On my way from Michigan to Minnesota, I found myself having a wild craving for sushi. Luckily for me, I found Nikko Sushi right off the highway. As I walked in the staff was extremely welcoming and the place seemed clean. I like when you walk into a restaurant and the staff is walking with a pep in their step, but is also professional, which they delivered. To my surprise, every meal comes with a miso soup and a bowl of strawberry ice cream with whipped cream, a touch that is appreciated and unexpected. I’ve seen a lot of comments on the pricing. It is somewhat high, but keep in mind you get extra with your meal. The rolls I had were both good, they also gave me complimentary gyoza. I have not had as quick and nice of service from any other sushi restaurant. Here are the reasons I’m giving it a 4 instead of a 5; the sweet potato roll did not come with any eel sauce, which would’ve been totally dry if I didn’t ask for some. The actually slices of fish seemed to be frozen at one point and may have been thawed different than I normally have had. The final con is that they do not use a POS system so there is a lot of yelling orders between staff across the restaurant that sort of brings down the ambience. If I find myself on this route again, I’ll make sure to stop by.
I was pleasantly surprised however to find cuts from the salmon belly in my roll (the best cut...
Read moreThis is the saddest and hardest bad review I've had to write. I have been coming to NIKKO SUSHI for almost 10 years. I've brought several friends and family members and it used to be the best local sushi place.
I'm beyond disappointed to announce that absolutely everything has changed and I not only wasted my time, but also my money, going to NIKKO last night.
I placed an order for pick up and was told it was a 10 minute wait. I told the lady I would be waiting outside because I did not want to be in her or the staff's way. After waiting outside for 30 minutes, I went inside and told the lady I was checking in and I hope she didn't forgot about me... she did.
It took 45 minutes for ONE sushi roll to be ready. I came inside and was sitting for 10 minutes and watched the guy get told by the women "You still haven't started her roll? Start it now."
The prices have almost tripled at NIKKO since 2018. The portions are smaller and the customer service which was never amazing, but definitely satisfactory has gone down to appalling.
To see this restaurant go from a hidden gem to a disaster has been depressing.
Sincerely, a long time customer that will now never...
Read moreWent there for the first time in about 8 months and we always enjoyed our experience and would have given them 5 stars, but this time it was much different. We asked our waitress if there was new ownership which seemed obvious by all the changes and she indicated there was. They no longer serve a salad to start, the portions on some of the items were smaller, the red bean ice cream at the end always came with whipped cream and a cherry as well as a banana with a little swirl of chocolate syrup but this time it didn't. The presentation was without umbrellas or any type of decorations, it was very simple, the biggest disappointment though was our absolute favorite dish( Nikko Tortillas) tasted like flour and was not anywhere near as good as it had been. The food was still good but not like it used to be and the whole experience was off yet the prices were the same if not more. The small things are what made this place one of our favorites, hopefully the new owners will embrace what they used to do so well and incorporate them back into the restaurant, we would love to be able to give them 5...
