Visited on 8-14-2020 Being from Texas I decided that we had to stop in here and eat as we were passing through Durango on a road trip. I've eaten my fair share of Texas BBQ from Dallas to Houston to Austin so I consider myself to be a bit of a connoisseur. It was about 3pm so it was too early for us to eat a full dinner so my daughter and I split some BBQ Nachos with pulled pork. They were really good. The pork had a nice smokiness to it and was super tender. They heaped lots of cheese on the nachos and served it on a sheet of brown butcher paper. Gordon Ramsey might not approved of the plating but it definitely fit with the theme which had a rustic roadside feel to it.
We sat out on the patio and enjoyed the view. If it wasn't so hot the day that we stopped by I probably would have enjoyed more than 1 beer out there and let my daughter drive the rest of the way to our destination.
You sit wherever you want and order at the counter. The line moved pretty slow considering that there were only 5 or 6 people in front of us but I'm not going to ding the restaurant to hard for that. Part of the reason that things move so slow is because in order to properly social distance they can really only process 1 order at a time. You basically order, get your food, and pay all in the same spot. I will leave it to management to come up with a more efficient process.
Overall it was a great experience. We will definitely be back on our next pass through Durango to sample some of the...
Read moreBeing someone who travels for a living, and has eaten more than his share of BBQ, especially Texas style (Which is my favorite) I can tell you this is a Stacys Mom bbq joint, they got it going on! The brisket had a nice smoke ring with a good crust, strong but not too intense. The ribs nice smoke and just the right "pull" to bite the meat from the bone. Chicken was nice and tender, not dries out (not easy with breast meat) and the taters were excellent! As an added bonus on the brisket you can choose between the point or the flat same price. Most places charge more for flat (lean) slice only. The only negative is they were out of apple cobbler that night, but the peach was plenty good though! Being on the opposite side of the country (SC) I don't know when/if I'll get thru Durango again, but if I do I already know where I'm eating at!!! P.S. for those complaining about sauce, etc. it's TEXAS style, Not eastern, or KC or other suchevers. Texas is all about the smoke and seasoning, sauce is not on the meat but is on the side, mainly to keep eastern types from complaining about there bbq. A good Texas bbq doesn't need sauce and I can tell you this had no need for sauce. I just wish I had gotten more leftovers to...
Read moreWe were excited to stop and have lunch along the river... Roadtrip to the Grand Canyon. Sunday afternoon. Place was empty. The views from the patio were spectacular on this autumn afternoon... the food... not so much. Driest brisket I have ever had. I could see when they put it on the tray that it was overcooked - it looked like they had to saw it into slices. Pork ribs ok, salty. Macaroni and cheese pretty bad - tasted like kraft singles. Cashier told me to "take my coleslaw" out of the fridge myself... 3 bucks for a small plastic container and it was not good. Dry cabbage - no dressing or flavor. The food we could deal with - the dirty bathrooms, floors and filthy patio were not ok. There was food on the floor under the patio tables. There were flies everywhere inside and out. I saw the cashiers shoo flies away from the food they were slicing. I also don't like the big bottles of BBQ sauce sitting out on the tables outside - sticky and in serious need of cleaning - open for the flies to sit on. I would say save your money and get some good green chile if heading through Durango. 5 star views,...
