The staff were very unfriendly and unhelpful, especially for people who are supposed to be HOSPITALITY professionals. Front desk clerk has cold, angry eyes seething with irritation and a dismissive tone. Completely lacking in compassion or empathy.
We had a day to kill after getting off the cruise ship, before our flight, so we had a reservation for one night at this Marriott. Unfortunately my husband got food poisoning from dinner last night, and he was vomiting and nauseated all morning. That's why we arrived at the hotel at 8:00 a.m. Check-in is not until 4, but hubby asked if there was any way we could get early check in, even offering to pay for an extra day. He was told they would call as soon as a room was available.
I understand busy, chaotic businesses and the stress it can cause. So I was very polite and cheerful when I went in 2 hours later and asked if there was any update, or was there any way we could upgrade our reservation to find any availability. The rude dude put his best fake smile on his cold face and told me that they would call. "We SAID we would call. We are sold out. Nothing is available." I said okay thank you, and walked back to the car.
Two and a half hours later, my husband is still feeling horrible although thankfully he's been able to sleep a little. We hadn't heard a thing, so I went back to ask, with my same understanding smile, hoping that maybe they had forgotten or just been too busy to call. Surely by 12:30, there is a clean room that we could have.
"I know you are busy; I thought maybe you didn't have time to call. Is there anything available yet?" I asked hopefully.
This guy could barely contain his irritation, "We SAID we would call you. Believe me, I want to get you out of our lobby as much as you do."
I said, "We aren't in your lobby. We've been waiting in the parking lot." I don't remember his answer, but I left with tears in my eyes, feeling completely disrespected and helpless to help my husband get out of the heat and lay down in a comfortable bed. He's been trying to sleep in the car for 4 and 1/2 hours now.
Oh, I forgot to mention the manager that came out with another employee, practically accusing us of being vagrants because we were sitting in the car. At least they did not run us off the property, but she gave no assurance or show of compassion that she would do something to try to help us.
Finally, in desperation, I called a nearby Hampton Inn, and spoke to the nicest woman named Beverly. She immediately showed compassion and put on some hold to check with housekeeping to see if there was a room available. They did not have one, but she went the extra mile and called a neighboring property to find a room for us. She was amazing and kind, a true professional hospitality agent, and exactly the kind of person you would want to help you in time of need. Not only did she find us a room at a decent rate, but they did not charge us for the early check-in.
I will probably never stay at another Marriott due to the horrible experience here. Oh, and we are not getting our money back because we did not cancel...
Read moreWe stayed here for three nights. If you're flying into/from Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, this is your perfect location. The hotel itself is pretty new, decorated in a modern and contemporary style.
The rooms were a comfortable size with a modern kitchen. Surprisingly, I found the bathrooms larger then what I expected with plenty of light. I also found the rooms insulated well with no noise from approaching aircraft. My room was facing the back of the hotel, overlooking a residential area. The front of the hotel faces two streets that intersect which are busy. I'm assuming the insulated rooms protect you from possible noise. If you're sensitive to noise, the air conditioner in the room seemed quite loud, but for me, that helps me sleep and will drown out possible noise in the hallways or nearby rooms.
The staff at the front desk were responsive to any of my questions and were quick for check-in/out. I do want to give a big shout-out to the breakfast staff. They were very cheerful and pleasant to talk with. They also did a great job managing the cleanliness of the breakfast area. Speaking of breakfast, it has to be the best I've experienced at a moderate priced hotel. The selection was large from scrambled eggs, potatoes, yogurt, bagels, cereal, fresh fruit, hot oatmeal and the list goes on. Available for the guests are 24 hour coffee and tea. Again, for a moderate priced hotel, the coffee was pretty good considering I've become a coffee snob. A friendly tip....instead of having breakfast inside, enjoy the table, chairs, and sofa outside! It's very quiet and zen compared to the noise and amount of people who are eating inside.
The public areas of the hotel are great. As I just mentioned, the outside lounge area near the pool is wonderful. The lobby area inside is great as well. The Wifi is fast in all areas including the room and outside lounge area. I didn't use the gym but my partner did and liked it for the convenience.
The location is great, right off I-95. You can be in downtown Ft. Lauderdale in 10 minutes and downtown Miami in 30 minutes without traffic. Within a 5 minute drive is a 24-hour CVS and for grocery shopping, a Publix...
Read moreIt is so disingenuous of this hotel not to publicly share that the hotel is under renovation. I booked this hotel at the last minute and checked in late at night on 8/16/24. The location is not exactly close to restaurants as there were limited open restaurants nearby to grab a bite around 11 pm. At check in, I met a receptionist who was very curt and sounded irritated when I asked if she could use my card on file when I realized I didn't have my usual travel card. BTW I'm a platinum member and all she did was ask do u want point or something from the market or whatever it's called. There was no smile or welcoming tone welcoming me to the hotel. I also booked this hotel because I needed to dry some clothes but she said that the hotel was being renovated and the only washer and dryer they had was not working. I was on a same day road trip and didn't expect to spend the night so I had used my car charger all day to charge my phone and my battery was almost dead. I needed to charge my phone and there was NOT a single USB port in the room, lobby, (these are usually built into lamps and other desk outlets/ports. I looked for a business center but all they had was 3 chairs and a counter, no computer or business center. I went downstairs for breakfast the next day and it just wasn't appealing nor appetizing. It looked like a ramshackle/slapped together set up to feed the hungry masses. Fruit container left wide open where guests can talk over it and bugs and dust can settle on it. Some dry looking wrapped sandwiches and cheap packaged muffins. The bedroom was clean, and extra bedding was available for the pullout sofa. Overall a great disappointment and waste of my hard earned points. Someone left a luggage cart practically in front of my room since last night. When I came out of my room this morning, it was blocking my door. I should've stayed at the Sheraton, Renaissance or Courtyard (which are closer to my son's school anyway) for the same or less points if I'd known about the lack of dryer and...
