovers and everyone labeled their bag or container. We planned ahead and packed paper plates and flatware (although I think you could just go downstairs and use the plates and flatware from the breakfast area and return them to the dirty dish bin).||Breakfast in the morning had a decent variety of food so that even staying a week we were satisfied. Hard boiled eggs, yogurt, some pre-packaged breakfast burritos that could be heated, bread, bagels, croissants, cereals, peanut butter, jelly and cream cheese for spreads; dried craisins, sliced canned peaches (that were surprisingly good!), juices and milk. And wonderful, smooth, hot coffee made daily with real half and half available.||The wine and alcohol dispensing machines (card keys charge back to your room) make it easy to enjoy the hot tub with a drink after skiing. There is also canned beer available for purchase, but the desk staff need to be there to retrieve it for guests. Be sure to order a couple extra if you want one in the early afternoon before the desk staff arrives around 3 pm.||The common area on the first floor has a very cozy lodge feel, with the stone wood-burning fireplace and plenty of seating on overstuffed leather furniture. Great place to go read a book or play a game in the evening.||As their webpage states this is the "longest operating lodge in Gunnison county and is the first and only remaining hotel in Mt. Crested Butte from the first year the ski area opened in 1963." They have updated all the rooms and furnishings a few times since then, but there can still be some issues. The shower curtain rod in our bathroom was loose in the bracket, but my husband was able to tighten it, and the little coffee maker leaked water so wasn't usable (better brewed coffee served at breakfast anyway). We reported both to the desk staff so they could address the issues.||Easy walk (5 minutes, even walking slowly in ski boots) on the sidewalk to the main lift area, and to the bus stop for the free bus into town.||Crested Butte Sports is an independent ski and bike shop right across the parking lot from the Inn. We were able to drop off our skis late in the afternoon for waxing and pick them up next...
Read moreTraveled to Crested Butte to see a concert on Saturday Night. Saw that the Nordic Inn had a "chalet" available for Saturday. It is between seasons in Crested Butte and there is not a lot open right now. The pictures of the Chalet looked great online but what a disappointment when we arrived! Check in was at 3... We arrived at 2... There was no one at reception available to talk to but a nice lobby area to wait in. I tried calling the Hotel phone number but no answer. So, we waited until 3, meanwhile 2 other couples arrive and are waiting as well. We finally get checked in at 3 and head to the "Chalet." This unit is large, however the quality of the room would be more in line with Motel 6 and for the money we paid, very disappointed! The refrigerator in the unit was broken, luckily there was snow outside so I was able to put some in my cooler to keep drinks cold. The light in the kitchen was not working. The whole unit was extremely cold when we arrived and never did get warm. Would be nice if the hotel could turn the heat up a bit knowing there are guests arriving. A big part of the heat problem was that neither gas stove on the 1st or 2nd floor worked at all. Luckily there were a lot of windows and warm Colorado sun to heat the upstairs during the day. The second floor has a deck with a few chairs which would have been nice to sit on but I had to shovel the snow first (luckily they left shovels for US to use). The front stairs were a bit treacherous but I guess it is the mountains... 3 of the 4 beds were super uncomfortable so we decided on the 1 bed to sleep in. This bed was colder than the rest of the house, luckily we could pull blankets off other beds to get warm. The stove in the unit is old and very scratched up from cleaning over the years. On top of all that the satellite TV does not work on either TV, luckily the internet did work so we were able to watch TV on our computer. In general this place is very old and dated. When paying $340 would have expected something nicer. I cant even imagine what they charge for this place during peek season,...
