Lovely hotel. Whatever cleaning products or air freshener they're using here, thumbs up. It smells fancy. Pretty lobby with shiny floors, interesting light fixture, and artwork. The plantings/landscaping around the property are gorgeous. Shades of purple and pink, mostly, very well coordinated and healthy looking. Really attractive. I had a King Bed room, and it was spacious and well appointed. It had a dresser, desk with chair, an additional side chair, and an arm chair with ottoman. Personally, I can't stand it when a hotel room only gives you the seating option of sitting on a bed. I loved having an arm chair and the ottoman was a huge bonus. My only complaints about the room was that the bed skirt had an ugly tear in it, looked shabby. Honestly all hotels should just do away with bed skirts altogether. Go for platform beds and eliminate the chances for wear and tear on fabrics. My second complaint is that there were no towel bars, rings or hooks near the sink for hand towels. Rooms are usually good about providing hooks for bath towels or clothes, and this room is no different. There were two wall hooks and one on the door. But...nowhere near the sink to hang a hand towel. Minor inconveniences. I was also disappointed that the hot tub was not available for use during my stay. That's my #1 want when I choose a hotel. I had debated on the Radisson in the area but their hot tub was also unavailable at this time. I still chose the Hilton because hot tub or not, it's still the most luxurious option in Fairlawn. I enjoyed dinner at the hotel restaurant on my first night. My server, Dana, was so friendly and pleasant. I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience. I ordered the crab cake appetizer. It came with a surprising amount of salad and corn which was off putting at first, but the crab cake was large and very tasty. The remoulade sauce was outstanding, and I ended up taking the other half of crab cake and the salad back to my room and eating it cold the next day and it was still delicious. I chose the shrimp and grits as my main course and it was tasty. It's one of my favorite dishes, and I like seeing how different restaurants interpret it. I think this version could use a little more salt, maybe some ham or other salty/savory addition to give it a bit more oomph. I ended up salting it a bit after trying a few bites. For dessert I chose the carrot cake. It was like no other slice of carrot cake I'd ever had. It was so moist and dense, it more resembled a carrot cake, brownie hybrid. Very, very sweet. I ate a few bites and saved the rest for another day. I'm just unaccustomed to eating very sweet things, I prefer savory foods. The carrot cake is delicious and if you like that and have a sweet tooth, you will love it. Overall, I would say this is probably the best hotel option in the Fairlawn area and I highly recommend.

We stayed this past weekend for a family reunion. The room was nice…we had a king suite. The outdoor amenities and the response of management, housekeeping and maintenance leaves a lot to be desired. We sat by the pool Friday evening and hung out. The kids swam both in the outdoor pool and indoor pool. The outdoor pool looked cloudy and we attributed that to the cement color and didn’t think anything of it. We filled one of the garbage cans by us pretty full and left an empty pizza box there as well from food we ordered. We returned Saturday to hang by the pool for the day (easily 40-50 people sitting there all day hanging out, swimming, snacking and having drinks). The garbage cans were not empty from the night before and you could tell the pool had not been cleaned (many bugs and hair floating and much cloudier). The kids and adults still went in as it was 90 degrees…this was all starting around 10:30am. Beginning at noon…hotel staff were notified that the trash cans were over now over flowing and that the pool was dirty and the filter did not appear to be working (by my husband, sister in law and several cousins). They were again notified around 1:50-2:00. Finally at 3:15pm my brother in law went and asked for garbage bags (the front desk never asked why)…and he, my son and nephew had to empty two trash cans themselves!! At 4:30pm another hotel guest went and got a hotel manager to come look at the pool to show him how dirty the pool was. At this time is started to storm so everyone got out and sat under the patio. At 4:48pm, two maintenance guys placed paper signs on all doors stating “Outdoor pool Out of order” and placed some chemicals in the pool. Not once did anyone ever come addressed the issue with us, let us know what was going on, look at the pool, test chemical levels or check the filtration system. We sat outside until 12:30am hanging out…and never saw a hotel manager or staff. At around 5:00pm two ladies did come to empty the garbage…that was already emptied. Not sure what caused the pool to be “out of order” but it was not addresses with the 40-50 guests there that had just been in it for the last two days??? I believe someone should have at least come and spoken to us…at this point I’m not certain what the issue is and what if someone…especially one of the kids gets sick? I feel we should be owed some what of a refund. Photos attached to see…of the guys taking the garbage, of us in the pool, and then the sign showing the pool is out of order. I’d love to hear from someone from the hotel.

We booked our stay for 2 nights for a family emergency in which this would be our very first time visiting Akron, Ohio. From the time of check in I should have observed the red flags. We arrived for checking in and the clerk did not offer the most famous cookies in the entire world which is also a signature for “Doubletree Hilton” standards. With three small children in tow I brushed it off and thought maybe they had run out. No big deal. We entered into our suite expecting to relax, NO WAY JOSE, the AC unit was running making a loud knocking noise non stop all night with no way to shut it off. (Video included yes we reported this to front desk and were told Maintenance would be available the following morning). Waking up you would expect to just hope in the shower to get your day started, NO SIR, shower BROKEN, problem number 2 on its way to the attention of the front desk, (did we remind you that maintenance would be available later?) NOT. VERY. HAPPY. After a very mediocre bird bath, I grab the remote to the television to entertain the kiddos for a few minutes, ARE YOU SERIOUS!? Television ALSO non functioning. At this point I am beyond disappointed and upset, had it not been for the front desk on call manager (I believe her name was Lauren) I would have stood in front of the doors with a sign saying “RECONSIDER DO NOT STAY HERE!” YES we requested to be move (and of course they were sold out leaving us stuck in the out of service room for rent) After checking out, I stopped by the front desk to confirm if anything could be done for the extremely uncomfortable inconvenience and I received a mere 20% discount for a $800 2/night stay. DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT! I would rather rent a board room at a homeless shelter if I ever visit Akron again and from this visit that will NOT be anytime soon! I did NOT feel like a Diamond Hilton Member at this point!

Thoughtful Service and Pet-Friendly Perks at DoubleTree Akron

We recently stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Akron, OH, and while there were a couple of bumps, the overall experience was positive and worth sharing.

Check-In Experience We arrived shortly after 4 PM, which is the standard check-in time, but unfortunately, our room wasn’t ready. There was a wedding taking place at the hotel, which may have contributed to the delay. We waited about 30 minutes in the lobby. The front desk staff, especially the woman who checked us in, was very kind and apologetic, which we appreciated.

Room & Renovation Our room was part of the older section of the hotel, as renovations are currently underway. It wasn’t modern, but it was clean, quiet, and comfortable enough for our needs.

Above-and-Beyond Service A special thank-you goes out to Shelly, who truly made our morning. We were traveling with our dog and our son, and after a hectic start to the day, our anxious pup made it hard for us to sit down for the buffet breakfast. Shelly noticed our situation and went out of her way to help. She packed to-go containers with breakfast items, included a bag for easy carrying, added fresh fruit, and even tossed in a couple of bottled juices. Her kindness, initiative, and genuine care stood out to us. We’ve stayed in Hilton properties around the world, and this kind of personalized service is rare and deeply appreciated.

Dining & Amenities The Insight Restaurant was a convenient and tasty option. I ordered a cup of clam chowder for takeout—it was a generous portion and delicious! Additional highlights included: • Ample parking • Grassy areas and walkable paths—great for dogs • Large indoor and outdoor pools • The signature warm cookies • Friendly and welcoming staff all around

Final Thoughts Despite the minor hiccup at check-in, our stay was relaxing and enjoyable. Traveling across the country with a child and a pet can be overwhelming, but team members like Shelly made a big difference. Thank you for the hospitality—we’d definitely consider...
