Just received a lunch time phone call from Peggy in Customer Service regarding my LL Bean Trail shoes which I had returned due to a breakage in the leather above the sole? She insinuated that this might have occurred if I had caught something sharp which would have made this cut. When I pointed out that it was starting to happen in the same place on the other shoe she then started going on about the shoes were worn out and she couldnāt do anything other than 20% discount. I donāt believe nor do I try buy products that are worn out within a few years, perhaps their products are not as durable and well made as previously.
I felt she was very condescending considering I have been a LL Bean customer for over 50 years, have closets of their clothes and footwear, have purchased plenty including for family members and relatives. She was more than willing to say no to a long time loyal customer. I can find other merchants, Amazon, Costco and hunting stores perhaps easier than LL Bean can find new long term customers.
As I recall I believe LL Bean had record profits recently. Perhaps it was on the backs of their loyal customers as they (she) was willing to offend me and have me leave as their long time customer over a $100 pair of trail shoes.
Your unhappy long term customer!
The owner now claims excessive wear and tear. Oh please! Iām in my late 60ās and for the most part still pick up my feet when I walk. Iām afraid I believe your products are not as well made and not have the quality they used to be, just as your warranties have become basically watered down with loopholes and out against their own customers. Do people really believe that footwear shouldnāt last more than a year or two for most adults? Iām old enough to remember when Beanās warranties meant something.
I have found a very similar trail shoe on Cabelas for $20 less than LL Bean, $40 if I get their no fee credit card. Iāll see if their quality and longevity is better than what your offering your customers these days.
Thank you Peggy for getting me a 50 year customer of LL Bean to try Cabelas. These are my new Columbia waterproof trail shoes very similar to Beanās with the difference being the cost. I got these Columbia shoes for over $45 dollars less than LL Bean shoes with free shipping, warranty and more choice in colors. I remember when the Bean warranty meant something however not so much these days. Thereās an old retail expression, that customers vote with their feet! Thanks again Peggy for showing...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreLLBean has such a variety! Home goods, canvas bags, clothing, footwear, pet accessories, outdoor sporting goods, gourmet food goodies, books, childrenās items, and more. Their canvas boat and tote bags are awesome! Durable and rigid so they donāt flip over like the flimsy reusable bags do. The LLBean flip flops are the ONLY flip flops I have ever found to be comfortable (and so many cute options on them as well!). Their corduroy pants are well made and nice. The Pima cotton tshirts are lovely! A really good selection of backpacks including some very small Osprey brand ones (great for half day hikes), and a nice variety of binoculars. They carry Old Town canoes, and I was really happy with the one I bought here years ago. I had a family member gift me a fly fishing rod from the sporting goods store here. It is very well made, lightweight and excellent quality. I have Tubbs snowshoes as well that I bought here about 15 years ago, and they have held up very nicely. The store is well organized, clean and the staff has always been very friendly. I have never once had a bad experience here at LLBean. Their customer service is second to none. You can not beat their one year guarantee on anything you buy from them. They make sure their customers are happy. Right now they are renovating their flagship store, but the large tent building they have set up is very nice. Their outlet store here (and one I visit occasionally in Ellsworth), have excellent sale prices. I have often found things for 50 percent off which is great! The flagship store is fun to visit around the holidays as they decorate with beautiful lights outside (love the lighted ornaments up in the trees!), and they do a big model train village display inside that is really neat. This place is well worth visiting. If you are just āpassing throughā Freeport and dont have a lot of time, if you could make just one stop I would totally...
