West Riverfront Park has the potential to be one of the most beautiful parks in the city and region. Currently, it has a wide promenade just west of the Joe Louis Arena and Riverfront Towers that ends in an industrial area. There are some geese that land in a grassy area, and some fishermen, as well as cyclists, runners, walkers, and families. It’s more gritty than the east side’s Detroit RiverWalk, but this end has some fantastic views and is a nice place to go for a stroll. I can’t wait for the day when our Riverfront is seamlessly connected with miles of walking and biking paths for everyone to use. Read moreAfter years of hearing how dirty and dangerous Detroit was, I was a little apprehensive about visiting, but knew that I wanted to experience the Motor City. I was completely surprised at how clean and safe the River Walk area and the downtown in general was. Detroit is a great city that is experiencing a renaissance (GM Renaissance Building pun not included) and I thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The Riverwalk is about 3 miles long and there is a nice, easy access parking lot at the corner of Rivard and Atwater Streets. The views of the Detroit River and Windsor, Canada are incredible. Read moreWhile it's not a park per se, it is a lovely place to take a leisure stroll, nice jog or even get some miles in running or riding your bike. A few monuments to see, Detroit princess is also docked there. A few little hills if you wanna add some elevation or sit and view the water or even our neighboring country Canada. Very nice restaurants in walking distance and with outdoor eating. Has a place to rent bikes. Not too far off the beaten path is the Department of natural resource outdoor museum... very nice hands on place to take children and those that like nature: near her a shed area...
