As I type this review, I’m exhausted and grimy and overheated and sitting in the king suite that La Quinta was forced to comp me for failing to provide the ADA accessible room that I reserved two days ago.
This happened because La Quinta Inn overbooked their rooms. This is not the first time this has happened. The room I reserved was supposed to be vacated today but it’s occupants chose to extend their stay. La Quinta gave me no notice that the room I was promised and had reserved wasn’t going to be available and, instead, I was given a standard room (for the same price that I had paid for the ADA accessible room). The bathroom was only slightly bigger than an airplane lavatory. My disabled father could not fit his walker through the doorway and, even if he had been able to, wouldn’t have been able to move afterwards.
I had to physically lower him onto the toilet and couldn’t close the door because when sitting on the toilet, one’s legs blocked the door.
It is unacceptable to me that a hotel is able to reserve a room for someone and then not notify them when they can’t follow through on that commitment. My father is disabled. ADA accessible rooms are not a luxury, they’re a necessity. We have been comped a larger ADA accessible suite at a different La Quinta, and while I appreciate that, it doesn’t solve the root problem. (Side note: this ADA suite is on the second floor and a reasonable distance from the elevators.)
I cannot stress this enough. Do not commit to holding a room for a guest if your policy allows for things like this. Guests extending their stay are charged for the extra days on their credit card, which makes sense, but what about the people who are promised that room based on the reservation dates? The hotel knows by 11 am that the room is occupied. Would a phone call to inform that guest making the reservation be so difficult? We could have and would have made other arrangements. Instead, I’m shuttling my father around the city of Dallas. All because La Quinta couldn’t give me the room that I paid for.
I would urge hotel management across the board to reassess accommodations for people with disabilities. They are not a minority, nor can they be reasonable accommodated by having two rooms in an entire hotel that may or may not have accessible features. This is a safety issue. This is not the first time I have experienced this and it won’t be the last and I felt I had to write this to caution other people with loved ones using walkers, wheelchairs or other handicap equipment.
The only redeeming factor from this entire situation was senior hotel guest services person Michelle, who very quickly and professionally ensured we’d be taken care of and accommodated at no cost. If each hotel was staffed with someone as courteous and qualified as her, making important decisions too, perhaps this wouldn’t be such a...
Read moreIt's hard to get me to give a bad review. I'm very generous. But, this place. This place really got to me. I gave it 2 stars because of the location it was in to surrounding social gathering places. Other than that, that was all that was nice advice this place. Let's start off with night number one, it wasn't bad at all. The only thing that put me off about this place was the mattress and the windows. Let me tell you why; I was kind of skeptical about this place from long at it on Google maps. The doors were on the outside of the hotel. I don't run into that except for at motels and litter quality hotels. So, first night, I got in the room, pulled off the sheets just to be on the safe side for bedbugs. La quinta may have done a little bit of a remodel here, but not much; the mattress was years old. It was really worn around the edges. This matters should have been replaced 2 years ago. For the windows, I noticed every other room had its window slightly pushed in. It was as if someone tried breaking in, and they just didn't bother fixing the windows. Shame on you la quinta. The second night, not bad; that lingering feeling about the previous night was still there. I wake up the next morning and notice this has a security gaurd for nighttime purposes. I didn't think much of it, but I noticed. The breakfast was disappointing. You have fruit, cereal, or pancakes; no eggs, no bacon, no sausage. The microwave didn't have in my room or my coworkers. He had to use my coffee maker to boil water because his didn't work. Third night, not its starting to sink in that maybe I should have went the extra 10 miles and not just decided on a place that was surrounded by bars and eateries. I wake up on the fourth day early early in the morning. We are up early to try and get through the day and not have to stay Friday. Well, I'm up the earliest at 2:30am. I walk down the row of doors to the corridor in the middle of the hotel to get to the front desk. There was a strange gentleman hanging outside of door, but the two people in the corridor take the prize. I can't describe it as my review, but it was bad. Really bad. I later find out why when I start taking with the security gaurd. There was more to the area than I had previously researched. If security is an issue for you, the amenities, the mattress, the overall appearance, or just the feel of the place, don't stay here. This is not a family...
Read moreMr. Sal Soto, General Manager, Your property is indeed THE poorest representation of a La Quinta and Wyndham property. Having worked in hospitality for many years I understand that fast turn-arounds can sometimes leave an item or two over-looked. This property...within the past week... IS NOT a simply overlooked situation. I implore you to check out Room 154. Move the TV a few inches, hasn't been touched in forever (grease, hair, dirt). While there, you might want to fumigate it. Baby roaches along the baseboards. Oh yes, while at the baseboards, maybe actually clean the accumulated dirt and white fuzz so prevalent on the black carpet. The dollar store has the missing toilet paper holder you might be looking for. The obvious damage from a crowbar to the door was a lovely touch. Specific to our visit with 2 children, we checked in and left to explore the city not returning until late. It was at 10pm as we were ready to fall into bed that we pulled the covers back to reveal a bed speckled with body hair and an obviously used bed. I was met on the phone with, "Ohhhh, you're going to have to come to the front desk and get clean sheets". The next morning, again body hair in the shower...and with a party of FOUR, met with ONE tiny bottle of shampoo and 2 towels. At 8am, told, "Sure! Come on down to the front desk and get more!" Not likely! I've already taken the walk of shame around your parking lot. An hour later, still no towels. I'm pretty sure the customers at the neighboring Denny's figured I worked there with the stack of towels, washcloths, and juggling shampoos/soaps. I'm pretty sure I was PAYING YOU for hospitality, not paying for the apparent experience of housekeeping my own room. If you decide to bring your property into the 21st century, might I suggest actual outlets that are accessible and not used by the dim lamps. USB is actually a thing now. My review will not stop here. To think I changed from another property to yours to be so incredibly dismal, was the low-light of our long anticipated trip. You have apparently been in the hospitality industry for quite some time; leadership and expectations come from the top. I won't be returning and can't recommend others to...
