I regret having to post what a disappointment our stay at Alpen Way was for us. Before making our reservation, I spoke with the manager at the facility and was assured that they allowed dogs with a $50.00 non refundable fee. I was also told that they had lovely grounds for us to enjoy. We really looked forward to our time there. We arrived early and when told that there would not be any early check in decided to sit in the chairs on the lawn. Our dog is a small well behaved Havanese that mostly sits in my lap, does not bark and does not disturb anyone or anything. A woman immediately ran out at such an urgent pace that we thought something was wrong but instead she informed us that we could not sit where we were or anywhere on the grounds with the dog but a small strip along the river. This area was covered in bear poop. We decided to leave until check in at 4:00 pm but needed to use the restroom. When I went to the office and inquired, I was told that I could not use their facility and would have to go into town and find a public restroom. I think anyone would agree that being in my late 70’s, when duty calls, it is hard to drive somewhere else and look for a restroom but I did so. When we can back at 4:00 for check in, I had just gotten out of the car with our dog when she came running over again reminding us that the dog was not allowed on any of the grass. I assured her that she had just gone before arrival and that we were just trying to walk to the room. She then followed us in and went over every aspect of the rules in their guest book. We are mature, intelligent and educated people who have traveled extensively in and out of the US for many years and felt as if we were treated like kindergartners. We thanked her kindly but were already sorry to be there. She kept repeating that theirs was a family business. Though I can appreciate that, I also think the operative word in that sentence is “business” and the utmost consideration should be that customers be made to feel welcome and comfortable. We were asked if we would like to extend our stay and we kindly declined. There are several other places in the area at much lower rates, have complimentary breakfast and we and our dog would be made to feel welcome. We left by 8:30 the next morning although checkout was not until 11:00. We cannot recommend these lodgings to anyone and will...
Read moreLast month my 15-year-old daughter and I spent four nights in the Bountiful Cabin at the Alpen Way Chalet Inn and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Jeff and Rebecca, the new owners, had just taken over the place a couple weeks before but everything seemed ready to go and they went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
Since I’m nursing a broken leg I especially appreciated that the cabin was easily accessible. There was just one short step up to the front porch and another into the cabin, which I had no problem negotiating on crutches. (The sleeping loft was of course not accessible to me but that’s part of why my daughter enjoyed it so much!).
The breakfast baskets were great, especially the sour cream cinnamon coffee cake that Rebecca made on the last day! Since the cabin also has a full, well-stocked kitchen we made dinner there each night to keep the meal costs down and so we could have a relaxing evening at the cabin. A grill was available for use and the back patio was a fantastic place to enjoy a meal, with a picturesque granite outcrop right behind the patio which made it feel very secluded.
The road in front of the property (County Road 73) was busier than I expected but the resort is set back a ways from the road and fairly well shielded by trees. A small creek runs through the front of the premises and access to the mountain town of Evergreen is very handy.
I plan on making a return visit when my leg heals so I can enjoy the nearby hiking and other outdoor activities (several county open space parks are located within a short drive and access to Arapaho National Forest is just a few miles away). And based on my recommendations and photos I have two coworkers who have already expressed interest in celebrating their anniversaries at Alpen...
Read moreTommy and Lisa have the perfect Colorado getaway that is conveniently located and well appointed.
I was organizing a reunion long weekend stay for seven families, and Lisa was gracious on the phone from the early inquiry stages, helpfully answering all my questions and of all the lodges I called. She made me feel like I was truly talking to someone who cared about my group’s experience and was flexible with our booking.
We booked almost all the available cottages and having visited each one, can confidently say that you can find a cottage that is perfect for your needs.
For the couples looking for a romantic getaway, stay at Enchanted with the high vaulted ceiling, or Gracious with the jetted bath tub.
For families with children, there's Jubilee with a large living area space, and Bountiful with a ladder that leads to a lofted space - perfect for "bedtime sleepover dance parties".
There’s wonderful common areas - fireplace to gather around, hot tub to enjoy the chilly evening, pergola to eat communally, and a large grass area for children and pets to play. Not to mention the fantastic landscaping and the chickens with great names!
Tommy and Lisa are always just a phone call away, each room smells clean when you enter, and do read the binder in each room! There’s fantastic information about the lodge, and importantly, pages of take out options, some of which are just 3 mins drive away.
I would be delighted to stay at Alpen Way again anytime, and the other families in my group...
