Steer away if you are not a fish lover. Steer clear if you want to be treated as a valued customer. Avoid it if you want a real restaurant. I went there with my friends five years ago and the experience still haunts me today. Everything was staged and rushed. Yes they did have a performance on fish boiling in one of the most scenic spots in Wisconsin. But the fish boil at the performance was the only thing they were willing to serve you. There was no compromise if you wanted anything else. Smelling like fresh dirt scooped right out of the lake, the boiled fish was hardly a treat for everyone. They could use more spices to make it more appealing, but no you had to stand in a long line smelling it watching everyone eating the same thing wondering if you would be the lucky one having then-listed bbq ribs, until the reality struck you: you had no other choice. I was told by the “cafeteria lady” that I could order ribs I’d like so I didn’t get the fish (yes I skipped the main dish). I then asked the waiter if I could order it. He told me “no you can’t order it here. You should preorder it and we don’t take orders here.” Okay then at least they would take off the charge since I didn’t have fish, right? Wrong. He said “you should have got the fish. There’s no fish left now. So I can’t help you. But the dinner is a fixed price” before leaving a shocked group behind wondering if we were in a restaurant or a prison. My friends started to apologize, saying they should have done more research before coming. The restaurant, entitled to its crowd and appraises, however, never said one word. I, stayed hungry for the night, having to pay $30 for several pieces of potatoes and a piece of pie. No comprises, no compensations, no courtesy, no apologies, no nothing. That urges me to post this five years after the unforgetable night. We deserve better...
Read moreYou have heard of the rest , THIS IS THE BEST FISH BOIL IN DOOR COUNTY, the OLD POST OFFICE !!!! A half hour outside before your reservation, It starts out with the Boilmaster "Torch", giving you the history of Door County and its first settlers in the 1800's , then Torch goes on to tell you how the Fish Boils first got started . He then proceeds to tell you how they get the Whitefish and how he prepares them for the boil. He then shows you the fish fillets, and explains step by step how its done. The finally is when Torch tells you to get your phone cameras ready, and throws kerosene on the fire at the bottom of the Kettle . Flames and smoke shoot about 15+ feet in the air for a Kodak moment ! After this great show, Torch tells everyone to go enjoy their delicious fish dinner . YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS HIS PRE-DINNER PRESENTATION !!!! Everyone now seats down at their reserved table , either outside, weather permitting, or inside . Tammy and her great wait crew ,now go around and take drink orders at each table. Shortly there after the food comes out hot and yummy looking ! Read moreVery unprofessional. At first everything was going okay. There was a lot of people and not enough seatings to watch the fish boil. $28 is on the high end compared to other places. We been to other places and they were reasonably priced for a much better experiences. The fish was soggy which might have been the white fish. At other places it was not soggy. The cherry pie was not off putting with the crust they used. It was like somethinf graham cracker sort of crust rather then the old fashioed flour crust that most other places uses which is far by better. We were also given the wrong seats too when we arrived.
For $28 per person it was not worth it. They even charges $3 to put ice cream with the pie. They charge $3.50 for a can of pop. They automatically take out 18% tip which we did not agree to. There were no signage to show that is what they do which is required in order to do that. The manager was unreasonable and insisted that we give her a percent of what we would have tipped which is not up to her. The servant said that she is not forcing a tip but she quickly took our card from the table without asking. They gave us such a problem that it was not okay. We had to really stand our ground with the amount of trouble they were giving us.
I would go elsewhere where the experience is far better and the...
