My family and I go to Door County every summer for vacation--it's my favorite place in the world and I have so many positive memories there. My husband and I booked an early August stay for us and our two kids, since we were having a little elopement ceremony (Covid canceled our regular wedding several years prior). When we checked in, we were in love! I love the suite layout, the books, the hot tub, and the fun amenities like the afternoon snack time. I was very hopeful that EHI would become our annual spot to stay.
That changed on August 7 when we were pulling up to Whitefish Dunes Park for our wedding ceremony. I received an urgent call from EHI, the receptionist telling us that we were supposed to have checked out that day and yet we were still there. I was confused, because we had booked to check out August 8. We checked our email and verified that we were booked through August 8, which I told her. She insisted that someone had called in on Thursday (our checkin day) to say that we were checking out early, and that we needed to get our stuff out because someone else was checking into the room. I told her that no one had called and said that--I was present when my husband called on Thursday to let them know that we would be arriving late at night, so we wouldn't be in time for desk checkin. At no point did he say anything about leaving early (because who would check out on their wedding day?). I told her this and she told me that we needed to work something out because someone else was checking in, and we were supposed to have checked out. At this point I'm in a full-blown panic and we're late for our own wedding because she is insisting we need to be there (40 minutes away) to leave because of someone else arriving--even though it was their error that led to the overlap. My husband took over the call and she said they would call back and let us know what happened.
We received a voicemail from I believe a manager, telling us that they had found a way for us to "add the extra day" we wanted and billed the card on file. No apology or anything, not to mention the fact that we did not want an extra day. We just wanted the days we had booked and to not be made to feel like we were going to be kicked out of our hotel on our wedding day. My husband called back multiple times to figure out if we owed money (since we booked third party and did not even have a card on file) and to try to figure out what happened. No one ever called back. It added so much stress to my wedding day and left a very sour taste in my mouth. Although I loved the property and was hoping to make it an annual stop, the lack of accountability and organization makes that...
Read moreWe stayed at Eagle Harbor Inn during the off-season when there was snow on the ground, so I can't really speak to the summer amenities. But our stay was pretty wonderful. We stayed in Hollyhock House and enjoyed the full kitchen, fireplace, and jacuzzi tub. Rather pricey, but for a multi-level suite with a kitchen, fireplace, and jacuzzi, you get what you pay for. I loved having full-size towels in so many locations throughout the suite. It made me feel like I was living in the lap of luxury! 𤣠This time of year, the resort was very quiet. We could not hear any noise from our other neighbors in the building despite sharing a wall.
There were a few very minor things that I found a bit disappointing, so I'll leave my suggestions:
-Some kind of bath bomb or essential oils for the jacuzzi tub; they do not allow candles and the bath grains they sell do not really have a smell. Something to elevate that tub experience would have made it feel a lot more luxurious. -Some decor in the suite. Literally any decor. The furniture fit the theme. But everything was very blah. No art on the walls. The stairway especially felt very institutional and dark. People expect boutique experiences like this to be unique, and some funky art, wallpaper, or paint colors (literally any paint colors at all) could really elevate that experience. -Better cookware. All we had to cook in was a scratched Teflon frying pan, which anyone who reads the news should now know is no longer food-safe and releases cancer-causing PFAs into your food. Thankfully we had brought our own small cast iron pan. The sole knife in the suite was too dull to cut anything with, so we went to Walmart and bought a 98 cent knife, which we left in the suite for the next guests.
Note that I would not even mention these things except for the fact that the Inn bills itself as a luxury, boutique-style resort, and seems to hold itself to very high standards. These would be a few easy, inexpensive ways to improve the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had a little accident when we arrived. The receptionist handled it beautifully and immediately remedied the problem. The room was incredibly clean and cozy. The breakfast, which they call continental, was extremely good. Hard boiled eggs, goat cheese, blue cheese, fresh salmon, fresh shredded turkey breast, hot bread, warm honey croissants baked to perfection... Overall a great experience. Would go again. Only complaint was that for me with my back pain, the bed was uncomfortable... It has no topper, which is normal for inns and resorts in this area. It would have helped to have a little extra padding to sink into. The mattress was a spring type and quite flat. I am not docking a star for the bed as it is a subjective thing and everything else was very good. The staff there was incredibly friendly, too. I only stayed one night so I cannot comment on the housekeeping but I would be very surprised if it wasn't impeccable. The room I stayed in was an inn room (shared with the front desk and about 5 other rooms). There is a kitchen near reception that can be used communally to have access to a microwave and industrial fridge and freezer. The inn rooms do not have these or a fire place like the separate suites. However, the breakfast is included free with the inn room and not with the suites as that is a room service in the suites. Inn rooms do have private bathrooms, with a shower and sink. No tub. Very cozy! Our TV didn't work for some reason but we didn't visit to watch TV, it was just nice to enjoy a quiet comfortable setting. So we didn't try that hard to get the tv working. Wifi was provided and worked well. It was a password protected connection (I am not sure if it was wep or wpa encrypted so I used a...
