This one's going to be pretty wordy as a lot took place so I apologize in advance. Initially, I was pretty excited when I booked this room since I had driven by it being there previously as we are from Phoenix and helped our daughter move into her dorm room 2 weeks prior to this trip. After I booked the stay (for one night, my alone) it takes you to the next page to let you know you're booked. Well, on this page it says that the property does not offer trailer parking. I'm going over there to Durango to pick up my daughters Jeep (she's in her first year in college) which went kaput and trailering the thing back to Phoenix to sell. Immediately I called the hotel to cancel and they tell me they have a no cancellation policy. I tell them about the trailer and they won't let me park there and will not give me a cancellation and agreed maybe the booking page should mention something about trailers, so I hang up to think about what to do. My wife grabbed the phone and called them back to complain and after a little back and forth the manager says that he will let me know where to park the trailer and to ask for him when I arrive. Okay, so when I get there he was the one checking people in so I let him know about the trailer and he tells me to park it in the business parking lot to the north of the hotel property as he has an "arrangement" with the businesses owners who don't care about hotel guests parking there if necessary. Told me the times were between 5:00pm and 11:00am where they are "okay" with it. Its about a 100 yard walk so no big deal. The businesses where he told me to park are an auto parts store and a 24 hour gym located right next to each other. I park my SUV and get my luggage and start walking back to the hotel. As I'm doing so a gentleman drives up and says that I CANNOT park my vehicle there and especially NOT overnight. I mention that I was instructed by the hotel manager and told him about the "arrangement" and he said absolutely not, no arrangement exists! After a little conversation about a few other things I told this security gentleman that I simply don't know what to do. I just drove 429 miles to pick up my daughters Jeep to take back to Phx the next morning. He finally tells me that he will look the other way and let me park there just this one time. Thank goodness this gentleman had a heart but I'm a little perplexed as to the reason that the hotel manager would fabricate this parking arrangement. Well I guess he knew that I was only staying one night and he wouldn't be there the next morning so if my vehicle and trailer got towed, no big deal. Thankfully it didn't but GUESS WHAT I SAW in the parking lot of the hotel the next morning as I walked the 100 yards to my rig? That's right! A big yellow moving truck or something parked parallel across 5 spaces right in the hotel parking lot. Yup, about 15 yards from the sign that clearly reads: NO Rvs, Tractors or Trailers which I would think also includes huge trucks parked across 5 spaces... ?? maybe?? anyone?? As I checked out I informed the clerk who was assisting me about what I just saw in the parking lot and he looked at me in a very dismissive way and kind of shrugged his shoulders not even voicing any opinion about it at all. Good bye to this place as I'll never stay there again. Too bad as the room was pretty nice, they did have popcorn for the guests and the tv loaded with Netflix was very convenient but for $250 all I remember was the parking headache and no help from anyone expect the security guard for the next business over.
If you are reading this and are going to stay here and have a big truck or ANY vehicle pulling a trailer,...
Read more3.5 star property overall….good value & convenient location for Durango. ||We spent five nights at the Comfort Inn & Suites in Durango while in town for the Steamworks half marathon. I would consider this a very. “typical” Comfort Inn. 3 star rating or 3.5 star would be accurate. I had read online complaints about noise, lots of dogs, etc., and we never experienced any of that |other than in the morning people walking in the room above you. That’s typical of a hotel though.||VALUE: Given the high hotel prices of Durango I would say this is a good option. ||LOCATION: You are not right in the heart of the traffic of downtown, but you are very close. Not walkable to Main Street, but you are not far from Main Street at all. It was a very convenient location for all of the different activities we did. We inquired at the front desk about taking the free trolley that runs in town, but they said it’s hard to catch. Therefore, we never did take the trolley anywhere. The only time it was a bit challenging to find parking was the morning we were down on Main to catch our train ride. Otherwise, we never had any issue finding parking.||POPCORN/COOKIES: Daily free popcorn starts popping at 3 pm. There usually was popcorn in to the evening. Saw it available at 8 pm but this was the latest we were thru the lobby. Free cookies started at 4, but didn’t last long. Usually gone by 6 pm or earlier especially on the wknd. Would have thought they would’ve had cookies out a bit longer, especially on the weekends When you travel with a husband who loves his snacks, these were a treat…. Literally and figuratively.||GYM: Small & limited, but good quality equipment. Only 1 bike, 1 elliptical and 1 weight station. Really no floor area to do floor work. Weight machine had a variety of options, but only a machine really for one person especially if you’re strangers. This room could’ve been configured differently and had double the equipment. They need to add at least hand weights so multiple people can do weights at once & turn equipment to face mirrors. This wpuld free up floor space for yoga, core work, etc ||BKST: Typical “hot” hotel bkst. ||HOUSEKEEPING: Available upon request, not daily unless requested ||PKG: Strict one car pkg policy ||Things we did in the area: ||Hike Horse Gulch - we knocked out 10+ miles, but could easily have done more if you wanted. Skilled mtn biking option too, but only SKILLED riders|+Climb Durango Sky Stairs (529 stairs & lots of trails to explore)|Shop Main Street |Train to Silverton & bus ride back |Run Steamworks Half Marathon (June)|Animas River Walk Trail - wish we had time to rent bikes and ride the entire trail|Santa Rita Park / River Trail (near hotel) to watch the kayakers & rafters|* Mesa Grande National Park (be sure to book reservations in advance for guided tours, reservations open 2 weeks prior & sell out fast)||We did not do a rafting tour or any water activities. We would have been cold when wet, but we’re from Southern New MX which means temps here are pleasantly cool for us. I often had a fleece jacket on by 4 PM.||We left Durango and drove the Million Dollar Hy to spend 3 nights in Ouray. You could easily do a day trip from Durango to Ouray & back. However, if you can spend a few nights in the "Switzerland of the US". / Ouray I would recommend it. There’s more than a days worth to see in this cute town. ||This property was a good choice for us given Airbnb rentals seemed to be further out of town & pricey. This worked well for value &...
Read moreSuppose this would allow me to rate it a 0 stars than I would. I recently stayed at this hotel, and my experience during my visit was nothing short of a nightmare. And I feel compelled to share my unfortunate ordeal. I was forced to change rooms an astounding six times during my stay at this establishment. This was primarily due to a recurring issue that plagued every room I was assigned. Either the rooms had not been adequately cleaned by housekeeping or were marred by nauseating odors within the room. Despite the hotel's purported status as a "3-star" accommodation, the state of the rooms I encountered did not deserve such a classification. They consistently fell short of even basic standards of cleanliness and comfort, which makes me question the accuracy of their star rating. This hotel is more fittingly characterized as a 2-star facility at best. I am deeply disturbed to report that some of the issues I encountered went beyond mere inconvenience and crossed into the realm of health and hygiene hazards. During my stay, I discovered a room with urine and used toilet paper still in the toilet, an unacceptable oversight that speaks volumes about the hotel's neglect of cleanliness. I also had to endure the presence of a revolting smell that pervaded my room, rendering it uninhabitable. To add insult to injury, I also discovered pubic hairs on the toilet seat in one of the rooms I was assigned. This level of disregard for basic cleanliness standards is utterly inexcusable and tarnished what should have been a pleasant stay in Durango. I want to express my dissatisfaction with the Comfort Inn & Suites in Durango, Colorado. My experience was nothing short of a disaster, and I implore potential guests to consider alternative accommodations. I wholeheartedly discourage anyone from staying at this hotel. On a scale of -10 to 10, I unequivocally rate my experience here as a -10. You would be better off dispersed camping, as your tent would offer a cleaner and more sanitary environment than this hotel offers. The only reason we stayed here was due to every other nice hotel was booked out for the night. The rooms were not worth the...
