I REALLY want to leave a good review for this place, but I just can't. I like BassPro as an organization, and the Dania spot is clean neat and inviting. But I just cannot find myself a positive experience to discuss when it comes to their firearms section, which is most of the business I do with BassPro. It's very clear that the gun counter guys have been totally overworked and outmanned for way too long, and they have to catch tons of abuse from customers who are made victims of this lack of staffing. The end result is that no one is having fun. The guys that work the section are so burned out that they can't help but be generally mean.
It's clear they do not want to help you, or for you to be there. And to be honest it isn't their fault. The FDLE background check system gives them bad situation after bad situation that they can't do anything about, and they catch hell from people over it. But what they do have control over is the queue system, staff amount, and wait times which regularly exceed 2 hours plus to receive basic assistance.
I have, on one occasion, purchased an item online (requiring nothing more than BG check and handoff), gotten to the location by 6pm, and waited until nearly 9pm, only for them to decide that it was too close to closing time to help me. I had driven nearly an hour to get there, and the only option I was given was to come back. They gave me a $50 gift card for my trouble, which TBH was a good gesture on the part of the manager on duty, but come on. There is no situation where this should be happening. Ever. There are ways to mitigate this issue, and clearly no one is making any attempts to do so.
So the three stars are for selection, inventory and pricing. But if you choose to purchase from this location, you are GUARANTEED to have a bad experience. It's not a chance you will, its a certainty. Because if you somehow miraculously avoid the wait times, you can fully expect the rep helping you to be actively disgruntled towards you for the entire experience. And considering the fact that making a purchase as expensive as a new firearm should be something you enjoy, you are effectively trading the fun of the experience for the good...
Read moreWARNING ABOUT SANTINO: My family and I love this location. We go shooting at the range frequently. Everyone at the store is exceptionally friendly and helpful. The guys at the range including Duke and Tyler really ensure that people are safe. Unfortunately, we had a horrible experience on Friday February 23 with an employee called Santino. The POS system went down at the range so we were unable to pay for our lanes and ammo. We went downstairs and looked at some items for a while when we realized the transaction did go through. We went back to the range and Duke, the range officer, told us we needed to go to customer service to ask for a refund. At the customer service booth we were helped by a very nice young lady whose name I didn't catch. However, as we were explaining the situation to this young lady, Santino interjected and started asking us questions. We felt as though we were in a police interrogation. He was loud and combative and said we were lying. We told him to call Duke at the range to verify our story but he refused to do so. When we concluded that we were wasting our time and that we would dispute the transaction with the credit card company, we walked away. As we were walking away, Santino laughed at us and told another customer that "people like them (meaning my family) always try to scam the store". His friendly demeanor toward the other customer who was white and had an American accent and the "people like them" comment gave us the impression that he was discriminating against us based on our accents and perceived national origin. If nothing else, he made the assumption that we were thieves and refused to consider any evidence to the contrary. We felt angry and humiliated by the interaction. This is no way to treat your customers. We are all about supporting retail workers but this behavior was way over the line and needs to...
Read moreI recently purchased a rifle from Bass. Once the background check was approved, I returned to collect my new gun. I thought the worst was behind me. I was wrong. I was glad to see that there was no one else waiting when I arrived, as I was somewhat short on time. I was promptly greeted by a salesman and he proceeded to bring out my new gun. That's when things slowed down. He flipped aimlessly through the paperwork asking me numerous redundant questions for an already approved sale with a tone of confusion in his voice. Its not my first gun and I have a concealed weapons permit. so I found this quite odd. Finally concluding that all was in order, he walked off to record the transfer. I waited and waited some more. I asked another employee to check on him and explained that I was running out of time. I waited some more before asking for my Ids so I could leave, explaining that I could not miss a meeting and would be back within an hour. When I returned, they had canceled the sale, meaning I had to start the application process all over. Hard to understand since the background check is good for 30 days. As I waited 45 minutes for this, I had the opportunity to observe the activity behind the counter. It is no wonder they couldn't get my transfer done in a timely manner. It seemed that the guy was moving in slow motion and that was with another customer. All in all between three trips to bass and the time spent waiting, I count nearly 5 hours wasted. They offered to hold the gun and reprocess the application, but fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice shame on me April 2 update. This morning I went to another gun shop. Purchased a rifle, received an approval on the background check and was home with my new gun in less than an hour. Seems whatever the drama was with my purchase at Bass, it was...
