lovely stay and a good price -
I usually booked my hotels 3 months ahead, so I was worried since this trip was decided spontaneously, and I had to book it 2 weeks before our trip. I looked everywhere and searched all my options, but most places were already booked given it was Labor Day weekend. I randomly searched all over the place on Google Maps and found this place.
All the cabins next to the river were already taken, but we just needed a place to rest and didn’t care much about it. I did take a walk along the river, and I didn’t think it was worth the price difference unless you liked to sit outside and look at the views. The price of this place was even lower than the ones I had found previously (around $180 a night after tax and fees for cabin #7). The road wasn’t fully paved, but it was fine to drive on. It could be a bit narrow at some points. The cabins were quite remote, but there was another facility next to them, so it wasn’t like a cabin in the woods with nothing else around, as that could be scary for some. Basically, you got enough peace and quiet without being too far away from civilization. I even saw two hikers walking past my cabin and said hi.
We arrived around 7 pm, and I found my name on a sheet of paper to guide me to my cabin. I already knew where it was, but it was reassuring. The cabin was lovely and full of bear-themed décor. The bed was a bit small, mostly because I’m used to a king-sized bed, but I still slept well. There are everything you need in the kitchen: kitchen towels, napkins, etc. There are 3 bar soaps for us, but there is no shampoo, conditioner, or hair dryer. We didn't wash our hair that night so it was fine, or else you might want to bring your own as they don't provide it.
We went to bed super early as there wasn’t much to do. The cabin was sort of hot so we turned the fan to the highest. It was too loud and I couldn't sleep well, so we turned it down. However it became too hot in the middle of the night so my husband couldn't sleep. I think it will be better to stay here in the winter and stay cozy when the temperature in the cabin is just right.
I woke up around 1 am and saw a sky full of stars. It was quite chilly, but the view was amazing. It was a good time since there was a crescent moon that didn’t interfere much. The water pressure was good, the water was hot enough for my shower, and the Wi-Fi was fine for us as well.
After we checked out, I sent them an email about leaving the keys in the cabin. They told me my card had been declined, so I told them I’d call when I had better reception since I was in the mountains. They kindly told me to call tomorrow and just enjoy the mountains for the day. So I did, and I felt I couldn’t have asked for a better...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed here for the night on our way through the area. It was very pleasant and quaint. We stayed in cabin 3. These cabins are fairly close to others and just off the main road, yet they somehow managed to feel secluded and relaxing. We especially enjoyed sitting on the porch while we looked at the stars. Then again in the morning as we shared our breakfast together. The cabin came fully stocked with dishes and silverware as well as all the basic linens and towels. It is equipped with a small heater in the loving room as well as small wall heaters in the two bedrooms. Despite the cool evening air, we didnt need any of them. In fact, we used the fan to cool us down even more. It wasnt uncomfortably warm, just felt nice with a breeze. The staff at the front office was very kind. I spent a few minutes reminiscing with her about my time in the area some years ago and she spoke of recent events that would impact our travels and things to see. She was very kind and courteous. All in all, I would stay here 100 times again. In fact, I think I will come back with our three kids in a little larger cabin to enjoy the area again. The only complaint I have is the entrance to the site. The signs are right over the entrance roads and you cant see them until you are nearly on top of them. The first time we drove to the site I nearly missed it and had to hit the brakes pretty hard. Even doing the speed limit it's a sharp turn in as the entrance roads are located along a curve of the main road. Still, dont let that deter you. Nor any negative reviews. This...
