Door County, WIs., is a very popular destination and now that I've visited, I can see why. It's lovely! Lots of charming little towns, rolling hills and fields, and a great big Lake Michigan and bay surrounding the peninsula that forms it. ||We stayed at Ephraim Shores Resort, and it had everything we could have wanted, except maybe an elevator (only two levels; to get an elevator, you need three). Our room had a balcony but was on the parking lot side, so no lake view, but at least the lot was surrounded by trees. The balcony would be a nice place to sit back and take in the air on a temperate evening. The room itself was quite large and featured two big, comfy recliners, perfect for TV viewing. Strangely, the chairs faced =away= from the TV, but we did a little furniture moving and got our front-row view. Nice bed, plentiful outlets and charging stations, but a very small table and chairs that were right under the TV. ||A good feature is the restaurant right in the hotel building. Easy to go down for breakfast or stay in for dinner. An added plus: A great view of the lake! And the food was very good, too, especially the cherry pie (a Door County must-try). It was the kind of restaurant you didn't go to just because it was in the hotel, but a destination restaurant for people who wanted a nice breakfast, lunch or dinner out. The pool and hot tub areas were sizable, immaculate and even had a little personality, unlike many pools at hotels of this size. ||Size was one of the things we liked: It's not too big. We had nice chats with the desk personnel and the restaurant personnel (who seemed to know everyone who came in!) The hotel has a good-sized parking lot which, at the very end of the season, had plenty of spaces. ||Location, location, location was great: Ephraim is right in the center of the peninsula and an easy jumping-off spot for anything you might want to do. The hotel is just across the road from the bay and has its own private "beach," with chairs and umbrellas for guests to use. It's the perfect place to watch a sunset unfold. (If you want golf or tennis, keep looking.)||If shiny, glossy and chic is what you want, this might not be for you. But I would stay there again, no question. It's a throwback to the days when people took family driving vacations and sought a mom-and-pop kind of place, with a restaurant that serves cherry pie,...
Read moreWe went up to "the Door" for a quick weekend trip and just needed a room for one night, hopefully at a reasonable rate. Found this highly rated place online and saw they had one room left, with no multiple night minimum(as is the case with many of the hotels in DC, especially in peak season). Called them directly and confirmed the one room was in fact available, for $168($191 after taxes and fees) which for Door county, is fairly reasonable. We arrived 90 mins. earlier than the stated check-in time of 3:30, and as it turned out, our room was ready so we were able to drop off our bags and cooler, freshen up, and then hit the town for a while before dinner. The room was on the first floor in the back, so no view or anything, but the cool thing was we were able to park directly outside of our room(#120), which had it's own door(!), to the parking lot which made it super convenient to unload said bags and cooler! The room was clean, and well-equipped with a clothes iron and board which for some reason is getting scarce these days. Bathroom was clean and functional, and the bed was clean and comfortable. We did enjoy the private beach/patio area across the street before, and after our dinner(Door County Underground, be sure to check it out!), which was very nice. Amazing how peaceful Ephraim gets after the sun goes down compared to Sister Bay with it's vibrant bar/party scene a few miles up the road.|In any case, no complaints with this establishment, staff were friendly and pleasant, place was clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.|We highly recommend Ephraim...
Read moreFirst time to Door County and I’m so glad we picked here to stay. Ephraim is right in the middle of all the quaint areas of Door County. This hotel/resort was perfect for us. Such a great location. Check in was quick and the staff was so so friendly. Our room was perfect! We stayed on the 2nd floor in a King room with a small kitchenette and a large sitting area. Our small balcony looked straight at the water. Enjoyed drinking coffee out there every morning. The room was large and super clean. The bed was comfortable and the linens were too. There is an indoor pool and a playground if you have small children. There is also a restaurant on site. Across the street is a reserved area for watching the sunsets. There are loungers and Adirondack chairs for relaxing in. Such a great place to watch the sun go down! We had a wonderful 5 days staying here and can’t wait to come back. Thank you, Ephraim Shores for your wonderful hospitality!!...
