Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent out there to try out basses. The store was stocked well, neat and ready for the holiday shopping season. They had all the amps ready with cords and even picks on the stools for customers to use, nice touch.. Anyway, I couldn't get the bass I wanted anywhere online because it is discontinued so I wanted to check out a Thunderbird as an option, Always liked them but was leery of the shape for daily practice. GC did have a Tbird and I loved the sound but my instincts were correct on the body. No way could I play that thing for hours every day. So, I looked over the stock to find an alternative, the guys pulled anything down I wanted with no issues. Went through about ten basses with no hassle. I eventually found something I liked in the used section. I checked the price on my phone and it was half price of a new one and still cheaper than used ones online. It had a few small issues so I took it to the tech in the back. He tightened the input jack and opened it up to check a pot I thought was shaky. He also tested the batteries as it is an active pick up instrument. The thing was quickly up to both our standards in no time. Sold. A nice bonus was when I went to pay I found it came with a hard shell case at no extra cost, score. All in all a very pleasant shopping experience and I came away satisfied with a great value. I would not have found the great deal on this bass had I not actually gone to the store. Shopping online for instruments is risky even if you know what you want. Nothing compares to feeling it in your hands and really exploring the nuances of the machine. I've seen some reviews on here where they rip on the staff for being inexperienced. Although I am certain no one is a more experienced musician than the people writing those reviews, I found the guys at GC to know enough to to get any novice pointed to the right purchase for their needs, and there is always someone in the store with a lot of experience if you ask around a bit. Someone in there can answer your questions no matter what your level of experience. If they can't you should probably ask your roadies or the guitar company who sponsors you for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTLDR: buy on Reverb from a reputable shop instead of GC. Not only you are supporting small businesses, you will likely get a better guitar and better experience. If you have to go to a chain store, Sam Ash in Buffalo Grove is better in every way. Unfortunately GC has lost me as a customer for good. Received 2 guitars that were damaged/not as described condition purchased online from them recently. Every time I drove 20 miles to the store to return them to avoid any further damage on the return shipping back. Instead receiving a proper apology, the store manager talked to me in a rude and condescending voice as if Iām stealing from them. He complained that "pretty much every order you made are returns and I can't refund the original shipping charge". In the past six month alone, I have placed a few dozens of order at GC, and those two returns account for a fraction of the total money I have spent. I also have photo proof that the guitars were in that condition right out of the box. I can tolerate their employees and computers being slow and inexperienced and having to wait half an hour to get a return processed. However, this kind of attitude to your loyal customers, or any customer, is completely unacceptable. Maybe the store manager has no incentive to be nice to me because he figured most of my orders were made online and therefore the store is unlikely to make any commissions from my future purchases? At the same time, there is a beginner guitarist playing āEnter Sandmanā very loudly in the store for half an hour, and all the store employees leave him alone. Maybe the store just doesnāt welcome guitarists who actually know about gear. Regardless, there are many, many music stores out there that take much better care of their instruments and customers. The new or used guitars I received from GC were almost never set up, and sometimes shipped and packed improperly. The condition listed on their website are often vague with the blurry photos. Lucky for me they have mostly arrived okay in the past. I guess when accidents actually do happen, this is the treatment you...
