I called in advance of arrival to inquire about the amount of the hold for incidentals. I was told it would be a percentage of my overall charges, but would fall between $20 and $50 per night. I requested the exact amount, and, after reviewing my reservation, the clerk told me the incidental hold would be $20 per night. At check-in, I was told the hold was $50 per night ($200 total). I presented my debit card and followed the prompts on the card reader. I received a confirmation that the hold was approved and I could remove my card.
There were several others behind me waiting to check in. The clerk told me that my transaction did not go through and I needed to re-insert my card. I pulled up the transaction history from my bank account and showed her that the transaction did go through. She said she would not be able to check me in because the transaction did not appear as approved on her end. Another clerk told her to take my card and type in the number. I refused to give them my card and showed the second clerk the transaction history proving that the transaction had been approved. After about 20 minutes of back and forth, I was issued keys.
My colleague checked in after me and had the same issue. They discovered that the problem was with the card reader; however, I did not receive an apology from either clerk, after being humiliated in front of my co-workers.
When I got to the room, I found hair inside the shower and the doors had dried, hard water stains all over. I used my own supplies to clean the entire bathroom.
The thermostat in the room I'm assigned is broken. Not only does it sound like a Mack truck running across railroad tracks at 60 miles an hour when it powers on and off, but the unit blows warm air for a few minutes, and then starts blowing cold (really cold) air for a longer period of time. We're in Maine! I currently have it set to 82 degrees and I'm freezing from the cold air! I woke up today with a sore throat from the combination of small bursts of warm air followed by long bursts of cold air.
Speaking of trains, there is a train that runs directly behind the property and usually makes it way through town between 1 - 2 am. Adding to that, I am next to a room labeled the mechanical room, so each morning around 4 am, the boiler(s) play me a beat that sounds like the base line from an Aerosmith song.
The mattress is as hard as a rock, and the pillows are so soft that I've had to use my airline neck pillow for support every night. I've been here since Monday and I have probably gotten about 12 hours of sleep in total. I am exhausted!
I cannot wait to go home, and, God willing, I won't have to stay at this hotel during...

If you value a quiet room with the lights off to get a good nightâs rest, this is NOT the hotel for you.
My wife and I have stayed at many hotels in our lifetime. From ecomony to luxury and everything in between. We needed a very basic room, simple sleep in a decent room after a day of the fall festival in Freeport. The room has the LOUDEST air unit of any room we have ever stayed at ever. Period. The LOUDEST. We stayed at room 223 on oct 5th 2024.
Again, hands down the loudest air uint ever. To set temp you cant turn it off. Not only that, the LED light on the thermostat that reads the temperature is the BRIGHTEST LED you can imagine. It lights up the entire room when the lights are out along with at least 5 other LEDs from the TV and other sources. You can drape clothes over the other sources but if you dont have duct tape for the thermostat LED, youâre screwed. Its obnoxiously bright.
Trying to understand why any normal human would ever want to return to this hotel is like trying to understand quantum physics. Itâs pointless.
We will never come back. I encourage anyone considering spending the night here who values sleep to have a conversation with management about the sound and light levels in their rooms.
We started to go to bed at 8:30pm the noise was so bad i went down to get earplugs and still didnât get to sleep until past 1am. I actually contemplated walking out and speeding the night our car.
If youâre a fan of a good night sleep i canât imagine why youâd ever want to come to this hotel. I only hope this review helps others because if I only knew this was going to be the case we would have never stayed here and saved our money, gone somewhere else and had a good...
Read moreI was in Maine visiting my cousin for her birthday and had booked this hotel for us. When I went to check in, the guy at the desk (donât remember his name...he had glasses) said they have a minimum check in age of 21. I am 20 but my cousin I was visiting was turning 21 the next day. So I explained this to him and then the manager Dave came out and continued to aggressively say âthe minimum check in age is 21...you need someone here who is 21.â I asked if we could come back at midnight to check in (when my cousin would officially be 21) or cancel it if we needed to. They said yes, so I decided to cancel. After discussing it with my cousin we decided to call the hotel and see if we could get our reservation back (because we needed somewhere to sleep). However when I called back the guy who I originally spoke to at the desk was incredibly rude. Anytime I asked him something he would sigh, not speak for 30 seconds and continue to repeat âthe manager already made up his mindâ and âif you come back at 2am, 3am, or 4am the manager Dave will be here and he will recognize you.â I pointed out that she would be 21 (the minimum check in age) after midnight so I wasnât sure why that wouldnât be okay. He continued to sigh as if we were bothering him/wasting his time and repeating the same thing in a snotty tone. I am not typically one to write reviews but I have experience in the hospitality business and this was not okay. Not only was the desk representative rude and short with us, I could see where he got it from as the manager Dave came across exactly like that as well. Luckily a holiday inn let us check in and I was so glad they got our business instead of...
