Needed a room for one night while on a short Pocono vacation to enjoy some fall attractions. The Glenwood Inn & Conference Center seemed like a centralized, middle-of-the-road option.
When we arrived, the place looked abandoned. The inviting Glenwood Inn sign from the picture was surrounded, not by beautiful flowers, but by crime scene tape. I assume it's being renovated. To find the lobby, you need to follow a series of pink "check-in ---" signs taped to various cars and structures. Once we made it to the lobby, we were greeted by a pleasant young man. He welcomed us and let us know this was a "family run business," who wanted to make our stay a pleasant one. To do that, he held my credit card and driver's license to allow us time to check out our room. He would only charge it once we made sure the room was satisfactory. A warming gesture, we thought. We stayed in Cabana 17 - a king size bed w/ whirlpool room. The moment we stepped foot inside, we realized satisfactory was about as good as it was going to get.
The room had a certain odor. Must mixed with air freshener? Whatever it was, you could taste it. There was sparse, mismatched furniture, only one hideous light on the wall, and a bathroom window with no curtains. The mattress felt like it was found under an overpass. Not comfortable in the least. Several crickets had entered from under the gap in the door. They became our security guards as the songs played by their tiny legs muffled the sounds of banging doors and folks blaring music next door.
All of this being said, it's clear they took time to clean the room. In fact, you could see bleach stains on the walls. At least I hope it was bleach. So props for cleanliness.
We did use the whirlpool, but when we woke up in the morning, we saw it was covered in dirt and silt. We chalked it up to the remnants of "Pocono water," because it seemed clean when we got in.
Cannot speak to the pool, food, or conference facilities as we did not need/use them.
My biggest gripe is that, with tax, this room cost $216. Yes, we could've backed out after assessing the room, but we didn't want to be rude, as it's clear this is a small, family-owned business. However, this room should've been $79 tops. Not sure we'd stay there again, but wish the family the best in rehabbing what appears to have once been a popular Pocono tourist...
Read moreI’m very happy with my stay from 7/13-7/16. I read the reviews before I came and honestly, the people that gave bad reviews may only belong in 5 star hotels. This is an older hotel and you can tell they have done updates. It’s cozy, quiet, and very clean. We even wiped the floor and it’s spotless. Usually I bring my own sheets to hotels, but after inspecting the beds and mattresses, I felt comfortable using theirs.
Check in was super easy, I was confused on where to go at first but it wasn’t hard to figure it out. The owner is VERY nice. I’m originally from this area but came back for a family get together and never knew about this place. My room is clean, smells nice, beds and sheets are clean, tv and WiFi are great, and the room itself is pretty big. Close to hiking and the river which is perfect for me and my dogs. I ended up booking an extra night. I feel super comfortable here. It’s on about 60 acres, so there’s lots of walking around if you have a pet. There is creek access but we didn’t go down there because it’s tick season.
One reviewer said that they felt unsafe, which I find hilarious. It’s quiet and all the guests have been nice. This isn’t exactly a crime filled area… there’s not much around. I think some people need to calm down. The first night we grilled in the parking lot. We stay up late and there are no weird people walking around. This place is definitely safe.
Someone else posted some weird pictures which happens to be of a building that is NOT CURRENTLY IN USE. Sometimes you need to ignore the bad reviews because it’s not possible to make everyone happy. This is a large place that has been around for a long time… originally built in the 1850s, I found.
The pool is nice and open, unlike someone else said. 5 restaurants within 3 minutes as well as two gas stations, plus you’re 5 minutes away from Main Street Stroudsburg with a ton of places to eat.
I’ll be coming back. The prices are unbeatable for the location and size...

We had a poor experience at this motel. The gentleman who checked us it’s was very pleasant but that’s about where the positive points end.
The room we got had mold in the shower and sink. The paint in the bathroom ceiling was peeling off and the light fixture had dead bugs in it. The blankets smelled like cheap perfume. There were hairs on the linens and towels; red and black- my whole party has brown hair. The lights were covered in dust. And the smoke alarm was missing.
The entire property is dated for sure. I can’t knock em for that. The mini fridge in our room looked older than I am and it took well over a day to get cold (it was unplugged when we entered the room ). Very disappointing as we were traveling with a baby who needs her milk kept cold.
One of the two beds was unusable. It completely sank in the middle. The other bed was fine and the pillows were surprisingly comfortable. Big and firm, not those faux fluffy ones that collapse to nothing when you put your head on it.
We got the impression the property is in the middle of you updating. Our room had wood floors which was a happy surprise! And the TV was modern with a large option of channels. Free wifi is available with decent connection.
We did not enjoy that the lock and chain on our door looked like it had been tampered with in the past.
When we ordered delivery, our delivery driver expressed he didn’t realize the motel portion was even still in service anymore as he frequently delivers to the rental houses on the property and never sees anyone there…
I couldn’t get a hold of anyone by phone.
When we went to check out I was fully prepared to express my concerns and complaints to management only to find no one manning the front desk and a basket with a note saying to drop the keys there.
We will not...
