Thanks to the owners and office staff who made me feel welcome. The owners and Jill who work the check-in office are great, very accommodating and helpful, especially Jill. She's a delightful person and was so helpful when I needed directions and information about a particular area. I'm giving this a two star review only because the rooms are a just gets the job done kind of place. I might stay here again if nothing else in Egg Harbor or Fish Creek at a similar price point is available. The good: great view of the bay, bikes you can use for free, walking distance to downtown Egg, clean bathroom with a new shower stall, large mini-fridge, and microwave in the room, window that you can open, and helpful office staff.
The bad: the bed and pillows are very very firm, that does not work for me so I slept poorly. The wall unit AC was loud and leaked on the floor in the room, thankfully it was cool enough that I didn't need it after the first night (one of the owners responded immediately with a container to catch the water when I brought the issue to his attention). I killed at least one spider in my room every day and left with several spider bites, so they were in the bed with me at some point. It happens, but I'd rather it didn't. Maybe they can put in some bug hotels for first floor rooms. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls in my room, so it's in need of an update. I also had to ask for cups and paper mugs that should have been replenished by the housekeeping staff but were not, but one of the owners in the office happily got me everything I asked for. They apparently don't vacuum during your stay, so note that this can be a problem if you happen to track sand into your room. One final note, avoid room 105 because it's right next to the whirlpool room and you can hear everything going on in there through the walls and when sitting out on the patio...
Read moreFirst time patrons at this lodge. I'd passed it by over the years thinking some day I'd like to check this place out.||The lodge is set away from the road on a bluff, accessed via a private drive. ||Pros: all the essentials a lodge in Door can offer.Gorgeous sunset views of the bay, private verandas, well equipped, spacious rooms, unusually quiet setting, hot tub and pool, natural setting, lots of micro venues to be social or enjoy some couple's alone time with a glass of wine,...||Walking distance to town and restaurants.. Located along a bike route, a big plus for us.||Cons: no onsight restaurant. weathered and dated venue. Seems like it's stuck in time, 80s maybe? The only new addition I could see is a couple of social tables with gas fire pits. Guessing those are the newly added amenities. Nice add for sure||I'm wondering if this everything as it was is part of its charm. If I were a repeat patron, it's a safe bet I would decompress very quickly in familiar surroundings. Kinda like going to camp year after year only with creature comforts||I gather no kids under 17. That's a pro and con. I love seeing and hearing kids having fun, it gives me joy. I also like quiet time away from all the hustle and bustle of Door County tourism. Their no kids policy is a new experience for me. Try it, you might like it. We did....
Read moreSimple & serene come to mind here with THE BEST sunset views I've ever seen in Wisconsin!! My husband & I stayed here for our very first Door County trip this past Memorial Weekend (2014). Nothing fancy here but VERY clean & comfortable! TVs & dvd-players are in the rooms so there is that, if you need a little technology-entertainment, free wi-fi too! I walked out on the balcony & expected normal dead flies/bugs here & there in the corners or under the chairs, but NOPE, the balcony, chairs, table were spotless, even in the upper corners, emaculate!! Nice attention to detail with that, as well as bed-side chocolates, real cream in the refrigerator (for coffee), a flashlight in the nightstand 'just in case', wine-opener & a sharp kitchen knife all supplied - very thoughtful touches! Bed & pillows also very comfortable, my husband & I had some of the best nights' sleep here! The only tiny 'issue' I had was the lighting by the vanity wasn't very bright, but my husband brought over a bed-side lamp when needed, problem solved! And the bath towels could be updated/newer/fluffier, but still not anything I'd complain to them about. Definitely recommend for couples who want a quiet get-away, close to town too! Did I mention the cleanliness of this place?! HA! Trust me,...
