My Experience at Travelodge Deadwood
I had an awesome weekend planned in Deadwood, South Dakota. I used Expedia to book a room at the Travelodge in Deadwood for two nights, specifically searching for pet-friendly hotels. Travelodge was listed as one of the pet-friendly options. I selected my room, completed the reservation through the app, and paid just under $500 for the stay. Everything seemed simple and set.
After a 4.5-hour drive from Billings, Montana â with a few pit stops â we arrived at the hotel around 9:45 PM. I went to check in, gave my name, and they pulled up my reservation without issue. While waiting at the desk, I noticed a sign asking guests to notify the front desk if they have a pet. I mentioned that I had a small dog with me.
Thatâs when the night took a turn.
The front desk staff immediately told me they didnât have a pet-friendly room available. I explained that I had booked a pet-friendly hotel and paid for it through Expedia. They asked if I had used a third-party site to book, and when I confirmed, they shrugged it off and said this happens frequently â that Iâd have to take it up with Expedia. No solution was offered, no effort was made to help, and I was essentially turned away at 10 PM with nowhere else to go.
To make matters worse, there were no available hotel rooms within a 3-hour drive in any direction. I couldnât risk sleeping in my car due to a medical condition (sleep apnea), so we had no choice but to drive the 4.5 hours back home, arriving around 3 AM.
What bothers me most is hearing this isnât the first time this has happened to a guest. If your property cannot guarantee pet-friendly rooms through third-party bookings, it should not be advertised that way. At minimum, guests should be warned at the time of booking that room availability for pets isnât guaranteed â but no such disclaimer existed.
This experience completely ruined what shouldâve been a great weekend. I did everything right: booked a pet-friendly hotel, paid in advance, confirmed my reservation â only to be turned away without options. I hope Travelodge corporate takes a serious look at how this is being handled, both with third-party booking platforms and on-site guest...
Read moreThe service was okay, signs to breakfast is misleading in hotel #2 it states go to the 3rd floor, down the hall to another elevator that then directs you to the fourth floor. Once you arrive at the 4th floor it says the location is in the lobby. Once I stated the dilemma, we were told to follow the map, go outside walk into the parking garage to double doors (there's three levels...what level did you mean) it's the 2nd level. Haha. The "pet area" that's advertised is super small, muddy and a bit of over grown grass and trsg. It's just a small 8'-10' wide slit in the center of two parts of the hotel and the backside of the hotel along the foothill side. The Continental Breakfast consisted of instant eggs, precut ham that could be mistaken for spam, instant grits, premade pancakes and grands biscuits. There's an oj / cranberry juice machine and a soda selection that's in what looks to be on bingo tables. The pet room, was around $160 for the night for a laminate floor, outdated room from when it was once built and ceiling tiles in the bathroom. I've stayed in 4-5 star hotels with cutting edge state of the art gyms, pools, saunas and pet areas for less than this price. I asked for the wifi user/pass and was told they weren't sure and would let me know. Hours later, still unknown...if I wanted to wait and find out I should play the slots and wait. By that time, I went to bed, woke up and left. Total stay of 9 hours. And they don't offer military/ vet discounts. If you're in a jam or don't know better, I'd say stop through. I'd suggest looking around for something more comparable. Just my opinion,...
