Positives: overall positive interactions with staff at the resort and decent pools ||Negatives: predatory time share presentation, lost power on one evening and no hot water on the other (so fun after a hot day in the Florida sun), the view was a construction site, hidden parking fees||A simple recommendation - strongly consider staying elsewhere. The property has maintenance issues, you'll probably have a view of a construction site, and the timeshare folks do not stop hounding you. ||The time share presentation is a high-pressure sales pitch with "gifts" that don't work like the $50 debit card that they provided that wouldn't swipe. I was told by the front office that if I wanted to use it off property that I could contact the number on the back of the card but that there was nothing they could do ... how's that for customer service! ||That was tough but the pièce de résistance came in the form of the “closer” aka manager Sam Estelle. When I said multiple times that I would need to speak with my CPA to run the numbers his response was a snarky “Do you ask your CPA for permission to go on vacation, too?” After 2 hours of politely engaging and my “no” being disregarded for the past 30 minutes I was done. ||When I expressed my dissatisfaction with his comment as it implied that I, as a 38yo female physician who owns her own practice, would need to ask permission he proceeded to be dismissive and defensive. He doubled down saying he was shocked I would take offense because he always asks that question. ||He then gave a disingenuous apology and stood up which my partner who is also a female found intimidating and tripled down on how it’s not an inappropriate question. I had to explain that as the customer it matters if I found the question offensive and to respect my decision to decline the offers. I must wonder if we were men if we would have been treated differently.||To round it out as he walked away, he began to disparage me to the sales associate. The lack of professionalism and decorum was truly breathtaking. There’s a reason why timeshares are viewed as predatory I just had higher hopes for Marriott.||I've been a loyal Marriott platinum elite member for years but between this and the point devaluation it’s clear that they do not value their customers. I will be spending my time and money elsewhere - probably Hyatt or Hilton. ||I've informed Marriott HR, the resort and the MVC about this but have yet to get a response. An apology is free but even that is too much it seems. ||TLDR: If you want inconsistent access to power/hot water, a gorgeous view of dirt construction sites, and an aggressive/offensive time share presentation then this is the...
Read moreI have mixed reviews about this and I wish google allowed me to rate other things besides room, service, location. Short version, it's a clean but mediocre hotel. We did this at a deal for a timeshare presentation....fast forward to the end for details on that.
I'd give this a 3.5-4 star. The staff we met were very nice, although we didnt interact enough to give a rating. Property is well maintained and rooms are very clean. However, it was built in the early 90s and renovated in the early 2000s and you can tell. That being said, as an elder millennial- I sort of enjoyed the 90s vibe in the master bath and it didn't bother me because it was well maintained.
Things that get a ding:
Huge resort and traveling with older parents made the walking a bit much. I wasn't prepared for this. They should provide a shuttle around the property that comes to each unit every 15-30min. A shuttle or allowing guests to use the 4-person bikes at no cost would have made me rate it a 4-5.
Food options at the restaurant were just...blah. The selection on the menu was good but the taste of most things was bland. That being said, it's nice to have the option so again....not a 2 or 3 star but a solid 3.5-4.
The pools were nice but the resort should provide some sort of pool toys for kids. We visited other MVC locations and they provided this for out of town guests. Also, no towel service at the pools? Why?
A lot of the other activities like boats, bikes, etc. We're also an additional charge. It would have pushed me over the 4 or 5 star if more activities were included. Instead the resort seems to offer a few daily events like a Polynesian show, steel drums, etc. Which, is a nice perk, but only if you're at the resort all day every day.
At the end of the day, being that the place was clean and 15min to the Disney parks was what we needed. And even more worth it because we took the deal to listen to the timeshare presentation, so it was a steal. The timeshare presentation we sat thru wasn't too much torture. Our sales rep was very nice, but other staff there were cold and slightly rude. If Marriott figured out a way to make this timeshare concept more modern and flexible for the average family, more people would buy. The timeshare model is outdated, their sales tactics are textbook, and they didn't treat us like you were buying in to something luxury. I think if they could make the middle class family feel like you could buy in to luxury at a better investment, more people would consider it. But I can tell you their customer service and a 1990s resort in Orlando definitely did not give us...
Read moreWe have been owners of this property and come here every year to every other year around this time since the early 2000s. As of late (the past 3-5 years) we've noticed a decline in some areas. Today I was told by the Front Desk Rep. that "the statuses don't matter here" when inquiring about late checkout time for Gold elite members (which is a benefit of reaching gold elite status with Marriott). I did not push to her the fact that we are also owners and Florida residents, but she would've noticed this when she pulled up our reservation. I have been a supervisor at a Marriott property (not a villa, but still Marriott) and regardless of policy, we would never tell a guest their elite status doesn't matter. Statuses are earned based on how much money you spend a year and how many nights you stay with Marriott, so it does indeed matter, especially since we pay thousands of dollars in maintenance fees for this property regardless if we stay here or not every year by being timeshare holders/owners. I tried to call the desk 24 hours prior to our checkout date to get a late checkout (which i know full well is policy) but no one answered the phone and i wasn't in a state to go down to the lobby. Granted we were prepared to be out at the scheduled checkout time, but this interaction left a sour taste in my mouth, especially coming from our home property. We will be spending our next visit at a different property, but when we do decide to return here to our home property, we hope things will have improved. The location is nice, on site amenities are decent and the activities have something for all ages, even though the turnout this week wasn't great, it was still enjoyable. It just goes to show that people can truly make or break experiences. We also always come as a family to celebrate a birthday, and request a couple small amenities to be put in the room. That request was PARTIALLY fulfilled this trip so thanks for the effort on that. I just ask that missed phone calls be returned and to not tell members of a loyalty program that their loyalty doesn't matter. We understand policies vary from property to property, but it's how you word/deliver things that make...
